IW 396 here retired ....it dont matter where you come from..Ironworkers all the same ...work hard...talk shit..get the job done...keep up the good work work brother and hope to see more vids
I'm not with a union. I'm not an iron workr but i would never be non-union anything. I missed my opportunity to be an iron worker. I'm 48. Too old for that, but man, what a cool job. I am wondering, if plumbing or pipefitting would be good for an older guy like me. Iron working you have to be young to get the practical expertise, and condition the body to that type of energy and mobility demands. Even if i were in Olympic condition a 48 year old body is too old for it. Damn would have been cool to be one.
Very cool, wouldn't mind some narration or text on what you were doing or why. Orange X's on the rivets and they were still there etc. (the other steps) etc. Something you could never get from TV.
Interesting. It looks like those are functionally the same as the pins which seized on the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland, fracturing the truss end links and almost causing a disaster. It's a very similar suspension bridge built in the 1960s. They rebuilt the truss ends to be supported on a bearing pad (attached to the tower) below the truss, so that it's fail safe.
Does have the parallel suspended spans but hard to tell cause most of thevideo seems like its facing south if it were DMB but there's no refineries on the Delaware side seen and obviously not philthadelphia skyline...
Standing on top of a railing with your butt hanging over 100- 150 feet of air! You ironworkers are something else! Yes, I know you were tied off, but! Good thing somebody has iron balls for iron work!
The soles are made to grip the steel when they are walking up the I beams. Just like roofers wear cougar paws. The soles are super soft and grip the shingles so they can walk on stepper roofs.
What is the big idea with the awful sound on this video? Were you trying to make it absolutely terrible? Do you have a version without added musical noise?
Why would want to work for a union when you could work for yourself and make way more money for doing the same thing unions only look out for there best interest making money while you do the work fuck that bullshit work for yourself and make double why wouldn't you?
There's got to be a better way to spin that nut on. Maybe try mounting a small rubber wheel to the end of a drill or impact and you could spin it on by holding it up to it
my guess is fewer tools, fewer things to drop, it doesn't look particularly hard to spin. getting it off, that looked like a different story. i was wondering how he was going to hang on to it.
Don't disparage these ironworkers. Ima an engineer and I have a lot of respect for their ability to crawl around steel structures and perform necessary maintenance. It's not easy or a job for stupid people.
