Its FUN....For me. just soooooooo self-indulgent FUN. I have such a good time, every time I pick up a guitar. I can't believe I missed this much fun, all my life. I LOVE every challenge. Bar chords are killers but Im intent on mastering them and having FUN beating them at their own game! Watching videos of 5 year old children in NORTH KOREA play dreadnought guitars convinced me, if they can, so can I.

Great video, I agree. I used to think natural ability was all there was in the arts - painting, drawing, music, etc. but as I've gotten older, I've realized that if I put some effort into it, I could become better at even things like drawing which I seemed to have no natural altitude for doing.

Yep. Even those with natural apitude (or "giftedness," if you believe in such a thing) only rise to the top after many hours of concentrated effort. There's a parallel saying in the business world; "It's funny...the harder I work, the luckier I get."

There is a great book on this subject called the "Growth Mindset". There is a tendency among "naturally talented" people to say they don't practice/try to improve at all when the actually do. In their mind, it is ok to fail if you don't try, but to try hard and fail is devastating to their self worth.

Yes - hard work on guitar will always see results- but just like anything there are the amazing naturally talented people who become the best with the same hard work- I've seen a few of these guys over my years- Some people are creative geniuses and others not- I'm no guitar genius but I still love playing my hero's songs and I thank God for the best in the world

@RU-vidHandlesAreMoronic so you don't believe in a God given gift when I was 3 mom and dad gave me a plastic trumpet the first song I played was taps that is when I found out my brain worked differently from most I played for 3 or four hours on it fast forward I got a guitar I tried and tried to play something put couldn't play so I quit fast forward agian and I found out that if you don't know the tune you will not play anything I have heard people beat around no the guitar and think they are playing the song they were singing I have a friend that played the guitar but he thought he was playing a song but it didn't sound like any song I have ever heard so one day he ask about a harmonica I told him how to get started I told him where to go and get tabs but he always said he came read music so I said if you have the tone in your head you will play

"Natural" talent is typically a mystical universal click that occurs via happenstance. E.g. a ton of 1950's kids were "naturally" talented on electric guitar from a lifetime of playing with connector toys and developing precision touch based memory with their fingers that translated eerily to the light precision touch. Add to that classical music more common in the mainstream mediums of the day, like movies, radio etc. And "natural" talent develops. Beyond that, a freak of nature rarely occurs and is known more as a phenom in a category rather than "talented."
@misteramerica3610
@misteramerica3610 5 месяцев назад
Versatility is the main difference, wheras a person can be above average in several similar skillsets a phenom is so in tuned with one, that it doesn't easily translate to others.🤔

I do believe in talent, but it's not the "be all end all". I do believe that some people have have a genetic predisposition for a certain activity. IF they happen to discover it AND also have a interest in the activity that drives them to practice intensely doing it, then they'll can become so good at it that they leave everyone else in the dust. Examples of these people would be Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, Hank Aaron, etc. This doesn't mean that you can't become good, or even great without it. Dedication, practice, discipline, determination, etc. is by far and large, the most important ingredient. But every once in a while someone comes along that is special and nudges is bar up another notch.
@gnoll1812
@gnoll1812 5 месяцев назад
I dont think you can say talent doesnt exist, obviously dome people are going to naturally be better at some things than others. That being said, talent does not and never will beat out hardwork and determination. In fact a lot of people who have a natural inclanation towards something tend to give up easier when they hit a rut than those who put in the work to get there.
@yourguitarsage
@yourguitarsage 5 месяцев назад
But I did just say it 😜. If you mean being born with the talent, let me know if you can spot any babies or toddlers who are going to do what EVH did. 👊🏻
@gr637
@gr637 5 месяцев назад
You can have some natural ability, but when it comes to developing skills that take years of hard work, the initial natural propensity quickly disappears. Also consider that there are so many aspects of guitar playing; you could be a natural at one, eg fingerpicking, but suck at another, eg rhythm.

@@darrelwessel2453 No you won't. Not because of talent, but because of attitude. You can google how much did Eddie Van Halen practice on his guitar and you will see he practiced all day and night. Even slept with his guitar. You won't become Eddie because you don't have the passion, desire, or drive to do that. NOT because of talent.

god given talent is a proven fact what is a myth and a lie is this anybody can be a musician, play guitar become a rockstar, become a shredder guitarist, screaming vocalist all these scams these guitar teachers, musicians who sell lesson courses all say. Which it is time for the BBB to step in and demand them to change their claims or be fined just like they did with cheerios when they claimed health benefits that they could not prove outright. Here is how this works god gives you the talent, but he also has to destine you to be a musicians, or whatever it is. if not then you will hit permanent roadblocks/brick walls and you will never progress any further. But this does not mean those given the talent by god and destined by god to be musicians don't have to go out and work hard and hone the talent they were given. and just as god give you the talent he can also take it away. This attitude or mental state of you can do anything or be anything you want if you believe and work hard at is is godless, it is blasphemy. it is basically saying you do not need god or others to do stuff or be something like a musician. Fact is without talent from god and god destine you to be whatever it is, you can work 24/7 7 days a week for 50 years and still will not progress. you will be just wasting your time. what you need to do is quit after 1 year of trying. then go find what god wanted you to do and become. whether it is something you hate or something that is not a good as being a musician. You do not want to waste 20+ years of trying to be a musician and knowing that you were not given the talent by god and was not destined to be a musician but your trying anyways cause you believe these fools who claim no you do not need talent you need to believe, work hard and manifest it and it will happen. Manifesting is a scam just like this belief of you can do anything if you put your mind to it and work hard. It's is total B.S. and that is the stone cold brutal absolute truth in the form of verbal razors. whether people want to believe that truth or continue to live in Mr. Roger's Neighborhood's land of make believe and waste all their time for nothing. For me i realized after foolishly spending about 15 years believing the delusional lie of talent does not exist and you can be anything and do anything you want if you believe and work hard at it. Took me 15 years to realize that was B.S. and i realized if god does not give you the talent does not destine you to be a musician or whatever, then no matter how much you believe and how hard you work. you never will achieve that. So talent is real and the statement you need to be born with talent is a proven actual factual statement.

Obviously, people have differing levels of innate abilities. Just as some people have higher levels of intelligence or physical dexterity than others. However, more often than not, the concept of, "talent," seems to be used as a rationalization for why those who can do something, "can", and why those who can't, "can't." It's just an advanced form of sour grapes. Get to work.
