I agree with you. The certificates or certifications are just for added knowledge. People who excel in anything digital (digital marketing, social media advertising, social media mgt) are people who take social media as a hobby. They are always creative with content, and they have the highest engagements on their pages.

100% agree with that. It is not so easy in the end to work on things with knowledge alone, you've got build some experience behind it.

@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical Год назад
Thanks for the kind words, Beverly! Well, it depends on the type of vision you have for yourself at the company you want to work for. For example, a blue chip company may want an MBA but they will ask for that and some may even sponsor you to get on that (whilst working for them). These are the legacy companies I'm talking about so usually in the Fortune 500. I have to say that things are wildly different in the sense that there are more ways of gaining experience and building a foundation for yourself. If you've got the experience to backup your application then you'll find there are businesses that will still employ you without the degree. It's slowly becoming normalised.

The direction I'm taking is right or wrong, and I want to know the scope and career chances after completing this two-year MBA programme. What are the skills do I want to develop throughout this period of study?
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical Год назад
Wish you the best of luck on your journey first of all! In terms of skill I would list them as follows: - Critical thinking - Strategic ideation - Implementation (execute on the strategies) - Iteration (improve based on results) - Experience, experience, experience! I left experience till last so you can understand that most other things will come from studying other marketing strategies, creating your own in a live environment (for a business) and then test it out to see what the results are. If you can rinse and repeat that, you should really develop the skills as you study and increase your career prospects tenfold.

Hey! I am currently in my final year of this integrated course of Bpharm+MBA. I was really interested in the marketing side of my course, specially the digital marketing counterpart of it. And I decided to apply to some Digital marketing/marketing and also few business analysis and consulting MSc courses in UK. In terms of experience I'll be having a 4 month internship in the commercial excellence function, at a leading pharma MNC. Would love to know about the possibility of applying for jobs over there later on with this kind of like experience and also, any sort of internship experience in the relevant field of marketing that I'll try to achieve while studying over there. Sorry for the long question but would definitely love to know about your opinion.
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical 2 года назад
First off congratulations on moving ahead with getting into marketing. The fact that you are already looking at getting involved in something whilst reducing the risk by still staying on your course is great - props to you 👌 Now as for the internship, it will really be up to you to secure the internship - unless the university you'll be attending has the contacts or scheme to hook you up with a role. It's still a great job market but it is super competitive. You could probably even look at securing remote internships, maybe that is something you can consider? I can't guarantee that you will because it's in the Pharma industry and I don't know much about it, but I'm sure with a little bit of research you could find something.

Hi Neil, really insightful video! I currently have a degree from a Russell group uni in a non marketing discipline and am interested in a career in digital marketing. I am interested in potentially studying an apprenticeship in marketing but have also looked at masters. The apprenticeship route appeals to me because I'd have hands on experience working in a marketing environment, I'd be getting paid, would have a years worth of marketing experience on my cv and would gain a qualification at the end. However, I was wondering, if I did an apprenticeship instead of a masters in marketing, do you think it would hinder me in any way as an apprenticeship is at a lower level than a masters degree? I have looked at masters degrees but I feel that an apprenticeship appeals to me more due to learning on the job and gaining work experience. Im also interested in being an entrepreneur in the future and running my own business, and therefore feel that the experience in marketing would also help me gain valuable skills. I was therefore wondering what your opinion is on doing an apprenticeship and if it potentially hinders me in any way due to it being a lower level than a masters. Many thanks and thank you for your video, it was really helpful!
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical Год назад
This is great! I do think the apprenticeship is probably the best way to go (just my opinion) because you would be earning, and getting experience (which is way more valuable than theory), plus you'll be learning theory on the job too. So technically it helps you cover all bases. Hope this helps and good luck on your journey! 💪

@@GrowthVertical Thank you for the reply :) Out of curiosity, would me doing an apprenticeship compared to a masters be of disadvantage in any way due to a masters being a higher level? E.g if an employer saw my cv with a years worth of marketing apprentice experience and another person who graduated with a masters, would a masters be of an advantage compared to an apprentice? Many thanks.
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical Год назад
@@Kntr111 I would say that the Master's would be somewhat impressive but your experience can be just as impressive as well. One doesn't show you can do the job (Master's) and one does (Apprenticeship). If you really care about the Master's then you can always do that on the side as a Part-Time course. I would say though, that a lot of people get into marketing without the Master's too. 👌

Hey, I have a question. I’m currently a philosophy major and I’m considering law and/or digital marketing. I’m fully funded through scholarship and have perfect GPA. Dean’s list every semester. For digital marketing, my options were to either minor/double major in Digital Audience or get a well known/international digital marketing certificate. Or I could do both. What do you recommend? If I were to double major, I’d just need to take 8 digital marketing classes (as opposed to 5 for only a minor.) and I would still be within the minimum credit hours to obtain one degree.(well in this case it would be dual degrees). Lastly, for my Philosophy major, I have the option to change it from Philosophy BA to Philosophy (Morality, Politics, Law) BA. Do you think employers in digital marketing would prefer one or the other-Which would look better along with the Digital Audience degree (if I add it as a double major)?
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical Год назад
I think if you get a double major it amplifies the strength of your degree for sure but it doesn't mean you will be better at the 'job' you're applying for. It depends on the industry you're going in - if it's to work at Digital Marketing roles within the Legal industry etc then it would be impressive to change your Philosophy BA, but if not then it doesn't make sense if it had an impact on future roles. Either way the fact that you are working on a double-major is impressive so of course that would be better if you pulled through with that (for first impressions sake). Hope this helps.

I'm interested in real estate and digital marketing. But I don't know which way to follow. I also want to study a course that would enable me work from home. I also believe digital marketing can be fused into real estate (selling properties). I need your advice pls.
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical Год назад
Hey! So I would say you won't actually know which one you prefer more until you try. You can always get a real estate license on the side and then do some courses on digital marketing for real estate after that. All this can be done whilst practising law right. If you don't want to do law and you're certain, then you can always do the two things above sooner and try to fast-track yourself by getting experience at a real estate agency or something? Have you explored the different ways you can get experience with it just yet?

Initially I was happy that I'll be doing master's in digi marketing at UK in University of Liverpool but now I'm in a conflicting state cuz people around me are saying its useless and worthless. They say that many are doing certificate courses and getting placed easily and it'll be difficult for me in the UK... I'm so confused 😢
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical Год назад
Have you considered the position that others around you may be in? I would say that if you want the 'university' experience then you could go for it. There are many transferable skills and life experiences you can gain from university such as adhering to deadlines, independence, improving social skills etc. Sure you can do this if you do general courses too. If your goal is to just get into digital marketing, then there are other alternatives such as doing courses, getting an internship and then getting placed into a job. The same can be for the university route, but it just takes a little longer since you'll be studying. Degrees aren't entirely useless as there are companies that look for it, and there are also companies that don't. Whether you want to go is entirely your decision. The UK is a competitive market but you can always get experience remotely before you ever move. Just a few different ways to think about it. Hope this helps. 👌

However, I do not have any working experience so far since I have never done any internship. Thus, do you think it will be a problem when I find a job within this industry? In your experience, do they really want you to have work experience? Also, what are your thoughts regarding Royal Holloway University for a Digital Marketing Masters degree?
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical 2 года назад
Great questions - note that the space is getting very competitive therefore I'd always say that some form of experience is really good to get onto a role. Some graduate schemes and internships are also getting competitive so I'd advise applying for a voluntary role or internship whilst studying. This way you'll have a theory and practical experience as well. Even if you show you're a self-starter by running your own projects on the side, it would strengthen your CV. Yes degrees opens doors to 'specific' kinds of jobs at 'specific' organisations, but it's not going to guarantee a job, remember that.

I've heard the course is pretty good but I can't speak from first-hand experience because I've not taken the PGP myself. I've heard from some people that the course is pretty decent. I think that's difficult to answer. I'm not qualified to tell you whether it is right or wrong but I can offer an opinion. It would make sense to do that if you want to experience life in the UK, want to gain experience in the UK and work for companies here. Mind you, you can still work for UK companies remotely (depending on the company). It probably wouldn't be the best move if you're just looking to get into digital marketing as there are a ton of courses out there where you can learn, and a lot of companies where you can get the experience (no matter the region). Hope this helps.

@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical 3 года назад
Great question Shubh - it entirely depends on what you want from the degree itself. Have you understood what result you're looking for at the end of the degree? Is it just knowledge? Do you want to learn the theory behind some of the strategies? Do you want it to open doors to work at bigger businesses i.e. the Fortune 500? There's a ton of things you can consider but it depends on why you want the degree in the end. If you provide a little more detail it may help understand your situation a little better.
@shubhsingh9168
@shubhsingh9168 3 года назад
@@GrowthVertical Thanks for your detailed reply. I would say a degree would be a way to make it easier for me to be employed at bigger corporations just like you mentioned. I personally think alot of the information taught on digital marketing in college is outdated by the time of graduation. So my plan includes self learning and practicing to supplement my degree. Do you think it’s a good plan to get into this degree and how important do you think it is to earn one in this field to work for big corporations
@GrowthVertical
@GrowthVertical 3 года назад
@@shubhsingh9168 You've certainly put some thought into it. You need to focus on supplementing that course theory with practical examples, so anything you learn you really want to be applying it. Maybe you can freelance in your spare time to do this. There are always plenty of people looking for interns and entry level volunteers. I would say a degree isn't required at all to join the field, but the larger corporations do rely on a screening process. This means they would go screen a bunch of candidate CVs (this can be automated and manual which is scary but unfortunately the case). It's more of a case of if you think it will open doors to the right corporations you want to work for then a degree may help. The degree will showcase you've managed to learn fundamentals, are organised, can work towards deadlines and know a high level view of strategy. Your practice will allow you gain experience, then you'll be a strong candidate together. In the end if you have results to show then that's the be all and end all. Does that make sense?

To be honest the location doesn't always matter these days because we're way more connected through the internet. It's one of the many wonders of digital marketing. Of course if you have noticed that the degree from overseas carries more weight elsewhere then it could be worth considering, but it comes with a price tag since you're then talking about moving for a year or two.

Having 6 years of experience in the first is not a weak feat. You could argue that you should continue down the experience route. The only way I'd see a PG and MBA being a good idea is if where you are heading (big firms etc) ask for those qualifications as a base criteria. If you're planning to work in the UK then remember you'll still have to make sure to secure a sponsored permanent role after your degree (heads up - can be quite competitive). Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Neil.

Only benefit to a degree is it might get you an interview slightly easier.

Agreed Sean, however it the flipside is that it does depend on the course. For example, my course included practical assessments - applying theory and strategy to a live business, pitching and implementing it. Those elements helped build real work experience through the application of theory. Those who are self-taught definitely have the upper-hand since on-the-job training & learning is far more valuable and accelerates the learning process. The major gem in having experience is that you're learning in a business environment which is the only thing you need for future careers and prospects. Thanks for the comment Sean and congrats on the 1st class! 👌
