I just read Thomas Paine's The Age of Reason a few days ago, and it is fire! “Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity. ”
Thank you ffrf for being kind to people, and helping them instead of being a Christian with us!!! Of course I would mention other religions but they're not the ones here who don't know how to be kind to others.
I have been a metaphysical Christian for over 30 years. We are a small denomination and aways hope that you will come through for all the New Thought as well as atheists!
America was founded as a secular nation governed by human beings - not by a man in the sky. The First Amendment text reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." It does not say America is established as a Christian Nation. The word "Christian" does not appear anywhere in the Constitution.
I have my book. Thank you for all the information and the inspiration to counter the chorus of misinformation my Christian friends have. I was also unknowingly a Christian nationalist myself. No more.
On a Christian site I heard a graduate student who did her Masters degree on the Constitution and the 10 Commandments. To her surprise she found at least 7 are unconstitutional.
After the colonies claimed Independence, not a single Christian nation would acknowledge our nation officially. The colonies turned to Morocco to be its first ally. Morocco was the only nation to recognize the US as a free sovereign nation on the condition we do not become a Christian state. And that's why our first foreign embassy/public building is still in Tangiers.
Khanhminh Nguyen You may enjoy reading "Freethinkers, A History of American Secularism" by well known historian Susan Jacoby. I very much recommend it. One of the reviews of the book by Professor Peter Gay of Yale University says "Freethinkers is not only a good book, it is a necessary one. This dramatic study offers a welcome reminder that the Founding Fathers were intent on keeping church and state firmly separated. Lively, impassioned, and impartial, Susan Jacoby's argument deserve more than respect; it deserves support." If you wish to read the U.S. Constitution, you can Google it and find it online.
Pre-ordered this book and looking forward to reading it and passing it along to others. I cannot say how many times I've heard the myth told to me and had to correct them. The argument that our First Amendment is in direct opposition to the First Commandment has always been effective.
