Is 10 point tracking really worth it? (VRChat) 

i recommand use tundra tracker for more than 3 point tracking, way cheaper, better , lighter. and on super budget option, slimeVR, on cheapest IMU set, with proper tunning, it is as good for normal activities and chilling which is what 99% ppl do 99% the time in vrc anyway.

Tidbit - SlimeVR's are an open source full body solution utilizing IMU's instead of SteamVR tracking. At the time of writing they are available on preorder; the with scalable options to include 10pt tracking option at just 295 USD+S/H. They don't offer the same degree of accuracy as SteamVR tracked solutions (Centimeter grade accuracy vs millimeter grade accuracy), however they are incapable of being occluded (Throw your blankets on, wear them under your sweater and sweats!) but instead introduce another problem entirely; drift. Each SlimeVR (Or any IMU based tracker) with experience drift over time, deteriorating the tracking quality and accuracy to the point of being unusable, it's quick and easy to recalibrate though you'll definitely have to recalibrate every so often to correct any drift. Note: I'm not typing the dimensional data even though I have it. Requires assembly. HaritoraX system has an advertised 10 hour battery life, Bluetooth operating range. Tidbit - HaritoraX is a closed source IMU based solution, offering all the same consumer level benefits and disadvantages as SlimeVRs albeit with a much more intrusive setup to wear while playing VR. HaritoraX utilizes Bluetooth to communicate with your PC instead of a dedicated backhaul which introduces the most latency of any of the available body tracking solutions, your enjoyment mileage will vary from person to person who have different tolerances to latency. Base kit doesn't offer hip specific tracking. The IMU's use some fancy Japanese Wizard magikry to estimate the foot rotation and position. I currently use 6 Vive trackers with my Valve Index and have 2 base stations. I dance a lot so having a chest tracker is important since hip movement isn't separated from chest movement without (and dancing is all in the hips!). In addition to that, I usually have two trackers on upper legs (for knee tracking). But I still am not sure if elbow or knee tracking is more important. It's pretty likely I'll get two more trackers and another base station in the future. FBT is a rabbit hole, beware!

I think my main take away from this video is that while 10 point tracking looks amazing, Im perfectly fine with my 5 point tracking :3

The "test" would've been so much better if you did similar movements. For example, first I will perform jumping jacks, next I will nae nae, etc.

Thanks. I have 9 point tracking and it is a bit different than what you describe here. Instead of a tracker on each knee, I have one on my chest. For the dancing I do, I feel it is a good option. It allows shoulder and chest movement to be isolated from the arms. It gives more control over the upper body than the default IK provides without a chest tracker. Next step for me is the knee trackers for the complete setup.

Watching this vid since I just got 6 point tracking. Trying to figure out a way to position my elbow tracking but this vid is very educational. Maybe thinking of also getting thigh tracking in the future but For now I’m okay

you can turn on leagacy calibration which makes it a static tpose statue in the big settings menu in the tracking ik catagory just check the box

3 base stations is probably enough as having 4 would give you very little increase over 3, you just have to place them at slightly different heights with the front most one being higher and the side/backish ones being lower, and you will basically cover all the dead zones.

i already order mine really excited for it rn i like to dance alot but sometime my model doesnt do the movement that i did irl...i really hope getting 10 point will help

Nice showcase, I tried this and went back to using just 3 trackers purely due to comfort. In a lot of ways it's a great addition to dancing, however for me it's just detrimental because falling on one of these things HURTS, for my style I actually felt like they limited me more than when just using 3 trackers, I had more movement in terms of how much is being tracked, but less movement in terms of what I could do irl without hurting myself. It's a hard pass for me until someone makes tracking suits or some sort of super slim trackers that wont be hard solid objects like vive and tundra trackers are.

Honestly tracking the chest and elbows seem to make the biggest difference, but i didn't notice a huge difference in your knees.

ide prolly only get 10 point tracking for mocap but in a game its rarely noticeable

I'd like to ask, how on earth is your tracking so good?! I've been trying to troubleshoot my tracking issues for almost 6 months but to no cause. Would you be able to help via Discord? Yes it feels more fluid to have 10 point tracking, sure. Is it worth it in the long run when new trackers/technology comes out and you choose to upgrade ALL those extra ones? Economically, no. And since OpenVR Smooth Tracking, normal FBT is seems better than ever.
