When most people think about metal its about that scream shit. Personally i think that shit is godawful. Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth is real metal not that squeeling shit
@@RoyyGn Yeah I have only heard that stuff on occasions. I'm relitavely new to metal and I can tell you that from a person who thought metal was screaming I was dead wrong. It's a shame because I really feel a lot more people would like some kind of metal but the negative connotations of metal being screaming and satanic which are both false, put them off. Pretty much all the people I befriend I tell them to listen to metal. First edge them into it with some classic led zeppelin and black sabbath and then iron maiden, metallica, Megadeth and so on.
Reddit quality commenting... (That is supposed to be very embarrassing, although I guess this doesn't compute for almost anyone. It is of course worthless to debate whether "YT quality commenting", or any other, would have been better, no, but there is no winning in this, although some seem to think they could "win" by being just like something...)
Clive Burr's birthday and passing. 8 March 1957 / 12 March 2013 My favorite Iron Maiden drummer member ever.. He just drove the Iron Maiden power level to the top. Rock In Peace Clive
I really dig Clive’s drumming. Whether it be blink-182 or Motörhead, nothing beats the classic drummers - Scott and Phil! I like how it picks up speed at the end too, I’ve never noticed if they do it in other live albums and I’ve got some on vinyl
@@finismalorum9746da fuck are you talking about?? Yeah Bruce is old but he sounds better now than most rockers in there young prime.ever sounded...take for instance axl rose 1988 and axl rose 2018 ..now listen to Bruce Dickenson 1988 and Bruce 2018 and not much difference..I even believe there's a video of Bruce over the years ..Bruce can still belt them out I've seen him live many times and he always gives 110%
It could be because the spiritual ties it has to it. It has a few scriptures in it. Scriptures are know to give life, light and encouragement in dark times
My fucking God dude... That part still makes me tear up and give me the illest chills possible. Bruce Dickinson is an absolute fucking legend, no one will ever be like him.
@Aldo S. Of course you can't forget about Ronnie James Dio! He created more of an impact on music than Bruce did. I still like Maiden a little more though. Bruce is my favorite. ❤

Hell rite hear havent stop try to meditate to bruce fucken evil but insane voice the man sing from his soul with so much passion it just pump me up every time
I'm 24 and have never really listened to Iron Maiden before, only 'Number of the Beast'. But goddamn, this is one of the best live performances I've ever seen on RU-vid. I'm a new fan, for sure.
My dad is a drummer and possibly the biggest Iron Maiden fan I've ever seen (he's made one of their songs my second name), he was barely 11 years old when this performance happened, and today I am 21 years old and I continue to appreciate the band's works from waaay before I was even born, I never cease getting impressed by how timeless and legendary Iron Maiden is, they keep improving and getting better and better even nowadays, I know they'll be in history books for a really long time Iron Maiden was my dad's teenage favorite band, I've been listening to them and to my dad playing since I was born, and I hope someday I get to see them live and pass their legacy on to future generations ♡
During their peak, they were heads and shoulders above just about anyone. I'm surprised more people aren't into them. The only band I'd say had an edge to Maiden was late 70's era Judas Priest (1976-1979) ... one of the most creative streaks in not just heavy metal history, but music history 🤘🤘
WE WANT INFORMATION,INFORMATION,INFORMATION....WHO ARE U.....THE NEW NUMBER 2. WHO IS NUMBER 1? U ARE NUMBER 6.....IAM NOT A NUMBER..... IAM A FREE MAN.......AAAAAAHHHHAHAHAHAHA
best live performance ever....remember that I saw them first time in Greece in 13.9.1988. Thirteen years old then, snicked out from my home and went on foot (15 miles walking) paid sixteen hundred drachmas {about 5 Euros today} ( much expensive for a 13year old boy then (didn't spend my allowance for 4 months!!!) BEST experience ever ... Up the irons!!!!!
Agreed. I stopped listening to Maiden for a long time after he left. I thought Clive WAS Maiden. I could get over Paul leaving sort of as "Killers" was phenomenal but so was "Number of the Beast". Clive seemingly had absolute control of Maiden in a way Nicko never did.
@@D-Day-fb3pw Can ANYONE dislike this performance? When someone is doubting my taste in music I just show them this song haha. Most of my friends who aren't even metalheads still think this song is awesome. When I met my girlfriend 3 years ago she didn't like metal at all, but when I blasted this song in the car a couple of times she grew to love it. Since then I've brought her to both Maiden and Metallica concerts and she loved every second of it lmao
well I love this song too, but "the best piece of music ever written" is a bit over the top? Aside from that being very subjective I think it is hard to argue that musically speaking there are better written songs than probably any Iron Maiden song or for that matter probably any contemporary music piece.
whoever says that obviously ain't a true rocker man when I think rock I think of such icons such as Chris Cornell Chester Pennington rob Halford and of course the legendary iron maiden along with Bruce Dickinson man all these guys are legends
This would never be this tight again. Two words. CLIVE BURR!! The pocket is so huge and steady. It's just brilliant but never sounded the same after he left the band. That right hand during the first half of the song was his trademark! Just so perfect and so gloriously powerful. Bruce was untouchable here!!!
I completely agree, and yet, I have to say - while Clive keeps it as tight as a pull of a black hole, Nicko stretches it, bends it and swings it just like you're riding the black hole's event horizon itself. Both are incredibly awe-inspiring when it comes to playing this song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ToPD_KDU-I.html - this is absolutely otherworldly.
@@johnd7210 they didn’t get radioplay…that makes their achievements tenfold…how they managed to get the biggest and most diverse Fanbase is beyond me….
A lifelong Maidenhead (well, since 1986) couldn't agree more. My best friend is a Judas Priest fanatic, and I can't fault him for that, but I showed him this video once, and he just whispered at the end, "Well, I can see why you're a Maiden fan."
@@Dragonblaster1 I feel like their performance always has some magic. It clearly attracts you. Superb guitars, bass, drum, voice..Never disappointing you.
Nobody could through a better Rock and Roll show than Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden ,it just can not be done they are the very greatest of live performers ever, say as of we who agree
So many people think Rob Halford is the greatest. Don't get me wrong he's good but Bruce Dickinson doesn't go falsetto to reach the high notes. This is an amazing vocalist with all the intangibles a singer wants. Very underrated.
This is the song that got me into metal. I used to think it was too much screaming but I heard this song and it was more soft than most metal songs, so I liked this song and decided to check more of Iron Maiden. Thank you Iron Maiden for getting me into this awesome genre.
6:13 I will never not get goosebumps during these final lines. Like the whole song exists only to build up to that final exclamation. And Bruce absolutely destroys it live. I love this version over the recording. From a storytelling and songwriting perspective, this song is unmatched. The instrumentation mirrors the lyrics and the psyche of the speaker as it grows more and more uneasy. If you read the lyrics, if you pay attention to the guitars and drums and bass building and building in their tempo and aggression to this point, you begin to realize how important these final lines are and how Bruce's delivery makes it so perfect. The speaker begins the song afraid of death, doubtful of God's existence, then he spirals into despair asking-if he exists-why God's allowed this to happen to him. By the end of the song he has an epiphany, a revelation, and as he's about to die, he reliquishes all his doubts and accepts his fate, finally wailing in guttural, primal submission: "HALLOWED BE THY NAME!" Goosebumps. Every time.
Wow, you know what? I love this song and have listened to countless times, but your comment opened a new dimension to the song and just adds another brilliant layer to it! Thanks dude, Thanks!
lmfao I shit you not, I get goosebumps during the entire time and the end is just the climax where I can finally die in peace knowing I've lead a good life
skyguitar Thanks! Haven't listened to it in a while in all honesty, but when I was younger it was hands-down my favorite album to listen to on loop haha. Sorry for the late reply, YT didn't alert me for some dumb reason. Cheers mate!
yeah, hes had other great performances but this is hands down the best, both for Bruce and the rest of the band. The note hold on the word low and than the transition scream. Then the final hallowed be thy name and note hold are the best.
I like the 2001 RiR because Bruce interacts more with the ppl and the guitarists seems to having a good time. This version hands down tho, specially at the last part. Bruce absolutely nailed the screams
Everyone can have their opinions but clive kills on the drums in this version, ive never seen a version where nicko does it justice, and i love nicko's drumming btw
When I was a teen I used to blast this on my stereo. Had some friends over and my mom came home. They only heard her yell....and they where extremly shocked when I turned the dial up....she wanted me to play it louder. Still love this song....and now its a fond memory of my departed mother
This performance for me is the absolute pinnacle of music. If I had to pick a favorite song, it would be this performance of this song. Absolutely goosebump-inducing.
the sands of time for me are running looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!
The greatest Metal song ever. Period! It has everything the initial buildup and intro, the crescendo leading to a massive twin lead explosion. The drums and tempo throughout, the bass gallop and the power vocals, and that amazing finish. If there ever was a perfect metal song. This is it.
I remember "air drumming" to this song over 30 years ago. It's amazing to just now find out that Clive played the 16th note hi-hat pattern with just his right hand. I always thought he "fanned" it with two hands on the hats, but check out 3:49: clearly shows one hand playing the pattern. Drummers, ever try playing that with one hand, at this tempo and volume, on 15" heavy high hats, especially near the end of a show? My right arm would've fallen off! RIP Clive, you were one bad-ass on the tubs and blades.
Scott Woods Holy shit, people like you are an intellectual detriment to the Maiden fanbase. Please stop spreading your idiocy around. And that's got to be the worst comeback I've heard in my life. All you do is insult Bruce and Nicko from behind a keyboard. If you told your bullshit to Bruce in person, he'd probably beat the fucking shit out of your empty skull. He and Nicko make Maiden the great band it is today, just as great as when Clive was their drummer. I'd be glad to tell it to your face, but you sound like an asshole Brit who rarely exits his mold-ridden basement, and I have no intention of crossing the Atlantic to talk to dipshits like you.
Scott Woods different styles, written in different times... Nicko is pretty dope too cuz he puts his own style into something... I mean I've been drumming for a while and I'm not going to play Metallica's Enter Sandman by the book! I'm fucking around with time and making it my own.
@@RPMCanes: Not dead, it's just moved into genres that don't get much radio airplay. You have to go looking for it nowadays, it doesn't get delivered to you anymore.
Still wondering how Iron Maiden is still touring strong to this day. The evidence is clear. Kick as bass, vocals, guitars, drums, writing, lyrics, production, mixing and engineering. Not to mention, Eddie! Can't wait to see them this October 2022!!!
I'm 21, I saw then on oct 4. It was the best moment of my entire life. Every single time i heard them since, i get goosebumps and my eyes fill with tears. It was simply unbelievable , like a dream u know? Anyway, i know that i will remember that day for the rest of my life!
@@porfiriodev ...thanks for your post. October 4 is the day before my birthday. I am so happy that there are younger people out there that are moved by their music. I hope you get to see them a million more times! Love to you from ohio usa.❣
when I hear this song... Something changes in my brain and my body... the whole feeling changes no matter what was before hearing the song. This is so tremendously good!
I have finally concluded that Mr doctor Dickinson is not human, he must be from a superior parallel universe who can write songs and sing them to such high quality and clarity. Truly truly amazing.
Normal thing, don't complicate it, most important is how frequent the artist do that! But it will be always inspiring, influencing, and ripping off, original work, mix it creatively together, that's it! Actually every aspect of humanity is like that lol! But some few have way bigger impact than the others @@Edward-sx5yf
"Hallowed Be Thy Name" I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time 'Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallows Pole The sands of time for me are running low Running low When the priest comes to read me the last rites I take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me Can it be that there's some sort of an error Hard to stop the surmounting terror Is it really the end, not some crazy dream? Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming It's not easy to stop from screaming But words escape me when I try to speak Tears flow but why am I crying? After all I am not afraid of dying Don't I believe that there never is an end? As the guards march me out to the courtyard Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you" If there's a God then why has he let me go? As I walk all my life drifts before me And though the end is near I'm not sorry Catch my soul 'cause it's willing to fly away Mark my words believe my soul lives on Don't worry now that I have gone I've gone beyond to see the truth When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion Yeah, yeah, yeah Hallowed be Thy name Yeah, yeah, yeah Hallowed be Thy name
That last verse when he sings "Hallowed be thy name" just gives me goosebumps everytime. It sounds so supernatural like how is it possible for a human to do that
I know right! When I heard it for the first time, my jaw dropped and even now after many times of listening to it. I am still amazing by his true talent!!
The best Maiden song ever... the best metal song ever! The best version! And I was there! If I need a music rush, ever, I pull up Hallowed Be Thy Name on my iPod. Try not head-banging and air-guitaring to this, I dare you. Dave and Adrian on Gibson Explorers, and the underrated Clive Burr on drums (much though I love Nicko). Fantastic! A Maidenhead to the day I die.
No auto tune AND Bruce motioning to the sound guy that he can’t hear himself in the monitor AND perfect vocal delivery. Astonishing, not too mention the incredible band and song.
That's what got me. Bruce sitting on the stairs like "up the monitor man I can't hear myself" while sustaining that "low" flawlessly. Absolutely amazing.
"Tears flow but why am i crying After all im not afraid of dying Dont i believe that there never is an end?" This is so fucking deep and well written i cant get enough
Unfortunately they didn't write it. They stole it from a band called Becket and got sued over it. Really hit me hard, didn't think they would do such a thing.
"When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion" This is the real line from this amazing song that not enough people comprehend.
My all time favorite band. Metal doesn't get more hard charging than "Hallowed be thy Name" ----Also, the best concerts you'll ever attend where fans go absolutely nuts. God bless these guys for the joy they have shared over so many decades.
me too, man, *sigh* me too. I just got into heavy metal and Iron Maiden and so far this is my favorite song of theirs and my god their performance in this video was exactly like I pictured while listening to the song an endless amount of times. Bruce Dickinson's facial expressions and even his haircut is exactly the way I imagined it would be. That sir is amazing
To all the people thinking Dickinson's vocals are overdubbed, know that this was recorded in a time when overdubbing in the studio was a major challenge, much less doing it live. Overdubbing as we know it didn't start coming in properly until a few years after this was made when digital equipment became more readily available, and even then most studio's still had the good old reel to reel to track the bands. There's no trickery here with Bruce, or the band. Fact is the tech just didn't exist in 1982, so what you hear is what you get. They were (and are) fucking good at what they do, they don't need any 'enhancements' to make them sound good.
Maiden are one of those rare bands where the live performance often surpasses the studio recording. Besides live rock music is mostly about the skill of the musician with his instrument, as there are no electronic sounds involved. Hence out of any genre it generally comes across the best when performed live!
Cheer up! At least you got to know them and listen to their music *while they're still around*. Plus a new album is on the way! One day you'll be able to tell your grandchildren about all this and they'll be jealous because future generations won't have the chance to live that experience. I feel privileged that this band has spanned into my adult life :)
I wish I could have seen them when Clive was around (not a knock against Nicko or anything), but they're still in top form and I could probably go see them if I had the money.
I wish every day that I could have been born early enough to see them live! Every singles thing about this performance is perfection. The guitar players all look so chill too even though they are absolutely ripping it up!!
I’ve only listened to two Maiden albums so far (working on changing that) and I keep coming back to listen to this one, it’s one of my favorite songs so far, it’s just beautiful from start to finish.
Powerslave is easily my favorite, with a close second honestly being The Book Of Souls, hot take, but I think the whole album is banger after banger, with their longest ever song in it.
Ive been a Maiden fan for 24 years, own every album theyve ever produced, own nearly every concert film they've released and saw them live 4 times ( will be a 5th in November!) and have heard this song countless times: this absolutely THE best version ever performed and that's saying mountains
I saw this tour when I was 18 in 1982 .Bought the album...met Iron Maiden at a Turtles records and tapes in Atlanta just before the concert...had them them autograph the LP .Still have it to this day.Turned my 23 year old son onto early Maiden.Thankfully,he absolutely adores their first 3 albums just like his old man.I saw Maiden live twice back then.First with Paul DiAnno then with Bruce.I'm 57 now...old man .but I still love my hard rock, hardcore punk rock, and of course early Iron Maiden. The autographed album will go to my son when I'm wearing a dirt blanket !
