Is my tiller too big for my tractor or what size should I buy? In this video I show you how well my compact Mahindra Max 26 XLT turns over the soil with a 5 ft tiller here in Iowa. I hope you all find this informative or helpful if you are in a situation where you need some help or guidance!

I have a 26 hp Kioti tractor and I’m running a 6 foot tiller in rocky soil with no problem at all. 👍

Be thankful for your soil! My Kubota 3301 struggles with the 5ft here in some of the Mississippi and Louisiana clay/silt/mud. My Mahindra 1626 required a 4ft... I'm leaving tire tracks👣 Thanks for sharing 🙏

I have a 1025r and run a john deere 655 tiller which is 55" so ~ 4.5'. it does great with my little 1025r.

I've enjoyed your videos and they've helped with the learning curve of my new Max 26! Have the backhoe, forks and a grapple and love how life has become so much easier with projects. I will have some brand new tilling coming up but not sure if it's going to be worth the purchase or rental makes the most sense. I'll be doing one garden a little smaller than yours.

@@eriksalmonberry4553 I bought the Worksaver mini grapple. Well built and the design doesn't weight much, lift capacity is my main concern. It keeps the load close to the pins and allows you to pick up heavy loads. I'm using it for mainly firewood but have picked up very large boulders for a wall I'm building and it does a great job!

Nice video... good work. BUT.... I will say this. I would still recommend a perspective tiller buyer to understand that there is no one size fits all solution. Soil type, soil consistency, virgin land or existing plot, reverse or forward rotation should ALL play a roll in purchase decision making. For those with fencing and gates, dont forget to take opening widths into consideration as well. Back to the original topic,,,, the answer is more a "maybe" IMO. If you are dealing with a virgin plot of clay or hardpan in reverse rotation, you will be WISHING you stuck to the 5hp per foot rule. If most of your usage is forward rotation and cultivating an existing plot, stepping up that extra foot will most likely never be an issue for you. Again, when buying, its about YOUR machine, YOUR location, YOUR current/future usage. Bigger isnt ALWAYS better.... 🙂

I think its helps you having the hst transmission and forward rotating tines. I have a counter rotating tines on a woods 5'. I can tell you it will really make my mahindra 2555, 55 engine horse power work hard. Think I would be better off with hst as even low gear is too fast for tilling.

Like you mention here, there are many things that really affect what works for you. I could see how a counter rotation tiller could rob HP, thanks for tuning in!

I have an almost new little Kubota BX 1880 and mine runs a little 48" tiller just fine as long as I drive supper slow and make the first run with the tiller only half way down and re till it at full depth. I'm 69 years old retired and have all the time I need to get it done. Thanks

Which brand tiller and what did it run you? I'm just now looking at buying a tractor and strongly considering same one as yours. Haven't priced the tractor out yet. Just wondering if aftermarket tiller is better /cheaper than OEM. Thanks

It is the Mahindra mtill150 tiller (rebranded Korean built product). I got a deal on buying 3 implements, but i think it was like $2400 outright if i remember correctly. Tillers in general and a pretty penny if buying new. I did get a $500 discount for buying 3 implements, Mahindra does a power package deal from time to time. Thanks for stopping in!

you don't mention the single pass depth of cut your tiller has .... given the width of the tiller and the pto hp , i'm going to say your at 4 -5 inches deep in a single pass . for example i have a 54" wide tiller , that does around a 12" cut in a single pass that requires at least 40 hp to run , 50 is better . the tines rotating assembly with half worn tines , is just over 28 inches tall ... a couple inches taller with fresh tines .
