the big issue I have with Eufy/Anker is their lack of security awareness and their lack of urgency to remediate their security holes in their product lines. As far as AI goes, I believe Govee has just released their AI offering in their last firmware updates for their LED strings. Overall, great video as usual Chris.
I started cutting these apart like you did in your waterproof connections video. In general, the small extensions to get from one roofline to the next don't effect the functionality. I ran into a problem that I can't figure out. On one large peak, I cut the plugs off and daisy chained them together because the spacing between the sections with the plugs is different than the distance between the lights on the strand. That strand runs 30 lights and then stops and doesn't run through the remaining 9. It's one light past a splice so I don't think it's a bad connection. Is it possible it only works in 10 lights at a time? Should I add one more light on the end? Does the controller know where the plugs are? Do i need to add those back inline at 10 light intervals. Any suggestions that could point me in the right direction?
I wish Govee would add a “what it’s doing” function in the app like that. I hate having to be outside/at home to see what the display is doing. Having it do that in the app is awesome.
@@ChrisMaherDIY you should see what I’ve done to my mom’s house. She’s retired and loves bright colors. So now she has over 15 govee products on her house. I’ve had a blast sharing the LED bug in my family. lol. I bought a DJI mini 4 pro just to take drone shots of her house. lol. 😂
@ChrisMaherDIY Both Eufy and Govee could step up their game and allow you to upload a photo of the front of your home along with having the ability to draw on the photo where you would like to have the lights. This would allow you to have a great experience as you would be looking at your own home when trying out different lighting scenes. In addition, they could probably use some AI to allow you to upload a photo of your home via the app, prior to making a purchase and have it help you design the best layout for your individual home.
Hi Chris. I just purchased a set of these lights. In my case I need to tee off because of peaks on my roof line. Do you know if you can cut in the middle and tee off in two directions. Have you tried this with these lights. Thanks and look forward to your next video
Another great video Chris. How do you remove the lights and adhesive each time you demo a new version. I have some original Govee outdoor permanent lights I was planning on moving
I'm sure you had some govee lights outside the front of your house only a few days ago. Did you take them all down to put these up? 😅😅 If so, that's some insane effort!
Haha that's what I was thinking when he was installing them... wait, he actually took down all the govee ones and is now putting these up... that's dedication to the video. Wonder if he plans to keep one set installed ever? Ha
I like the effort too, but it it also creates some sort of problem. I just filled up my cart at Govee and just before I ordered it I thought, aren't there any competitors. Now I learn there're. @ChrisMaherDIY Can you give us an inside on what's decorating your house during the holidays?
I recently installed these on my house and in my experience so far, the AI tool feels like a useful gimmick if that makes sense. Hopefully they are able to refine it a little bit in future updates but overall it works pretty well. There have been some pretty basic inputs that have been completely off or the AI bot just couldn't do anything with but I have been mostly happy with the AI part of these. The non-waterproof power supply and controller just feels like a poor cost cutting choice. Waterproof components should just be a given with a permanent outdoor product and if they are now shipping a waterproof box if requested, it's clear they are learning their lesson for version two of these. I was also disappointed that there is no out of the box smart home integration, but that can probably be pretty easily pushed in a future update. I'm sure they wanted to get these out as soon as possible before Christmas and some things got left out. The warm white chip and being able to grab these for $100 less than basic Govee set is what pushed me to the Eufy lights and overall I've been happy with them so far. I think if all things were equal at the list price of $299 for both of them, I would have gone with Govee. I'm considering hooking these up to WLED, but I'm going to give Eufy a little bit of time to push an update or two to the app to see if it is really necessary. I'm already on the fence and a few relatively minor updates like smart home integration and refining the AI would probably make WLED a moot point with the general use case of these lights.
Man! I was just about to buy the govee outdoor lights. In your opinion if this was all you had planned for outdoor lighting which one would you go with???
Thanks for watching and great question! If you only think you would use them for the Warm White and some color around the holiday then I think you would be happy with these or the Govee Pro. It then would come down to cost. These are less expensive so at least for me it would depend on my budget.
@@ChrisMaherDIY thanks for the reply and your opinion. Which one represents true to life colors the best? My house is also blue, a lighter shade than yours. I know the color of the house will affect how the color actually looks from the lighting
@ChrisMaherDIY If I needed multiple strand to get around my house does the app work like Govee where I can sync three separate 100' strands? I do like the white and want to go with the Govee Pro, but I am hearing WLED doesn't work with the PRO and these options are wanted for possible future. Good videos and I'm glad I came across your channel
Anyone else let down that “Knight Rider” or “Centurion Cylon Mode” wasn’t entered as a command? Before starting the video, I was long-shot hoping “AI” meant it had the ability to tie into Eufy’s network cameras and have a couple lights FOLLOW anyone wandering the perimeter of the house. In the same vein, they squandered the opportunity to display lighting alerts if a set number of cameras detected motion. So many ways this could’ve elevated from clown show to a useful product.
What about the length? My house front has multiple Gables and I think I would need more than one kit. Can you sync them together or connect 2 units together?
As per Eufy... Each light string is 5m and can be connected to a maximum of 6 strings, totaling about 30m. If you need to adjust the length, you can connect or disconnect the strings as needed. By EufyHome in the United States on October 27, 2023
I'll try putting something together using these lights. Otherwise I did do a separate video on my favorite WLED animations and settings: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D_URUFJvLOo.htmlsi=P1vPqFQNQ3G-Tx0J
@@ChrisMaherDIY I actually asked this on your “Cutting, extending, and waterproofing GOPL-Walkthrough” video.. can you splice like these in parallel so that the patterns stay as programmed across sections that are “stacked” (one eve over another) so animations like a chasing effect would sync across the roofline?
Sorry for not getting to it! Just not enough hours in the day to keep up! So that's a great question and I plan on doing a follow up video on this hopefully that I'll get to this month still. I have not tested it out yet buy my guess is it should work but I for sure want to try it myself to see if it does.
@ChrisMaherDIY - I am also trying to figure out how to add beyond the 100ft using 2 kits. (I’m thinking it’d be very similar to adding a WLED controller like you did in your GOVEE video) … but with these Eufy lights, would you need a bigger power adapter? Would you recommend that (so all the lights are on one line) or installing 2 kits with the original power adapters and then sync them with a WLED controller?
