This was the first time they played this song and it wa supposed to be an instrumental. But Dianno decided it was not finished yet. He wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies just half an hour before the show started, what a genius!
You know, everyone always talks about EVH, Rhoads, Hendrix, Page, etc., but Dave and Adrian are sooo underrated. Their dual solos are as good as anything out there. And, there are so many solos from so many songs.
Such rawness and attitude! Paul was truly one of a kind which helped produce two of the greatest metal albums of all time. Rest In Power, Paul Di Anno.
I like Bruce, but you really FELT Paul. His vocals are agonizing, but the way he plows through it.. Heavy as fuck. Dare I say like a metal 'Soul' singer. Like the Otis Redding of metal or something. Amazing and underrated
Man, how can anybody not say this is SOLID GOLD! Di'Anno and Clive are like the oil and radiator fluid in a 1970 muscle car! Without them, car doesn't run!
@@pietdijkman1980 - Yes, but not the same sound!!! I like the rawness of the Di'Anno years!!!! It is like a 1970 Firebird revving its engine! Up The Irons!🤘
Dianno vocal chords couldn't handle it even in the short time he sung for them. Nothing against him he had raw energy he just didn't have strong enough vocal cords.
@@Duck_Dodgers - No Way!!! Di'Anno is king of vocals and Dickinson could never touch him what so ever!!! I like Bruce don't get me wrong and will always love Maiden, but this lineup is unmatched no question with Clive on drums!! Well oiled machine running full steam!!
Maybe my favorite rock singer....we all have to go at some point. Maiden Japan was the soundtrack to my last few years in college and still makes my body convulse and rage naturally. WHat he had was POWER and AGGRESSION with a unique punk sort of thing going on. That last component is what gave the music the angst.......never replaceable and I would have loved to see more Maiden albums with him.
RIP Paul Di’anno those vocals are seriously so good. You can tell everything that followed iron maiden in the metal scene was heavily influenced by their style of playing and particularly the style of metal vocals. Thank you for your part in developing of one the best and longest serving musical styles in the world 🤘
Paul's voice is brilliant for this early stuff. He clashed with Steve Harris, that was the problem. The Iron Maiden town wasn't big enough for the both of them. However, never did Maiden make such spine-tingling, dangerous and spell-binding music as they did when Paul and Steve were together. As for Dave Murray; he's just been genius from the day he joined until today. If he was one of the 60's guitarists like Clapton or Townsend - he'd be considered a genius by all, not just people with taste.
as i recall from the maiden dvd, which this is off of, dianno stated that he actually wrote the songs for THIS version in the dressing room. The song already was written and stuff, but he changes a few parts here and there, and that is why these lyrics are different than the album and other concerts. Hopefully that ends the lyric dispute
I'd give anything to jump in the Time Machine and travel back to be an audience member to witness the Glory of Maiden. Oh my, Dave and Adrian, oh my god!
Lyrics: You fight in a street end, you make all your claims every night You turn on the power to burn out the meek and the mild We will stay here, you're full of yourself and your greed You won't stop us while London is looking to be I challenge your kingdom and those which you want to succeed I step on their bodies and squeeze the unholy ones bleed You won't stop us, you're full of yourself and your greed We won't let you, I'm looking for rest don't you see?
Yes you're right saying that this live was recorded before the studio version, I was wrong :) But I'm sure that they already had the original lyrics, and Paul wrote this "alternative version" 5 minutes before going on stage. Paul himself says this in the Early Days DVD :) Well anyway this is a great version :D I love it!
I was there. They ended up playing certain songs several times to get them just right for live video being recorded. I remember Prowler and Running Free being played 4 or 5 times, and a couple of epic Phantom of the Operas.
@Bananenbennie No, in an interview they explain that Paul wrote this different lyrics 5 minutes before starting the show. But the song was already complete (with the original lyrics), this live has been recorded after the Album (and Paul also says "the title track from the second album")
