Maiden are amazing live. They've always been great live. They are one of the tightest band in existence. This is an old video, and they are an old band ,(literally). Go see them live now, they've gotten better with age. On another note, I feel bad that you missed out on so much music being so young, but in the other hand you get to do this and discover them now!
There was clearly defined era where the studio versions of hard rock songs sounded like shit compared to their live performances so much so that before releasing them to radio they were “augmented” to improve their sound.
@@bitspacemusic Well, undeniable the last 6 lines of the "Hallowed" lyrics are word by word already used in Beckett's "Life's Shadow" from 1973. But to be honest, this does not make the song "Hallowed be thy name" to what it is. Simply listen to "Life's Shadow", which might be a great piece of art but it is still quite a different song. It's not even similar to "Hallowed" and to what made this song so successful (but there are closer similarities to the Maiden song "Nomad"). Where are the double guitars, the galloping bass and drums and the "air-raid siren" vocals? True, Steve Harris is a Beckett fan, he knew the music and was probably influenced by Beckett when writing "Hallowed". But I would not go that far and say "Beckett wrote Hallowed partially." No, these are cross references and citations in best case. Maiden never made a secret of being Beckett fans: they covered the Beckett song "A rainbow's gold", there were regular meetings between Beckett and Maiden band members, they were invited as VIP to Maiden concerts etc. It's hard to believe Steve Harris stole the song material and ripped Beckett off, if there seems to be a long year friendship between the bands.
@@bitspacemusic Well, it was actually settled in 2018. And by no means Maiden was admitting that Brian Ingham was right with his claim. Maiden pragmatically settled this due to escalating legal fees and the potential huge costs of a court case. Also important to mention is that Brian Ingham originally asked for £900.000 but was happy to get this settled with just a £100.000 payment. If he was so sure that he was right and could get more from Maiden, he could have refused this settlement and insist in a decision by a judge. Well, he did not - so what does this mean? In the end, one has to understand that exactly the same topic was already settled years ago between Maiden and Robert Barton, the other Beckett songwriter with writing credits for A Life's Shadow. Barton claimed back then that the lyrics were solely written by him - and not Brian Ingham. So Brian Ingham would also have to prove his writing credits for the lyrics, which might be difficult. There was a high risk that he would get nothing out of his claim in front of a judge after a long and costly trial! In my opinion, and by no means I'm knowing all the details, this looks more like Ingham needed some money and since his former band mate was already successful with such a claim he just tried the same. He is not the first (and certainly not the last) commercially unsuccessful rock musician who is topping up his pension by sewing a rich rock star that is ideally still active. And they all have in common that they had >30-40 years of amnesia before realizing somebody "stole" their idea...
I must correct myself with regard to my previous post. Brian Ingham was NOT even a member of the band Beckett. He claims to have written the song "Life's Shadow" together with Robert Barton before Robert joined Beckett. That alone should be difficult to prove after nearly 50 years. So there is no obvious connection between Ingham and the band Beckett. And this immediately raises the question whether Ingham also sued the band Beckett, because "his" lyrics were published on the album "Beckett"? More and more the suspicion grows that Brian Ingham is just a freeloader who wanted to increase his pension. And £100,000 for 6 lines of text - if he really wrote them - is certainly not a bad yield. It still remains to be discussed how much these 6 lines of text really contributed to the success of "Hallowed be thy name" or even of the band Iron Maiden. How big was the commercial success of Beckett's song "Life's Shadow", using (almost) the same 6 lines?
The best thing about Iron Maiden is that they are exceptional at everything. Whether it be performance, lyrics, vocals, rhythm, drums, etc. There's just not an underwhelming part of anything they do
I saw them in 1988 at Wembly Arena when I was 14. I had a great time. It was so loud I mainly recognised the songs as they vibrated through my bones. I got home with ears ringing all night like a fire alarm and had ear infections for a month after!!
I think that is one of most espectacular vocal performance live in all history of rock and metal, and detail: in those years there was not the tecnology of pro tools and effects that many use today!
This is probably the greatest song ever written. It's such a deeply meaningful story, performed to perfection, and presented in such a horrific yet thought provoking way. Change my mind. The instruments follow the emotion of the story--anxiety, defiance, existential terror, transcendence. If you close your eyes you can see the prisoner before you, feel the press of the crowd. You don't just listen to this song. You bear witness.
You are witnessing one the greatest live bands to ever grace humanity....If ever you get to see these guys live get ready to be on the business end of something unbelievable....!
Iron Maiden was formed by the Bass Player in 1975. Their first studio album was in 1980 and this song here is from their third album (and first with this singer Bruce Dickinson) called The Number of the Beast. The Number of the Beast was released in 1982, and it looks like this show is from the Beast on the Road tour (possibly Hammersmith Odeon?)
Iron maiden formed in the early 70s. They were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal along with Motorhead, Judas Priest, Def Leopard and many more
The only time I was fortunate enough to catch Iron Maiden in concert was during Seventh Tour of a Seventh Son in Sacramento, 1988. Guns & Roses was supposed to be the opening act, but it was raining (more like misting) in an outdoor amphitheater and G&R (specifically Axl) said *No* to the rain. Bruce came out and *shredded* Axl for punking out and fired them right then and there. They then played an extra 45 minutes or so of older stuff to make up for it, which was glorious.
Have always loved listening to this song the vocals are awesome but just listening to the instrumental both guitarists bass along with the drumming so well put together what a great song🤘🎙️🎸🥁
Iron Maiden only had two guitarists and a bassist at this time. Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Steve Harris. They however added Janick Gers to the lineup as well when the "original", reunited in 2000 for their Brave New World album, that saw the return of their singer Bruce Dickinson to the band.
As a fan since 15+ years of the band it was really refreshing and energizing to see someone's genuine reaction to hearing them for the first time. Thank you for that :)
Iron Maiden Foreman 1975 they've had several lead singers but I do believe that Bruce Dickinson is the best and the live version of Hello by their name was in 1982 and he is just phenomenal the way he's able to hold that note and he never gets drowned out by the guitar riffs
Hey man first time commenting i really enjoy watching your journey discovering new/old music. Bruce has defied the test of time. I seen the band last year and can still get the job done. He is a brilliant man, to really appreciate smart gifted he is you must his bio, the bass player is probably the best of the best, he writes must of the music and rest of the guys unbelievable talents, keep on reacting bro!
The singer Bruce is a Pilot also and the band have their own "tour bus around the world" A Jumbo Jet "Ed Force one" on tour this is because of Bruce that drives it partly during touring \m/ \m/ That is cool ☆
Judging by the stage set and who's there, particularly on the drums, this is from the tour behind the "Number of the Beast" album (where this song appears), which ran from Feb. to Dec. 1982
Iron Maiden saved my life brah. Saw them 5 times. Nice to see a fellow Afro American loving Iron Maiden! I learned how to write rap lyrics from Steve Harris (Bassist)
Man! I love it when you put that "Stank Face" on my man! Ive been a huge fan of Maiden since 79' when Steve Harris, the bass player shoots his bass at the crowd! I'm a huge fan of the '"Stank Face" and all you do brother! Keep it up! Love and respect, Metal Donny....
They start to play back in 1975, first album released in 1980, they have struggle in beginning with the guitarist with drummers, but they make it stay strong and to this day they rock, and they are G. O. A. T. Apsolutly, they rock more then 40 years and still coming with those song that sounds just amazing, last album book of souls is freaking masterpiece, song long 18 min, 14min, 15min, etc it's hard to make song that long and not to be boring, when you listen to it, is like 3 min... They are just legends, living legends... Peace and Love ✌️ ✌️
Iron Maiden is one of my favorite heavy metal bands ever! I saw them for the first time in 1981 opening up for Judas Priest and I have seen them several times since then! Their concerts are absolutely amazing!
Those Dickinson brothers were something special. Even though I personally wasn't big into Iron Maiden is one of the greatest of all time. We're talking late 70's, huge in the 80's and 90s.
3 Guitars, 1 bass (Steve Harris, one of the best in the world), Nikko on drums and Bruce at lead vocal. Maiden has been a staple of metal greatness for almost 40 years! Great choice Jamel! Oh, and the mascot character is Eddie :)
Almost any Maiden song demonstrates how talented Steve Harris is. When you go to a maiden show you will hear UFO bumper music while they are setting up. The reason for this is that Harris was a follower of Pete Way (bass player for UFO). Harris is not only a relented player he is the studio, arrangement and writing brains behind the whole thing !!
So you were asking about the length of the opening note..... There are two techniques that could be being used here (leaving aside tricks by the sound guy) to achieve that long of a note 1 step 1 the long exhale... getting the perfectly designed sound out of the minimum amount of breath exhaled and then having a quite longer than average exhale while sustaining that exhale, then being able to quickly inhale to be ready for the next line of lyrics. 2 being able to make sound on the INHALE that sounds like something normally heard on the exhale. It should be noted that both these techniques can be hard on the vocal cords because it’s forcing them to do something they are not designed to do. This is much like a baseball pitchers pitch is a motion the human arm is not designed to do, which is why a professional baseball pitcher anticipates a point in his career where he will be shelved for surgery. Unfortunately for a musician this is sometimes not an options which is why even when they are known for this sustained note they take multiple precautions both seen and unseen to minimize the damage and improve the recovery
band created 1997 record deal 1979 1st album 1980 (with first vocalist Paul D'anno) 2nd album 1981 (with Paul) 3rd album 1983 (with new vocalist the air raid siren Bruce Dickinson. Which this song is from) what an entrance.
Oh yeah, this singer was raised up singing Opera, he can defo hold a note. I have personally been following BRUCE DICKINSON since 1968, when I learned of him. I was 6 years old. This just happens to be my favorite band!!!! Oh yeah, this is the type of reaction I was hoping for - - - IRON MAIDEN KICK ASS !!! ENJOY
Seeing as Clive Burr is on drums there, this would've been from 1982. That sort of time period, as he was out of the band the following year. Iron Maiden has been around (in one incarnation or another) since 1977.
An almost brief history of Iron Maiden. They were founded in 1976 and released their self-titled debut in 1980. They are still touring and recording and have sold 100 million copies. Although only Steve Harris (bassist main songwriter) and lead guitarist/songwriter Dave Murray are the only remaining founders, this line has been around a long time. Adrian Smith (lead guitar/songeriter) replaced the other lead guitarist for the second album Killers (1981). Singer/songwriter Bruce Dickinson replaced Paul Di'anno for the 3rd album Number of the Beast (1982) and drummer Nico McBrain joined for the 4th album Piece of Mind (1983). Jers Gannick replaced Adrian Smith in 1990. Bruce left in 1993. Bruce and Adrian returned in 1999 but they kept Jers as a third lead guitarist. While I don't like the newer music as much, they are still great and actually bigger than in the 1980s prime. Their live shows are legendary with a highlight being the mascot Eddie joining the on stage which circa 1983 on was a giant which was altered to match the album covers. This song was from 1982's Number of the Beast.
I swear this and southern rock are the same thing if you give it proper comparison. Bach and Beethoven would be proud of this if they were around in these days.
1975 then Dickenson joined in 1981 and the guitar players are the song writers.....so talented all of them Steve Harris top 10 bass player in the world .....
Brasil na área, quem for brasileiro deixa o like. ;)
I heard this when I was in 5th grade and I'm 48 now ( long time ago) this is my favorite album of all time. Every song is really fucking awesome. The album is THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST. Wu Tang 36 Chambers number 2.
check out the version on 'Live After Death'... greatest live album of all time, they are on fire on that show. The show in the vid vis Clive Burr... after Nicko joined, they went into awesome new realms. Class vid, UP THE IRONS.
Watched it again, ouch!!! Top 5 favorite 1. Iron Maiden 2001 (three lead guiitars) 2. Iron Maiden 1988 (synthesizers) 3. Iron Maiden 1983 (Nicko on drums) 4. Black Sabbath 5. Led Zeppelin
This song will never get old. Song requests ( sorry if you've already done videos for them, I'm a little late to the party.) 1) sabbath bloody sabbath - Black Sabbath 2) bringing on the heartbreak - def leppard
Jamel love that you are will and waiting to listen to ANYTIME! You’ve got that PMA dude... and if you don’t know if that’s a reference then you need to do a reaction video to “bad brains :attitude”
