I know about fatigue, but not pain. Also, there’s a syndrome called restless leg syndrome, but I don’t know about pain...I am not an expert, so please talk to your doctor.
I used to eat a lot of meat and still couldn't get enough iron, but since I've been vegan my iron has gotten better somehow? Don't get it but I feel better.
If you've got iron issues, even if you're okay right now I strongly suggest getting away from veganism. It kickstarted hypothyroidism and anemia for so severe I almost had to be hospitalized. I've been eating meat again and feel better but my body is still recovering from the vitamin deficiency. It made me so, so sick. Please keep in close contact with your doctor and get your blood checked regularly. Veganism has only been popular for 9-10 years and pretty much everyone I've known that was vegan had to stop because of serious health issues like me or started having severe mental health issues. I really wanted it to work for me but 4 years of veganism really messed my body up
@@treehugger9070 yeah you haven't been in that long. I felt fantastic the first year I was vegan. I did. But as time goes on, your body will start to try to compensate for the nutrients you aren't eating anymore. Your HEME-iron, especially. You'll start feeling sluggish, depressed, almost like you're going to faint. Your skin will look dry, your hair will get brittle. Your nails too. You have a reserve in your body of certain nutrients from when you were a meat eater, and it will eventually depleat and this is when you will start to crash from this. It will happen, I wanted this diet to work for me so much but it made me ten times sicker than I ever thought imaginable. I've lost a lot of hair, I had serious anemia issues that were only made better by going back to meat. It's a nice thought to live plant based and be healthy and happy, in no way do I make this an attack - this is a warning from someone who did this for 4 years and it sucked the life out of me and I'm still recovering from it. You'll feel great and have fine blood work for a while but the thing about being veganism is, you have to supplement for the rest of your life this way. And you do not absorb supplement nutrients the same way you absorb nutrients in food. Not at all. Up until recently I had been relying on plant based iron supplements, because I still didn't want to go back to red meat. I had to, because anemia almost put me in the hospital. I almost had to quit my job because there were days I could barely get out of bed. Please do your research, and the moment you start feeling unhealthy please consider another path. I truly believe if I hadn't stopped eating this way it would have put me in the hospital or eventually killed me. It made me that weak and deficient. And I also did it "the right way" and ate as much unprocessed vegan food as possible. Still, it put me under...so much so that I feel bad for ever recommending it to anyone years ago
Indigo Girl Veganism isn’t a diet lol, it’s for animal rights and environment to me. I have depression from genetics in the first place, and my sleep apnea makes me sluggish.... so what difference could it make lol.. but if you do veganism right (which I am) you will get all the nutrients you need. I had my blood checked recently and my doctor is seeing increases in my deficiencies. And on top of the amount of spinach and mushrooms and greens and beans I eat. I do take iron pills just in case I need something to lean on. But again when I did eat meat my iron was a lot lower then what it is now ....
Servant of jesus .I was bleeding very heavily I came across a video and understood my heart problems hair loss and breathing problems were from blood loss I prayed to Jesus to heal me two months ago . now after 5 years of heavy peariods jesus healed me, one night I opened my Bible and read the story of the women who touched jesus 's robe to be healed and was healed.im just thankful to God today. Omg. Now I can prove to my parents that I have anemia. They are like yeah we understand science but how deficiency of iron can be related to ice! Thanks so much.
Yes,this is factual. Before I was diagnosed I would eat ice sunrise to sunset. We even got an ice machine.I got sick and ended up being hospitalized. My iron level was at 6.2
Erika L I get less car sick now, I’ve been taking iron supplements, and vitamins daily and seems to help me. And also I keep these tablets in my car in case I feel like throwing up it’s called nauzene and helps right away if you Nauseous
wow 10 . I have Thalassaemia (anemia) and it’s minor. But I get these really bad pains throughout my legs , what does it feel like to you? I get it in my arms as well. It’s so uncomfortable
@@lovelightandlei Oh yeah it's very uncomfortable, for a long I didn't even knew what was RLS or I have it😔.I feel like somebody is putting nails in my legs or scratching with something sharp. Well I have in legs only.🙂🙂
I have always had anemia, as young as 7 years old. Mine is severe, like hair loss, I even sometimes lose eyelashes and eyebrows. It’s scary when they come out in lumps. Feeling just exhausted for no reason and not being able to get out of bed. Yeah not pretty for most of us.
I had trouble falling and staying asleep, heart palpitations, hair loss, fatigue, headaches, very tired looking and was so much paler than my sisters. I got my ferritin and hb checked and they were low. Taking iron and finally feeling good again!
Have you hear about men eating Needles or a woman eating her own hair. Thats PICA its a medical disorder associated by FE defeciency. PICA is not something you laugh about.
Hey im using his videos to get a headstart on my heme class as well, i start class in two weeks. What are you in school for and what other tools did you use to help?
I have anemia same with my dad and his dad. I’ve passed out twice and have woken up with blood everywhere(from my nose) I always felt tired and dizzy too. Once I was jumping down the stairs straight after sitting down and then I remember crashing into my friend at the bottom but not falling. Now I just have to have iron tablets and lots of green veg so I’m getting better. OMG didn’t know the leg thing was related I thought I was just very figity Sorry for boring you with unneeded info T-T
Universe When this happened I was I think 11, I’ve always been agitated😅 and as the nosebleeds became more stronger and came more often I could always tell when they were going to happen.
What type of Iron pills do you take and what sort of green juices do you consume? How often? I have been diagnosed with anemia and it has been difficult to improve.
MC Mc I took blood test but i didn’t have anemia I had low iron but it’s almost the same and I feel terrible I’m just drinking salary juice it helps a little
Here because I’ve been heavily fatigued and so badly lethargic for the past few days, and it’s stopping me from completing my day to day tasks. Even writing out this comment is taking up all of my energy.
i think i have anemia and low blood pressure its really annoying i’m only 13 I thought I was healthy. I almost fainted in church for standing for so long it sucked because it was my great grandpas anniversary and I had to sit outside.
I'm sorry I really don't want to come as rude but the way you talk is getting on my nerves plus you make some mouth sounds here and there I just hated the whole video but still useful informations thank you
Medicosis Perfectionalis well it’s my own theory, when you go into cold water, then your heart rate will generally slow and constrict blood vessels with it. With iron-deficiency anemia, you usually get fatigue, which means your body can’t produce enough oxygen haemoglobin because of the low iron, obviously. So would eating ice cause all the blood to rush to the brain, therefore stimulating muscles? I don’t know, but the theory has always helped me cope with my anemia better, and the fact that I crave ice.
If you have anemia take vitamin pills the doctors give you. Eat green Vegetables 🥬. Don’t drink soda caffeine or pizza and pork or chips or junk food. Don’t drink wine or beer or anything like that. ❤️Hoped this helped ❤️
Thank you, I have been trying my best with this anemia problem of mine and it only got really Bad this year, I haven't had my period for half a year and I have been Passing out at least once every two months when I never been like that.
I used to have really bad craving for ice and kept popping ice cubes into my mouth several times in a day. It got so bad until I have to eat an ice cube everytime before I go to sleep. Then I went to have my blood tested, 8.9 IDA...once I started iron therapy the craving went away in about two weeks time. It still amazes me how the body works
I am anemic. I have been receiving iron infusions. I notice I'm feeling short of oxygen. I get to point I can't walk 1 to 200 feet. Then I'm out of breath. Any insight?
The ice makes me feel like I’m alive it wakes up my brain and I’m able to function it honestly tastes like the best thing I’ve ever had not to mention it soothes the tongue swelling 😩
Wow, this is an informative video. I am going to do blood work Tuesday finally to see if i am anemic. I was wondering your thoughts. I am 29, but since i was a teenager, I would have very bad cramping during my time of the month. I would sometimes black out due to how bad I felt during that time, and get extremely pale and vomit. Flash forward to my mid 20s and i finally decided to get on birth control strictly for making my periods better. Now that they are better, I don't feel horrible during that week like I used to. However, I do still feel constantly tired. I am very pale. I do have restless leg syndrome. Unlike many other who experience coldness, I seem to be more sensitive to heat and experience hot flashes often yet my hands can remain cold as I experience this sweating. For the last few years, I have felt my face looks "sickly". If I would ask others, they might not notice. But for me personally, I feel something is different. My skin seems aged and sallow at times despite the fact that I am a health person, take vitamins, and my family doesn't age quickly. Other days, my face seems great. It's like I never know what tomorrow will bring in terms of it. But sometimes my face just looks lifeless. Even my eyes which are brown, just seem empty and hollow. I have gained dark circles under my eyes that do not change regardless of diet or sleep. I hate looking in the mirror at times and seeing dry skin or wrinkles before I am even thirty. I looked more into this and i have read that improper nutrient absorption from having something like anemia can cause sallow skin and other effects. If i am anemic, do you think when i begin treatment of iron supplements and all, my youthful glowing skin will return? I used to get compliments on my skin and it's glow all the time. Now it seems washed out and lifeless, despite having even better care for it these days. I want my energy back. I am a little confused as to why i would still be experiencing all this when I now have weakened periods due to the birth control. But I guess the anemia is still present even on a regular day.
I stopped myself from eating ice (yeah, eating) for 3 days, I myself don't know HOW!😨😨😵 I should have not watched this video.... where's my ice???......
Hi, i hope you can respond to this, because I am quite worried. Can iron deficiency anemia be inherited? Im very nervous because I’ve had anemia (diagnosed) since I was 6 or younger ( I cant really remember), and I’ve always been told i’ve inherited my ID anemia from my mother. Ever since I was diagnosed I was told to eat a lot of iron rich foods which I did but i still suffered from the symptoms. I ate things like liver, iron rich cereals, and grains- it improved, but it wasn’t gone. It just became manageable. The symptoms get worse when I’m stressed though, so my mom bought me iron supplements and I started taking them when i was 12.. So I guess it got quite better, or I was just distracted by partying a lot. Now that I’m studying in high school and focusing solely on studying(hella stressful) my anemia (im assuming, i cant go out to a hospital to check but based on the symptoms i feel now and last time I was diagnosed Im pretty sure it is) has been the worse its ever been. It was hard to get up from my bed, but its hard to sleep. I can’t describe it but when I walk or even move I feel like my body drops? I feel like i was fainting but I am not... its a weird sensation. I don’t crave too much for Ice as I used to (i loved that) but I have this obsession with chewing on my fingers. Also yes the obvious symptom where I meet jesus every time I stand up too quick. All in all I feel what I can only describe my body being depressed. (i am doing great mentally!! I used to suffer from it though.) I am 14 now, and I am studying about genetics and teacher asked if we could share some genetic disorders we inherited. I described my “inherited anemia” to my teacher and she said there was no such thing as an inherited ID anemia like mine, and ID anemia is supposed to be cured after taking iron supplements for at least a year. I even double checked with my mom! She told me she thinks I inherited it from her (no matter what me and my mom do, our anemia pops back up once in a while) as I was showing symptoms unknowingly even when I was young (always cold, very pale baby , refused to get up etc.) if its not iron deficiency anemia then... what? I can’t find much sources online...I was definitely diagnosed with ID anemia based on my cbc and symptoms.. (My mom was quite poor (my dad died when I was 7) so she didnt have the best education... and we live in a poor country so please dont be upset if my mom did a mistake,, she is really trying her best)
I’ve been having that weird thing that happens to u when u get up (like when ur vision turns black), chest pain, shortness of breath, and the back of my tongue/tonsil has been sore. I did have the restless leg thing two months ago but I don’t have it anymore. Is this anemia or just regular iron deficiency? I’ve also been getting dizzy on cars too. I’m so worried.
A 4-month-old child was anemic. His hemoglobin was 6.5 gm/dL with a hematocrit of 22.4% following a treatment or oral and parenteral iron. His MCV was 64 fL with a MCHC of 29.0%. WBC and PLT counts were normal. Differential showed a slight increase in monocytes (15%). RBC morphology was described as dimorphic (Hypo/Micro and N/N) with polychromasia and pappenheimer bodies present. Serum iron was increased and TIBC decreased. What are the key pieces of information presented in the case study? Hypo/Micro and N/N, with polychromasia and pappenheimer bodies present. 1. What additional testing should be performed? Genetic test 1. Given the age, do you suspect a primary or secondary condition? Why? r. 1. Assuming it is primary, how would it be classified?
Today i realized something . Can somebody help me? I can't sleep😢whenever i tried to sleep, my eyes are closed but my brain couldn't stop thinking. Wallah it hurts me alot 😭😔what can i do? It's been 1 month
I actually feel irritated and tired this past few weeks, and what i think is i am anemic. Also i feel like im stress and anxiety is attacking me. Idk im not sure if these were my situation since i haven't gone to the doctor yet. But im hoping to get better, i hate it.
Kale contains a lot of iron and I see its positive effects more than taking prescribed iron pills from the doctor. KALE IS AMAZING FOR IRON DEFICIENCY.
Just found out that I have iron deficiency and my hair has been turning grey rapidly for a few months now. Is premature grey hair a symptom of iron deficiency?
"Why do they crave ice, I don't know" 😂😂 You're soo funny and so so awesome ! I hope you know that. And man, first time in 4 years of medical school I fully understood anemia and the concept behind it, all these years I used to mug the indices. Thank you so so much ❤💯💯
Pica is different to Pagophagia. Pica can be a craving to any non-nutritional substance like paper, detergent, chalk, etc. due to deficiencies. Pagophagia is a craving to ice.
What I extremely love about your video sereis is how you recap past videos as we go on it makes everything so easy to remember so by the end of the series you've basically studied and memorized the concept about 4 or 5 times already I've finished your nephrology playlist and I don't think I will ever forget the things I understood and memorized there I'm looking forward to finishing this playlist too!

I also have iron deficiency anemia... I have palpitations chills body pain uneasiness shaking hands and legs, heartpain.. Imbalance, dizziness, blurred vision... I tried iron infusion but that failed. Got reaction. I took orally iron supplements for two weeks ig but that doesn't helped me with the symptoms. I don't know what else should I do? I ain't even able to sleep.
I still have to visit a clinic for a CBC test but I am almost 100% sure that I have IDA because I've been suffering from prolonged menstrual bleeding since December 2021, it last from 2 weeks to more than a month. I was prescribed a medicine for anemia and Vit C and took them for one month. Just last month, I started feeling shortness of breath just by taking the stairs and it never happened before even during hiking. I am also losing a lot of hair for the last few months. Then a few weeks ago, I just started munching on raw rice like I was eating some chips! I am actually eating raw rice as of writing this comment. I couldn't stop!
I've been craving the feeling of being in a cold snowy forest, as well as the cold, smoky air in winter... When I see powder on TV, flour etc. I also get cravings to eat or smell it... And don't get me started with the smell of cleaning products, I'm addicted 😂... So odd. I just got some blood work done and have quite severe Iron deficiency anemia...
Can anyone answer please? 4th day of self-treatment. Should you always rest? A little bit of exercise here and there. But if the symptoms is strong. Should I just rest and hope for the best
I have this but I have not slept today I stayed up all night it’s 6 o clock my parents say if I don’t sleep I will pass out I’m wondering what will happen I’m scared rn if anybody realizes this comment please comment back
I just got diagnosed with anemia. But it makes a lot of since cuz I’m always cold my hair doesn’t grow much a lot comes out and sometimes I get a crack on the side of my lips. Mine has got to be more diet because I don’t eat meat. I don’t eat a lot of food in general. I workout but it’s light walking, but I do drink a lot of water but not a lot of cheese and milk which my vitamin D levels are low which makes since. I’m on ferrous sulfate tablets and Vitamin D pills hopefully that helps fix the problem. I’ve never had a issue before but I am tired and fatigued a lot.
i often craving ice and i do crunching ice after eating, i also get tired too easily but the heavy breathing is cause of anxiety/panic attack so i’m not sure if i have anemia
How are u now. I’m literally struggling with anxiety and idk if I have iron deficiency or if it’s just my anxiety telling me I do because my mouth feels dry right now and the bottom of my tounge hurts when I lift it. Honestly it’s so bad
Me not eating enough, nor eating foods that contain iron, coupled with heavy periods and gluten sensitivity is what does me in. When I'm good with my calorie nutrition intake I'm fine. But I when I slip ugh I get anxiety, fast heartrate, dizziness, and when it's bad I get pale randomly, had blue nails, and eventually started blacking out. I got a fitness food tracker and discovered I barely get the correct daily iron intake alone with other nutrients.
I am so sorry to hear that! Glad to know that you’re on the right track! I wish you the best! If you have any medical questions, please see a good doctor! Good luck 🍀
Thanks for the video, i would just like to comment that i was anemic for years, most of my life (22 years), exhausted all the time, I went to the doctor and he insisted i increase my meat intake specifically beef, which only made it worse. After travelling to India at age 23 and meeting many people from all over the world, I realised this is old incorrect science. Unfortunately people are still taught this on nutrition degrees. I went vegan and have been vegan or plant based (however you want to label) it for 5 years now, I’m now 28, and now after a recent blood test I am no longer anaemic, have unlimited energy, my doctors actually said i have incredible blood (not my words) it was super dark and purple which is what you want, not a tomato sauce colour he said. My body runs of iron from plants perfectly. According to science heme iron is more bioavailable meaning it is better absorbed, however iron is a pro oxidant which means in excess it can cause inflammation in the body, which we do not want. According to science you have to eat many more plants compared to meat to get the ‘correct’ intake, however because non heme iron is less bioavilable it means the body can regulate the intake better, a slower absorption is ideal for the body. From experience the plant source of iron is so much richer, meaning depending on what greens you eat in actual fact you can eat a small amount of plants to get all the iron you need. If you eat cheap spinach from a supermarket shelf that has been sitting there for days compared to foraging nettles, that’s a huge difference. Unfortunately most studies are not carried out with all the variables. My advice would be to increase your greens, and I don’t mean just iceberg lettuce, I mean rocket, kale, nettles, dandelions, chard, sorrel, cleavers, parsley, corrianer, all dark dark leafy greens in nature. Which may be bitter, but we need that for our digestion to function optimally. Heme iron is actually a carcinogen and we do not as humans need to consume it. Just want to share because being anemic for so long was really debilitating and now I am super happy and healthy. Also just to clarify as a ‘vegan’ you can still eat unhealthy, so i like the term plant based because my diet is pretty much plants with some legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits etc. I avoid refined sugar, simple carbohydrates like bread, white rice, processed foods etc. I eat a whole foods plants based diet, hope this helps someone. Love and sharing xx Some videos: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D42GJsV-2I4.html m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KQVc8Tpg3T8.html m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5TakgkZai2Q.html
I love the video. Whole series actually. You're cool. What's your source of knowledge? :D I am after heme-onc rotation and yet still learn a lot from your videos!
Oh, so the not being able to exercise thing is because of anemia? Jfc. I've been on iron supplements for literally over a year and my iron levels are still barely high enough to be considered normal🙃🙃
I had iron deficiency back in summer 2020. The main like basic iron deficiency disappeared sometime around September October. But however sometimes I can still get like really dizzy for a few minutes. But that’s not my question. My question is can amenia give scar and affect you for the rest of your life cuz whenever I run or do any high pressure activity or participate in PE I immediately get tunnel sight, feel dizzy and it feels like I’m flying and I can’t feel my body and my sight gets blurry and bad for the rest of the day. Would appreciate a developed answer!!!
Sir I have two doubts please clear how ferrtin level will increase if we have inflammation, and how STFR INCREASE if it don't rely on ferrtin if u have inflammation (2)why iron deficiency anemia have normal wbc count u didn't tell reason u only tell exception plzzz tell reson again if u had waiting for ur reply
I have ED and i dont eat that much so im very low on iron and dont have enough blood for my age. Im losing hair cuz of it. Always tired... im more sad about the hair one cuz it makes me depressed.... i wish i had a car accident so i can just die on the spot. I dont have much blood anyways EZ death.
