If I’m not mistaken, his voice and personality wasn’t what comic fans expected having already known the character so that probably had something to do with it as well they probably got a lot of complaints about there casting choices
@@danielhead8123 I wouldn’t say they rarely get complaints about casting. I’ve heard my fair share complaints about the casting of the X-Men series. And same with the MCU(the ancient one in Doctor Strange, for example) I wasn’t hating on Don more or less pointing out the fact that Terrence Howard doesn’t fit the personality type nor voice you would imagine if you’re a big fan of james rhodes in the comics
The Mickey Rourke character's name is Whiplash. He was in the comics and has been much improved in the movie. And line about Scarlett Johansson's character having modeled in Japan is a nod to an earlier movie of hers called LOST IN TRANSLATION. Don Cheadle replaced Terrance Howard as Rhodey for the rest of the MCU movies. Enjoy
Quick note: Rhodey in the silver Iron Man suit is called War Machine. That's why Tony said to him, "You want to be the War Machine?" when they were fighting each other. That's what he's called in the comics, although I'm pretty sure that's the only time they call him by that name in the MCU.
Actually they say it quite a bit. Iron Man 3 calls him War Machine because he thinks it's cooler than Iron Patriot, and in Age of Ultron he literally says "War Machine comin at you" or something.
36:54, I grew up reading Iron Man in the 1980’s. I still remember the issue when Rhodey took over as Iron Man. Then later when he became War Machine. So watching this live action in the movie theater as an adult was like a childhood dream come true to.
@@lordmortarius538 you remember the iron Man 2 Xbox 360 game? Omfg I used to be obsessed with that game as a kid, I'd give anything to play it again, war machine was my favorite, I had mini guns equipped everywhere 😭
"Who's this guy?". It's Anton Vanko, a Russian scientist who worked with Stark on the creation of the first large scale arc reactor. His son Ivan Vanko inherited his belongings, including the blue print to the arc reactor. In the comics Anton Vanko was the first Crimson Dynamo. A Russian in a super powered suit created with stolen Stark technology blueprints. Stolen by Russian spy Natasha Romanoff. First appearance Tales of Suspense vol. 1 #97 January 1968. Another Anton Vanko was the villain Whiplash. No relation to the other Vanko. In the MCU they combined aspects of both Whiplash - the plasma charged whips as well as the Iron Man style suit which would relate to the Crimson Dynamo origin. First appearance Tales of Suspense vol. 1#46 October 1963 writer Stan Lee artist Don Heck. In the comics Tony kept the suit in a briefcase. It was much thinner. 😂
2:30 you're questioning why he has these blueprints. Note that at this moment, we see the blueprints are a project by Anton Venko a Howard Stark. Anton would be the man who just died, the man who did the scream is Anton's son. 5:25-5:26 That is correct, Terrence Howard played Rhodey in the first Iron Man, he was re-cast as of Iron Man 2 and future movies, replaced by Don Cheadle. 11:50 Tony's head getting crushed would have made for a very different movie, I'll give you that.
I am sometimes surprised at how many people miss Anton Vanko's name on the blueprints at the beginning of the movie. I guess it is just a name with no real context at that point, which is why they show it again and have Fury give that whole exposition later.
"The Shield Guy" is Agent Phillip Coulson. You've already seen him in a couple of MCU movies. He's kind of an important guy. He is one of Fury's main agents. There are a few short videos, all available on youtube, that are called Marvel One-Shots. The first is "The Consultant", which is set after the events of "The Incredible Hulk" and "Iron Man 2". The next is "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor's Hammer", and as the name implies, it is set just before the events of "Thor". "Item 47" happens after the events of "The Avengers". "Agent Carter" takes place one year after the events of "Captain America: The First Avenger", but should be watched after "Item 47". The final One-Shot is "All Hail The King", which follows the events of "Iron Man 3". Please do not watch them out of order, or before the movie they are supposed to follow. One other thing, be sure to check for the run-time before you watch. Several are available in both full length versions and severely cut down versions. You'll want to watch the full length versions. Each of these give you more background information into the characters and what is going on in the MCU up to that point. They are all considered canon.
You guys ask all the right questions! Also note that Everytime Tony encounters something he wasn't expecting, he improve the Iron Man in the next version of the suite. From his experience with whiplash he will prepare for electricity for upcoming battles.
In the first Iron Man movie, Terrence Howard played Rhodey, Don Cheadle from there on out. The reason was MONEY i.e. a Salary Dispute. Robert Downey, Jr.'s (RDJ) salary increase a lot for the 2nd movie, so Rhodey's salary was cut. RDJ had nothing to do with it.
While Iron Man is a superhero Colonel James Rhodes go by the codename war machine while on missions for government. The kid in the Iron Man mask is Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man. There's a theory that Peter's parents were killed during the Stark expo so Tony's been following monitoring his life ever since then. Ivan vanko is a mixture of two different Iron Man villains with one being whiplash and the armor he wore at the end was called the crimson Dynamo armor which was built to specifically to defeat the Iron Man suit. Which is why it took both Tony and Rhode together to beat Ivan vanko. The main villain was Justin Hammer because Ivan will remain in jail and wouldn't have the resources to build his drone army. So pepper actually defeated the main villain.
I’m not sure if the kid in the Iron Man mask is Peter Parker by all rights it probably is but until it’s confirmed to be kid Peter Parker it’s just a rumor/theory that has been going around in my eyes at least
@@OmegaS-117 Originally it was just a kid, but I'm pretty sure it's a retcon. Not mentioned in the films, but cool thinking that was Peter. He's also the right age for Peter during this film.
I enjoy watching others on their MCU journey!! Have to say your reactions are a TAD over edited for example the " Christie did quite a spread on Tony and Phil Coulson scenes like when he grabbed the Captain America shield clock thing etc. Other than that, Cool! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Agreed on both counts! I will *never* have the joy of watching these movies for the first time again. But the next best thing is reaction channels. I realize they have to edit for copyright purposes but missing some of the high marks can be disappointing.
@@testfire3000 Yes the actual meat and potatoes one would actually REACT to! Some do it perfectly like the channels; Popcorn In Bed , Jen Murray and Dawn Marie are my top 3 reactioners!! ☮️
21:16 I think after his battle with Stane he made the suits to run on a separate arc reactor than the one in his chest so if there was a power issue it wouldn’t effect his heart.
I feel like you guys will like the Captain America movies more, I do anyway also every MCU movie has a post credit scene or two, it’s also better to watch them in release order, so next is Thor
@@chruspedetsen6227 Release order does match the time line what do you mean, it makes WAY more sense for story purposes AND they don’t get spoilers for MCU stuff intended for later on, if it was watched in chronological order things would be spoiled for them, plus that’s how the story unfolds
The ex wife wasn´t crap that much, just Rhodey didn´t know how to use her, if he used her from the high sky so she could reach proper speed she would be realy deadly.
I like this movie... but... Tony isn't really dying for any good reason in this movie. He could literally just plugin his electromagnet chest device into a (long) corded wall outlet... or like... lug around 1-2 car batteries on a cart if he needed more mobility. Unless for some reason (I guess) that the shrapnel is so close to his inner heart that he needs a super-super-strong magnet to just stay alive 20 minutes. Perhaps that hour in Iron Man 1 when he had no Arc reactor.. the shrapnel inched closer and closer and was after that point like... he's now like 5 minute away from dying at any time if he loses charge and not just charge but a massive charge.
The reason Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard as Rhodes is because Terrence Howard gave away the plot to THIS movie on a late night talk show. So, they fired him and replaced him with Don Cheadle. Great reaction, by the way. Hope you do all the MCU movies. New sub.
Man I can't stand your reaction y'all are so annoying calling Rhodes stupid when iron man was drinking and playing with a weapon like its a toy when its not
Which is greater, Audiences losing their minds over a change of actors Ironman/HULK, Or people screaming for a reboot of new actor's playing the roles of present actors.....?
