I don't understand how people can say that our generation doesn't produce good meaningful music anymore. These words , that voice, that guitar. I mean this music puts me back together when I've been broken for so long. It helps me , i can literally feel the warmth in my soul from this. Music has been my literal therapy after a year of depression and sadness so overwhelming I still worry I may never find a way out, but when I listen to music like this i truly feel like I can be okay again, music can become such a personal thing for people. We all experience it differently but love it just the same.

Former North Carolina State University basketball coach Jim Valvano, as he was dying of cancer, gave a speech at the ESPY Awards. In it, he suggested that we should be moved to tears (of joy or appreciation) by something every day. I thought of Coach Valvano today as I shed tears while watching and listening to this beautiful song.

I love the driverless pickup truck as a metaphor for faith in the unseen. Every one of the characters looks at the empty cab in disbelief at first, then takes a leap of faith into the back, seeming to say "don't know where this is going, but ANYWHERE is better than here". Because they are all lost in one way or another, and it becomes understood thoughout the journey that with a little faith, it will take them where they are supposed to be. they also learn that the journey is the whole point, not where they will end up. This is masterful visual storytelling- no surprise when you consider that Sam Beam was a film professor at a university in Florida before deciding to focus his energy on I & W full time. Absolutely love this man's art, all of it!

Ooooh....I thought they all died, but the video didn't show their deaths, just the driverless car picking up all the spirits. (Girl gets lost and dies in the woods, kids die from explosion at that abandoned building, and the older guy didn't survive the fight he was in).

I hear this song and close my eyes. I can se a party with my wife and kids, my cousins and Aunt and uncles. My mom is there even though her a d her brother are already gone. And there's so much love. The food is good and the sun is setting. There is pain, but it's well overshadowed by peace and happiness. The sun is setting on my backyard where we all sit around a table and dance when we feel like it. My dogs are running around begging for table scraps and pets. Even dogs of mine from the past that aren't with us anymore. The food is good. It's a beautiful life.

Like your favorite sweater; Sam's music is familiar, cozy and comforting - yet changes subtly over time, with use and loving wear. It happens in a way you don't see from one day to the next. It is perceivable only when observing in long retrospect. fabulous song, great video.

I love Sam so much, the music video actually reminded me of a Rumi poem. “Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn't matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again , come , come.” -Rumi. All these people from different backgrounds come together and can be happy on a new journey together. They all seem lost and may not have much in common but they all gather and embark on something beautiful, it doesn't matter what they've done or who they were, they can be happy on this new path, together.

Love Iron and wine. They are one of the few bands that writes because they just love music. It's not always about money, sometimes it's about healing people. Its amazing how good this guy is. The RU-vid algorithm brought me here after listening to Gregory Isakov's cover of Sam Beam's "The Trapeze Swinger". I always knew of Iron and Wine but this is the first one of Sam's songs that really floors me. What a great song and performance.

The song with the flamenco dancers just popped up in my feed so I came out to listen to some other music and landed on this. My god. I just started bawling. is this normal? After two years and losing the only small community I had, looking down the barrel of a major move... This song resurrected all that love and ache and even maybe some hope. I'll be looking for this pickup truck, to hop in with all my friends, old and new. Forever.

I was watching "New Amsterdam" and this song played as I am one of those baby boomers who sometimes mistakenly feels like we have the best music and we do in many ways, artists like this prove me wrong. The sad part is because a song like this does not get air time I don't hear it until it is played on a series or in a film or my child introduces me to it..GOD I love it what a great song which is going to make me listen more to this band..

I used to listen to iron and wine with my brothers. We bonded over his music more than anyone else's music. Now we all live in different parts of the U.S. thanks for bringing me back to a time long ago that otherwise is impossible to visit.

Wow that was an intense emotional response to this song I just had. Haven't listened to Iron and Wine in a while and then I find this treasure! Sam Beam's music made me finally decide to pick up and try to learn guitar 11 years ago and I've stopped for a couple years now. But this has reinvigorated my old passion. My first cover I ever uploaded was his song Fever Dream. Time to learn a new Iron and Wine song!

Michel,,wonderful,inciteful observation. Lyrically this song is poetry,,,,2.5 million views,I can tell you that 100 or more are mine,beautiful song,,music,good music has an inherent quality,it possesses something that moves us,gives us joy or heartache,,, sadness,,laughter It has a way of conjuring up memories recent,or long past. Music can take you to a specific moment in your life,,,is it not interesting that a song once written and sung out to the world,is forever etched in stone,,,,and can mean so many things to so many different people,,,,I've went on to much,,your comment is relevant,and honest. I also have wondered why songs that speak of friendship,community,love,sharing, giving,relationship,,,get little or no play,, And like you said,,,the mindless,simple,clatter,noisy,material that is widely,incessantly played,drowns out and leaves no space for songs such as this one.

i met sam beam in chicago. around 2006. pitchfork music fest at union park h was playing. However my girlfriend at the time nd i were walking to some bar form our hotel. we saw this two people sitting in a cafe on the sidewalk of a hotel. she said, "it's him". I looked and he had incredibly long hair and i wasn't convinced right away. it looked like him, but since we were walking toward them anyway i figured we'd know in a minute. as we walked up i kinda wide eyed him. he open his eyes wide in a "wtf, stop that, how do you like it?" kinda way. i knew it was him then. i said, "sorry man, she said it was you but i had to see the eyes." he laughed. i tried to keep it short. i know better than to bother people like that, but i told him how much i appreciated his music. as did she. he was gracious. we told him our names. the next day at the show i brought my guitar and a sharpie. when i got his attention i asked if he's sign. he said sure. the security passed it to him. he asked if it was a Brandon with an a or an o. he remembered. i hope for good reasons. a girl yelled, "it don't matter." he said, "yeah not to you." good guy. he's made my life for a long time a better one.

I had a thought. When I die and if there is a heaven, I would think that the place I get to spend eternity in is where Longmire's cabin is. That place at Valles Caldera in New Mexico is so utterly beautiful.
