"You keep your chin up, buddy." I use that line all the time now from this movie with the younger kids I come across who may be feeling down, anxious, or nervous about something.
Holy crap, all these years listening to that song and I never realized that! Then again, I'm sure there is some connection between Queen and fried chicken.
I love how just because he sneaks in the simulator for maybe 15 minutes a session ....he seems to know all the internal workings of an F16. Learning all the details..instruments..ect is like taking a mini college course lol
I can't speak for an F-16 simulator but as far as a C-17 sim, booked up mostly 24/7 at least up until 2005 when I retired. Seriously, no kid, no Colonel's kid is going to get anywhere near that. The $$$$$$$$$$ per hour costs while much cheaper than flying is still too much of an asset to waste like that. How green lights these types of flicks. Was this released in 1986, was still a USAFA Cadet with no time to waste on crap movies like that.
A friend of mine's father was an F18 pilot. On a day when my cadet squadron got a chance to use the simulator he also knew the internal workings and surprised everyone when he asked for a mig and was actually able to start arming the systems.
Loved watching this again...he could at least still smile about it!! Nice smile too! And - Queen- as background-music, Super!! Thanks for uploading! Love the film!
As most teenager Doug is absolutely obsessed with (game) music for getting motivation. There is a reference in the movie "Sky Fighters", where one of the pilots callsign is "iPod", because he listen constantly to music during the flight, which is normally not allowed at all (or am I wrong? I could be)
Back then computer graphics were so bad they couldn't even use computers for the "simulator" scene. They used movie footage and applied a red filter to the images of the "bandits" to make them look "digital".
Yeah CD Players were out, but only just and they were expensive and huge, and most people still used cassette players. This movie was likely being filmed during 1985 (released 86). The first portable player was only released in 1984 (Sony Discman I believe), and the CD market as a whole was still in it's infancy.
I believe that this the point were upon getting out of the sim, that Doug realizes that the guy he thought was just a line mech at his flight school, was actually a full bird reserve USAF Colonel...
i love how the made up avionics for the f-16 is halarious in this movie, and in iron eagle 2, calling the F-16A's the C model lol. grate movies dont get me wrong, but i wish it would of been done right.
To make it one step more “accurate” they could’ve used the F-15E Strike Eagle. I know Israel had F-15s, so that should’ve been the obvious fighter choice, based on the title of the film, and for plot reasons too, as the F-15E has two seats.
@@raymondyee2008 still amazing aircraft and in short range dog fights can out maneuver anything. Problem now with the technology they could be blown out of the sky long before they ever saw the newer stealth fighters. I'd still love to go for a fly in one though.
@CmdrX3 You wouldn't want to take a CD player up in an airplane. Audio cassettes don't skip. Then again, CDs don't turn into horrific gordian knots inside your stereo either. So make one REALLY GOOD mix tape and leave it in there for the life of the stereo. :-D
@CmdrX3 Yeah, there's a running gag in the computer game world in conflict about one of the soldiers in the game being the only guy around to have a discman and goes thru the whole war trying to protect it.
@Ben55607; The Eurofighter Typhoon is not equipped with thrust adjustable nozzles on its jet engines. It's not as maneuverable as the X-31, F-22 or SU-37. Super maneuverability is an important aspect of air-to-air combat with aircrafts.
I found out i was going over to germany on a camp and while at the air force base will be getting to spend some time on the the flight simmulater this was the fist thing that came to mind
ECM engaged. Breaking right, launching countermeasures, CHAFF, CHAFF, FLARE, FLARE!!! Put me in the seat of a F-15 Eagle or a F-16 Falcon retrofitted with vectored thrust tilt nozzles and I'll beat any other fighter aircraft in a dogfight, the only other fighter aircraft that would be a formidable opponent would be the X-31 and the F-22.
he still is, he has been in a couple of tv shows as of late loved this movie, I would watch this when I got sick of TOp GUn. Top Gun is probably the best tho, Iron eagle had to many errors in the footage of planes, their weapon configs would change every shot, because they had to splice different clips to make it interesting
Does anybody know the song in the movie "Iron Eagle One" when the arabs shot on Doug's dad, and when the hidden SAMS (ROSCHNIKOV 34 I think lol) start shooting on Doug's F-16?
ever notice in this movie how chappy wastes 2 days out of the 3 to save this kids dad cause he's dancin around , joggin and taking showers wtf is up with that shit lol
@ronjr77 probably never. cuz how can they finish it? i think that what made the story so good is that it hasn't ended. sucks for us but its entertainment
