Stupid Chinese design. They could of make a slot on the side to lock the bar in place. So it will be ready to work out of the box. That is like buying a microwave without the rotating glass tray! The thing probably made from recycle steel. It should be around $50. Thank you for the great reviews!

I am going to modify mine to make it less cumbersome. It has potential and agree it should have some out of the box improvements. Thanks so much for watching.

Has anyone used this and the Harbor Freight Central Machinery 30 in equivalent? Is the Ironton one worth the extra $20?

I really don't think there is much difference in the two. If you pick one up, I would recommend this video on modifying it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GP0gL5aiux4.htmlsi=MhUMGQHP2Smsdmk8 Thanks for watching.

I looked at one of those once and couldn't figure out how it was supposed to work.. The missing C clamps were the key. Now I know! thanks Gene!

Hi Gene. What a really handy tool to have, and you can never have too many tools! Looks well thought out and really easy to use. Can't see the price, sold out according to amazon. Looking forward to your next project. Cheers, Roy.

nice looking Metal brake, I don't really like the design though, I tried bending a sheet of metal 0.016" thick and the pressing plate was bowing in the center and everything was coming all out of alignment. it's not this exact metal brake, but one similar in design, personally I like the slide it through a slot and bend along the marks on the sheet of metal, having to clamp down a plate of steel, just to bend the metal, not the greatest in my opinion.

@@PinkslipDaddy, I would agree with you. Too clunky with the C clamps. So I modified it. Here is a link to that video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GP0gL5aiux4.htmlsi=2ywIxiXLuAjMAT7A Thanks for watching.

I really don´t understand why they didn´t made holes and clamps for the upper bar, this would make the tool 500% better and cost 5 more bucks.

I totally agree. This made this brake in to a really useful tool. Thanks so much for watching.

@@DIYGene Fortunately there are other brakes on the marked (at lest here in Germany) one can buy off of Amazon which already have those functions for 100 bucks. The only uncertainty I still is, what´s the thinnest area I can create. I need to bent a U channel, the U part should be no larger than 60mm. So if the upper clamp bar is wider than 60mm this would be not possible, hope you understand what I mean. Most other tools on the marked have wider bars.

@@sierraecho884, your right. You need almost a flat bar rather than an angle iron as the top of the brake. But I bet you could modify one for that.
@sierraecho884

@@DIYGene It´s not as easy, I mean I am sure one can modify anything, there are people who can build their own CPU or whatever however in my case I don´t have the space nor do i have a welder. My main tool is my engineering degree, my CAD machine and a 3D printer in my office. This is why I was looking for a small portable sheet metal brake in the first place xD There is also a break even point where modifying an item is more money and time spend than simply buying a finished one.

Very true. But if you were to change out the angle iron with a u Channel iron with sides lower than 60 mm I think you would maintain the strength and integrity. Then use the same method I used in the video. No welding needed. Just a thought.

Hi Steve, I just used the green and bright yellow along with white from a set of acrylics made by Craft Smart. I think you can by them from Michels or on Amazon. Here is a link to them on Amazon. amzn.to/3n5zkjN I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
