Is Abruzzo Italy's best kept secret?

I'm always searching for a new and exciting location in Italy, one that offers the "Sojourn Trifecta" - spectacular natural wonders, a rich, intriguing history and amazing local culinary specialties.
I found all of this in the region of Abruzzo and because this incredible region is only 2 hours outside of Rome, a visit can be an amazing add-on trip!
On this day of exploration, I covered lots of ground and traveled many, many miles. I started in Navelli at B&B Abruzzo Segreto and continued to Ofena where I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Agristurismo Sapore De Campagna.
Afterwords, I traveled north to one of Italy's most stunning national parks; Gran Sasso national park and hiked to the top of a mountain with an unforgettable view of the mighty Gran Sasso - the tallest peak in the Italian Apennine mountain chain.

So sorry for your loss. My grandfather was a farmer from Monte San Giovanni Campano. He arrived in England 1900 and created a business and a family. He had to go back to be in Italian army WW1 and returned to England always hoping to return to Italy as he missed it very much. My father his son passed away at age 90 recently and unfortunately never visited his fathers hometown. I intend to visit as soon as lockdown allows.

I’m from another small, forgotten region of Italy: Basilicata. My father studied in Pescara (biggest city in Abruzzo) and he became linked to this Region. We have friends there and I love it, people are so kind and the fact that makes this region so amazing is that in the space of 20 km you come from the mountain to beautiful coastlines (it’s like the small representation of Italy)

I am Italian, but, before of that, I am Abbruzzese. I don't simply love my region, I deeply live it and I think it is a precious treasure which must be shown only to the right people, who can respectfully live it. A kind of massive tourism has ruined a lot of wonderful places in our nation and I hope Abruzzo could remain a bit of secret in some way: not a place that attracts less tourists but that attracts only the "right" ones. Apart of this personal thoughts, congratulations for the video, it is very very good!!

Since Abruzzo, especially L'Aqulia is surrounded by mountains, it is one of the most untouched, isolated areas in Italy. Inhabitants of Abruzzo are most genetically similar to the Romans than even the citizens of Lazio because of geography.

@@bitbugsbyte if you don't mind sir, I would suggest you to check properties around L'Aquila, Abruzzo's capital. In town the prices are much cheaper than anywhere else in Abruzzo, due to the 2009 earthquake. You might find properties in historical buildings for less than 90,000€. Should you be interested in properties in the countryside, I would recommend to search lands and houses in Capestrano, Ofena, Navelli, which are in L'Aquila province too. In this second area it's very common to purchase land for vineyards and olive trees. They are old fashioned villages at the feet of mountains, surrounded by the national parks. I live in a small village nearby L'Aquila and I am fixing my grandfather's old house, which is from the 16th century. I will never sell it as it was built by my grand grand grand fathers. But many properties are being repaired around my area. The province of L'Aquila is for countryside and trekking hiking and nature lovers. And it's at just 1 hour from Rome airports

We are traveling to Italy for our honeymoon and I very much want to visit Abruzzo. My fiance's family is from there and we are hoping to track them down. I am rolling the dice and I have booked a few nights at Francesca's place to use as our base. I'm hoping it's as wonderful as you say. The simple fact that you like out of the way places speaks volumes. Ciao!

In Italy we have such historycal, cultural, naturalistic and (of course) food treasures we not even ourselves are aware of. I've been here and there for work, holidays and military and found that's just too many to see in my Country. I had a friend sell an idea to discovery channel that became a show.Your camera work and production are so good you should try to do the same to HGTV. This was Awesome,,, My Grandparents on both sides are from Abruzzo, Provincia di Pescara, Kiete, and also Casbordino. I learned how to speak the Abruzzi dialect prior to speaking English,, as we resided upstairs from my Grandparents. What an awesome adventure it was listening to all the Italian stories,, some of my Grandparents would forget I knew the language and would say oodi mamamia,, I forget he understands everything,, as I would laugh and giggle at that. However I would not ever want to change a thing being brought up in an Italian Atmosphere.. Again Thanks for this video,, have now just subbed,, and am looking forward to much more. Have a Great Day, Peace and God Bless,, here in 2021.
