I would propose a 3 match tournament. 1st match league rules, 2nd match union rules and the final match - 1st half union rules and 2nd half league - or vice versa decided by a coin toss. Strict refereeing to the laws of both codes, so the team that best adapts wins.

It’s meagain. Are you some kinda of psycho? It’s not about being tough it’s about acceptable danger. Scrummaging is painful and dangerous to anyone who hasn’t done it before. Let’s alone against some of the world best props who will have at least 20kg on their league counterparts. I mean your logic is so flawed. It’s not about being a pussy. Jumping off a 100 foot cliff would prove you weren’t a pussy but is it worth the danger?

@@alanb9443 Surely there are plenty of Aussie psycho`s willing to stand at prop. So what you are proposing is, it`s a union win without a ball being kicked ? Why does league bother with their pansy scrums and tap kick line outs ? It is the reason I don`t watch league rugby, the rest of it is great and there are great players but why bore us with those docile parts of the game. I reckon Union is a far more complex and strategic game that is more entertaining. Added to this I think modern day professionalism and fitness will give a cross code match off a more level playing field. The under pressure prop drops his knees if beaten or has a white handkerchief in his pocket :) Mate have you seen some of the tackle collisions nowadays, kinda puts scrumming into perspective. Am i psycho ? no a bit of a coward actually.

@@itsmeagain8604 scoring via penalties and drop kicks are the most boring ways to win a match. And who cares about contesting scrums and line outs, it's just time consuming and adds little value to the game. Oh and all the technicality is what makes yawnion even more boring.

Here's a hastily thought out proposal for hybrid gameplay - at least to serve as a starting point: - League style scrums: Dictated by body shapes available in League and safety - Union line-outs: League can't have it all their own way; also there needs to be some of the "all shapes and sizes" element of Union - No Union mauls: League fans probably wouldn't want to watch otherwise - League tackle sets: It wouldn't be truly hybrid without it, but perhaps the number needs to be modified to balance the gameplay (see below) - League play-the-ball replaced by Union tackle contest & rucks: So there is (limited) contest for possession and tactical variation - League 40-20, but with line-outs -13 a side

When Union is struggling in Australia, they need something to get noticed. Union stuffed up here in Oz back in the early naughties. It's now just ever going to be a novelty sport in Australia that had international flavours. Rugby League stands to make ground in New Zealand and Europe. NRL need to spend to franchise itself in Europe and do it's best to compete with RaRa in NZ. It's no secret that Union rules NZ, but not everyone gets a go. There is enough space in NZ for RL to co-exist with RU. Doing hybrids is mere jizz marketing. If Rugby wants to be something again in Oz, need to get their arrogant heads out of the butts and tailor towards the old working class common man, but they wont in Oz.

What a dumb idea. So when the RL team gets the ball they have to go through the 6 tackle possession, but the RU will go through endless phases? Both sides will have to adapt to the other’s way of playing plus new rules. This is like that stupid stunt made by Mayweather vs McGregor.

League scrums....mauls( ball carrier at the front)...held up in tackle is a turnover scrum...strip in tackle not numbers dependant...5 metre offside line.remember a team can push in league scrums it's just that they dont !!!!!

Pretty sure the All Blacks would be embarrassed. Sonny Bill struggled playing league after returning from Union. League is so much faster than Union now and their match fitness is way better than even the top Union players.

I am certain the Kangaroos would put a high score on any countries national Rugby Union side. They pass quicker, more agile and have far better match fitness. This is why Union is always trying to poach players from the NRL. They know it's an elite form of Rugby.
