What he said about comparing something like Slipknot's sound to Iron Maiden, I've been feeling the same lately. - Even though I started out with Maiden, and started playing because of them over 15 years ago, I suddenly kind of went back to them recently and somehow became fascinated with how raw and to the point their sound is. - Well, that of Slipknot as well, but they really pump their sound to kind hype it up. Which is exactly fitting for them, they have an insanely angry style and I love that band as well, in an entirely different way. - But how Maiden gets their grinding chords and singing leads is just a big contrast. It's also much more about higher registers than like how Slipknot goes all the way down to B and A on 6-strings. Maiden rarely even bangs the low E (like say Metallica would), which brings up a different kind of excitement.
