Planting in 2019 is getting closer to wrapping up. We are on our last few fields of soybeans and the one that we are working on in this video has been been farmed for 25 years due to being in a CRP program.
I take the Massey Ferguson 4880 over to this 45 acre chunk of ground and start bringing it back to crop production ground. The ground needed to be worked up twice and then hit with a final pass of the McFarlane Reel Disc. We got a good start on working up the ground but then it got dark. Over night it rained and we had a full sized grave to dig as well as a cremation grave to dig. By the end of the day the ground dried up enough and we were able to go back to working up the ground.
On the final pass with the Reel Disc, my brother, Cooper, got too close to a wet spot and got stuck. We had to unhook the White disc and get chained up to the Massey Ferguson 4840. The tractor would not pull out when it was hooked to the Reel Disc so we had to unhook it and pull it out separately. Once unhooked, the tractor pulled out easily. The Reel Disc needed to be pulled backwards so we chained it up and pulled it backwards. After wiggling the tractor back and forth for a little while, we were able to pull it out. Everything went back to normal operation until my disc became unhooked from my tractor. Cooper came to the rescue and helped me hook the disc back up. On my way across the field on that same path, I ran out of diesel fuel. Cooper came to the rescue again, but I had to hike half mile across a field, get the fuel truck, fill the tank, bleed the filters, and then finish my last round in the field.
Cole The Cornstar, aka Cole, is a 4th generation family farmer from Central Iowa. Cole promotes agriculture by filming his day-to-day adventures with his Dad and brother on the farm. His vision is to teach people what goes on during day to day farm operations. Cole's mission is to prove the American Dream is not dead and be a megaphone for agricultural education and innovation, from technological advances in farming equipment to conservation practices.

Came across your adventure and it made me smile, spent the last 17 years living my dream in South West Minnesota in farm country. I had to move back to Michigan in the city due to medical issues with my husband.. I miss my little farm an my farm friends, the farm talk, and tractor rides.. thanks for letting me watch your journey in the mist of my sad times.. We bought a abandoned farm and did like you ( small scale tho) it was a labor of love.. And I can’t tell you how much I love that house!!

Amazing that this is only 2 years ago! The tractors, backhoe, disc's and all the equipment shown is CLEAN! Your farm is really a testimony to all the hard work and time you all have invested in your commitment to the farm, equipment, lifestyle and to each other! Everyday I look to see if there's a Cole the Cornstar video. This one came up and I'm glad to be reminded of how you all are growing and improving! We had a Massey 1805 with a new Cat 3208 complete motor at 245 hp. It had a 4 blade fan, I replaced it with a 6 blade fan for farming. I put the 4 blade fan on it in the fall for plowing snow. Never had any more problems with overheating after that. The 903 will run cooler than a 3208 on the same hp job. Good luck with your Massey!

I’m from SC and my dad farmed a small farm. 62 acres. Had cows, sheep, trained his own sheep dogs, a horse, chickens. He’s been dead 24 yrs now. Land is leased with cows on it. Watching y’all work so hard makes me think of how hard he worked. He had a heart attack on his tractor and kept working. He finally got home and went by EMS to hospital. He later had open heart surgery. Farming is no joke. It will kick your butt. Y’all are to be admired on your work ethic. Do young and doing so much. Hope you make time to meet someone. Good luck!!!

We'd fill tractors be fore leaving for the field our schedule was never leave the shop with a partial tank.
