It does because there are no stakes. In AS7 they could win money, plus some of them had to content with several members of the fanbase being against them winning their respective seasons. In AS9 it feels more like a contractual paycheck thing, since there is no money to be made, and only a boost on their visibility. Also, the drama feels so out of place.
@@PureHoneyBoo Snatch Game she did better than Nina - it's arguable Angeria did better than her but she was one of the Top 3 for sure and got beaten by the 4th best. And the Realtor challenge Nina and Shannel 100% should've won - their critique was that it was one note and yet every group was one note. I think they were by far the funniest - Plastique was funny but Roxxxy was frankly not (I say this as someone who's rooting for Roxxxy) and Plastique's joke was far more one note than Shannel and Nina's. I think Nina and Shannel were definitely funnier than Plastique and Roxxxy and ALSO did a better job of selling the house which is like a cherry on top.

And that it was Jorgeous is just *chefs kiss* Like, girl was crying on stage bc she was getting meh critiques - and then changed into her own lipsync outfit... lol
ok but they literally brought up this exact point in the episode. you ALWAYS change into your lip sync look. it doesn't matter if you think you have a chance. it's drag race, you could be one of the worst in the episode and still win, so you have to be prepared
shannel's been good at all the challenges just not cracking top 2. Honestly it's a shame her biggest strength is hosting and audience interaction, a vital skill in drag that unfortunately just doesn't get represented in drag race challenges
At this point im seeing Roxxxy, Angeria, Gottmik and Plastique as top 4 probably. They seek to be the best set uo for it and getting the most story. Based on how they've been going it'll probably be a LSFTC with Mik and Plastique losing in round 1 leaving us with a Roxxxy and Angeria top 2 from which they can give the crown to whoever the fandom seems to favour (or just Roxxxy for posterity lol)

I was very excited for Roxxxy but first 4 episodes she didnt do great in the challenges, she did well in the commercial and roast but the most dissapointing aspect are her runways. So basic and boring, looking back at s5 i liked her looks more back then.
I was not. We don't need an All Stars every year, and I'm sick of queens coming back 3 times. Especially when there are those that the fans want who aren't even being called.
No hate to either queen, but I am really fed up with the producers this season. They are really pushing this whole Angie is delusional/shady/etc, when she's just there existing. It's giving "Microaggressions, the Rusical"
i'm so sorry that this season is turning out bad?? like this season with this cast had so much potential but it's not getting used, plastique being constantly fucking robbed and put into the back in the edit, roxxxy having a really strange edit and i'm continuing to dont understand if she is rushing for miss congeniality or she is the villain? angeria idk anymore abt her, jorgeous getting a badge for winning a mini challenge? this is too much ru paul's best friend race and this season it's being kinda boring. it had so much potential!
i agree. the potential is very much wasted for forced storylines and edits. however, the unpredictability is pretty much working in the productions favor. this season got sooo much hype for having a stellar cast and that wonderful promo, and the double premiere, but after that it just fell short.
i don't know if you've seen drag race uk season 5 but i think would be interesting knowing your point of view on it, because i believe you had a theory that DRUK repeats the pattern for winners based on the US seasons. apart from that, i feel that DRUK2 was so well received by the fandom that they kinda try to replicate that magic every season now...
It’s so weird to see, especially for someone like her. If you watch her Pit Stop appearance and interview with Joseph Shepherd, Angeria comes off very sweet and fun-loving. I really liked her more after those videos than I did on her actual season. I hope her edit turns around, because I’m not really big on the idea of Angeria Paris VanMicheals of all people as the villain of an All-Stars season.

@@santiagogarcia3369 None of those seasons have had any sort of cultural impact. Name 3 or 5 big memes/iconic fights/moments from those seasons. I can only think of like maybe 2. Most good, polished drag queens have either already been on the show or don't want to do it, so now we get mostly internet drag queens that started 3 years ago and are too scared to say anything or else they might get cancelled. AS7 was only slightly tolerable cause it had a lot of strong, established queens.
I feel like a big part of why the Angeria vs Roxxxy storyline is not working, and for AS9 in general, that I feel people are not bringing up ENOUGH is that we're already at the halfway point and NO ONE has been blocked out of a badge yet from the scissors - which is what that mechanic is even SUPPOSED to do. This rivalry just feels so null & void because the blocking itself isn't actually doing ANYTHING, making the endless dialogue & defending of the reasons holding ZERO weight. Ironically enough, this could've happened TWICE already: Angeria in Top 2 for SG after being cut in Ep2, and Jorgeous in Top 2 for Makeover after being cut in Ep3. The lack of stakes makes this entire drama feel pointless to me.
i'm just not seeing what others are. roxxy is doing ok. she's going to get to the end with other people's help. so far all badges and wins she's gotten is because of a group thing. in the previous all stars she got to the end with help from her friends as well. her outfits are ok. i don't know why the judges are gushing over them like during the makeover, the outfits were ok and certainly nothing to go wow over. and now we're seeing she's back to her old roxxy antics. i thought this was going to be a redemption for her but i don't know if it's shaping out to be that way.
I've been talking about Drag Race cloning seasons for a while now. If anything, I think this has a cast with a similar quality to season 10, but with the same approach to casting that seasons 3, 5, and 6 had: casting for storylines rather than archetypes.

Roxxxy came from the two most popular seasons. Yes it makes her a bit of legend, but that does not guarantee her being third-time-lucky, especially when she was better in her previous seasons.
Can I ask what is the tea with Jorgeous? I think she is doing well this season, unlike in 14 where she was a bit favored this time I think she got screwed up in the roast.
But Angeria lacks of the x factor, I dont see her winning this season. The fandom is rooting for Plastique (because of her looks) and Roxxxy (who I want to win this season)
I think they are try to recreate AS7. Even the track records of some queens are similar to the winners on AS7. What they don't understand stand this cast is sadly not on the level of AS7 queens and the season is suffering because of it
I didn’t think of this as repeating season 5. I think this season is kinda messy like a season 3 of something like 3x3=9 so all stars 9 is a messy season. If they can’t decide to crown Roxxy or Anjie…. I’m rooting for the underdog Vanjie

Not that Shannel isn't good but she doesn't have winner energy. Almost generic city cutter drag. Over the top unoriginal vegas girl. Nothing sets her apart.
