So, you're coming to Whistler to ride the world's best bike park, and you're wondering if you should set some time aside to Bike in Squamish. So then, you're probably aware of Squamish's reputation. It's real. It's earned. This place, is scary.
You might be asking yourself; "How hard is In-N-Out burger? How hard is Squamish mountain biking?" I too had these questions, and set out to see if a normal mountain biker like myself could survive Alice Lake.
The answer: Barely.
If you're looking for the best intro trails in Squamish, then check out Leave Of Absence, Rupert, Man Boobs and Pamplemousse. But If you want to step it up a notch, and love the idea of testing yourself against the world's best slab trails, then watch this video.
There is a reason the slabs of In-N-Out Burger and Dirk's Diggler draw the attention of Remy Metailler and Yoann Barelli. These things are steep, and FUN!

Thanks for chronicling a great summer! Just wait until the next time you ride 50 year Slabs or some Sedona sandstone, you’ll see for yourself how far you’ve come with you braking control! SLAY!!!!!!!! Your friend Wade

We've made two trips out to Alice Lake and Whistler. As regulars at Santa Cruz and the Marin chunk, there is an order of magnitude jump in gnar once you cross the border into BC. Alice Lake features would all be considered at least double blacks in Santa Cruz, if not Pro Lines. It's intense and leaves you mentally drained, terrified, and amped. Can't recommend it enough, but bring a spoon for the humble pie.

Hopefully, one day, I'll cross paths with you in Squamish, and we can ride. I am soo looking forward to riding these trails this summer for the first time ever. It's cool to see Remy encouraging others on the trail...he's such an advocate of the sport

You don't wanna ride with my slow ass, just ask Wade! Lol. Where do you normally ride? You have plans in the works for a Squam trip? We can't wait to get back!

Sorry to hear about the brakes. Amazing how much confidence you lose when you’re unsure about your stopping/slowing ability.

Thanks bud! I have had brake fade before, but nothing like this! What a crap spot for it too! Not fun.

Interesting comment about sensory overload... I definitely get that. Entrails is possibly my least favorite trail in Squamish!

I'll never forget the feeling of my rear brake going to the bar on me at Spirit Mountain bike park. Thankfully I wasn't on anything scary when it happened, but I rode the rest of the day on only the front brake since I didn't have a bleed kit in my car. Its so annoying that so many bikes come with Sram brakes. Of course all brands need maintenance, it just seems like the Sram stuff consistently fails at the WORST possible times.

Dude. Isn't that the worst? Bike Park Days with unreliable brakes is no fun! Funny thing is, I have always been a Shimano guy, but I swapped my XTs for these after they failed on me more than a handful of times!
