It's not that I can´t believe someone doesn´t know Iron Maiden. It's that I can´t believe someone with 80s metal long hair doesn´t know Iron Maiden!
@helendunbar1845
@helendunbar1845 Год назад
Exactly!! No way someone who's a modern rock/metal fan doesn't at least know of the influence and importance of a band like Maiden and Bruce's singing style, even if they don't know the band's catalogue.

But this isn't 80's metal long hair, they had shit tons of hair spray in the 80's, the great hair without artificial preservatives was mostly the 70's from Zeppelin and Sabbath.

@Rogério Penna I agree with this, but many popular American metal bands of this time did. I am American, so I hope you can understand this is my main qualifier. I mean maybe many European bands didn't wear hairspray, but the hair bands were popular at this time in America.

You love the tempo so much, I think you’d really appreciate their energy live. Hallowed Be Thy Name is widely (not universally) considered to be their best, and the 1982 live performance really shows their live energy. For uptempo, the first two that come to mind are Aces High and The Trooper.

I stand behind this... that 1982 performance, which I believe was in Toronto, is a metal masterpiece. As you watch it you will be sucked in and will forget that it was recorded that long ago. (You will need a laptop or tablet though for the video).

Yes they all sound like that. Try The Trooper next. Bought my first Maiden album in 1983. The number of the Beast and been hooked from then on. Seen them last year for my 20th time. Maiden has sold over 200 million copies total. The biggest influential metal band of all time. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Slipknot, Disturbed, Saboton and many more all praise Iron Maiden you have over 40 years of Iron Maiden to listen to. Hallowed be Thy Name, Run to The Hill, Aces High, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a good start. Your going to love this.

And speaking of 2015, the band meticulously remastered their entire catalog that year. First they had to find and restore the master tapes from the British Archives, and then go through and remaster them. They released them all in 4 album spurts on Vinyl first from 2015 to 2017, and then on CD from 2018 to 2020. They sound the best they ever have because they maintain the dynamic range of the original recordings that got destroyed in 1998 loudness war remasters. The loudness war was when record companies would remaster albums by boosting the volume of the softer parts of the music which eliminated the punch of louder parts of the music. So like when you were expecting that sudden punch in the music from the original recording, it was no longer there. Well, these 2015 remasters fixed that and so the recording are back to their original sound, but cleaned up and enhanced to more modern standards. In the early albums, Steve Harris' bass comes through better and gives the music that extra punch it did when they first recorded it.

One of their very best, along with "Hallowed Be Thy Name" which is simply epic, starts off slow but speeds up considerably (my favorite of theirs; on this same album), "Aces High" (a metal homage to the heroes of the Battle of Britain), "Wasted Years", and yes "2 Minutes to Midnight". They are all highly talented musicians, and Bruce Dickinson the singer is simply amazing. The lyrics were written after one of the band members, bassist/founder Steve Harris I think, had a dream the night after watching that horror flick "The Omen"...that final verse could be the rallying cry of any good Lich from Dungeons & Dragons, lol. Not every I.M. song is 'fire' like this (the ones I pointed out are for certain), many are simply interesting musically with lyrics about a myriad of subjects...but that's a perfect word to use for this one. The dueling solos are a mainstay of their songs, and on this one I love the 2nd one, it just blisters. 🤘

Primary lyricist Steve Harris was inspired to write Number after watching Damien/Omen 3. When this song first came out, the band was accused of being "devil worshippers"...mainly from Christian leaders/pastors. Ironic, that by the end of 1990s, said leaders were embroiled in scandals/controversies that led to their publicized downfall!-smh. Another irony is that 1990s, drummer Nicko McBrain is devout Christian. Have been HUGE fan of Maiden since 1981....Up the Irons!\m/

Here are four songs for you, you just have to react to: Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys, and from these you actually should also see the videos: Blind Guardian - Bard's Song / Valhalla live @ Wacken, Unleash the archers - Awakening, Jinjer - Pisces!!

Love to hear how you talk about everything being overproduced and autotuned, about songs needing more soul... Go and check out Rick Beato's channel, about what makes certain songs great and about how overproducing is killing good music. It's called "feel", the little impurities that used to make songs feel genuine, made them feel authentic - and all that's gone with modern digital music production... Well, you guys are in for a world of great music once you get into listening to more stuff from the 70s and 80s!!!

The entire controversy about this song was, that it came out in the early '80's, during a time called the "Satanic Panic." The Christian right was desperately trying to link artists to being Satanists or at least Satanic.
