Hi Guys, just noticed your canopy is bolted down hard to the chassis. I would recommend inserting a bit of rubber or nylon between the mounting post and chassis to allow a bit of give. Aluminium mounting posts can be prone developing stress fractures due to chassis flex. Looks great tho. Cheers

Thanks for the tip mate and a brilliant idea to have the nylon insert to serve as a bush.

Dual cab with canopy seems like the go. Camping out of the boot of my wagon with 2 kids is a pain.

I feel you, we used to have all our camping stuff in two large plastic containers that we would put in the car when going and it was very unorganised and we would always forget stuff haha. Ali canopy set up is the ultimate in our opinion

@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 4 месяца назад
Depending on how many parmies we have had.. but around that weight yeah 😉 we don’t have the roof top tent on anymore, and are adding a few more mods before the trip so expect the weight to be another 50kgs lighter in touring trim when we do our lap.
@andrewlund3886
@andrewlund3886 4 месяца назад
@@yan_stewi_travels that’s great. I picked mine up from dealer and was 2,550kg with only mods of suspension, tray and canopy. Up around 3.5t now fully loaded. Have some regrets about tray now due to weight.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 4 месяца назад
@@andrewlund3886 is the tray aluminium? There are lots of ways to cut a bit of weight out of the tray and add the canopy on, depending on the canopy you might be able to modify it to drop some weight out, what kind of fridge and draw set up have you got?
@andrewlund3886
@andrewlund3886 4 месяца назад
@@yan_stewi_travels yea it’s all ally, with ally kitchen draws. Have been doing some calcs and cutting some weight were I can but not enough to make big difference. I think there’s just so much extra weight in the tray that I didn’t realise. I guess a tray is doubling the base and headboard framing of a canopy. Chest fridge and chest freezer without any slides.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 4 месяца назад
As long as you’re under the gvm it’s all good, we opted for plastic big w draws internally for all our camping gear and a upright fridge, even though the fridge uses more power it’s a compromise as it’s significantly lighter/ easier access than a chest as we would have been forced to get a drop down slide (both short 😂) which would have doubled the weight and taken up so much space. If your not carrying much weight in the rear convert the big Ali draws to big w or Kmart plastics we have had about 15-20 kgs in ours and hasn’t given us any issues, we have 6 of them stacked and they pretty much weigh a kilo each which is nuts for the storage capacity they can hold.

Amazing build! After seeing this, I want to make my canopy a chassis mount as well. Just need a fabricator in Melbourne to support :) Did you replace the OEM rear view mirror or is the wolf box mirror sitting on top or using the mounting straps?
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels Месяц назад
Thanks mate, you won’t regret going a chassis mount, lighter and makes it practical. Wolfbox also do a replacement mount instead of the straps, way neater and looks oem spec 👌

got some details from TC boxes for the total weight of 2* 1450mm tool boxes, 1650mm tray deck no headboard with trundle drawer , a pair of under tray side boxes, couple shelves and tool box gate kits are 280KG. not sure if i need to upgrade GVM after i put some tools inside. Perfect setup for builders and camping.

Maybe weight up all your tools to start with, and factor extras for the future. Then set your ute up based on the figures, another option is to do without the tray, chassis Mount a 1400 canopy and have a fab shop build a tray on the rear of it to make it up to the 1650 then you’d have 250mm of tray likely to save a bit of weight that way.

We ran them through the fire wall at the rear with a up rated fitting, then did the same on the canopy underside and ran the wires up the wall. Message us on Instagram and we can flick you some photos of you need 💪

If you use it for everyday, is it difficult for you to open the canopy at the carpark with cars next to you? For example loading groceries
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 3 дня назад
@@AhTanBaeeStan we don’t use the car everyday personally, but the canopy doors are really easy to deal with even with parked cars they tend to not have a big foot print as they open upwards. Our biggest enemy atm is underground car parks as the car is tall as with a roof top tent on top haha!
@AhTanBaeeStan

thanks for the quick reply. Understand of the height limit at certain places. Looking for a setup for daily use that can use for weekend camping with rooftop tent and awning
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 3 дня назад
if it’s just a weekender, a swag was perfect for us as we could pack it under our place when not using, but if you need a roof top tent that’s super slim go the sabre super lite, they are thin as on the roof would be better for daily driving. As for awning I suggest a good quality 270 degree is super useful, personally I don’t think I could go back to a standard awning after the 270.

Great vid, subbed! love my GLS MR but after putting a fleet trades tray on I was naturally left with the BMS and rear parking sensors in the factory bumper housing which looks shocking. I was quoted ~$1,300 by Fleet to relocate them which I found pretty extreme. Yours look great. What company did you gets yours relocated through?
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 2 месяца назад
Appreciate the sub, We used Flux3D for the BMS and the rear parking sensors. $1300 is pretty steep, you only need to drill out holes to fit the sensors and the blind spot adaptors fit directly to your chassis and are adjustable to suit the length of your tray set up.
@johnsambar2658
@johnsambar2658 2 месяца назад
@@yan_stewi_travels awesome, thank you! $409 for the BSM brackets is a lot more reasonable! Are there any warranty or insurance concerns when doing that kind of relocation work yourself?
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 2 месяца назад
@@johnsambar2658 the reason we kept the BMS system was to retain the safety feature, so based on an insured event that particular safety feature still exists and is effective, fitment was conducted as per the specs and bolts were all torqued to spec as they fit where the tow bar is. I can’t see a reason how or why insurance would deny a claim, I have informed them of the aftermarket aluminium canopy and surrounding mods, I would strongly suggest contacting them and disclosing your mods. Directly from Mitsubishi for warranty, if there is a modification done to the car, Mitsubishi must prove that the modification or relocation has created a fault if there is one. We haven’t had an issue with the BMS, rear park sensors are great but they sometimes pick up our tyre and jerry holder on the rear due to their location.

@yan_stewi_travels how does the canopy width work out? The fabrication guys are telling me 1850. Your rig has sold me on 1500 long.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels Месяц назад
@@jamesandchloe4954 the canopy is perfect for us at 1500mm it depends on what you are using it for, there are so many smart fit out options. I personally wouldn’t go 1800mm, unless you’re bracing the chassis it’s just to risky, the fabricator should know better as that’s a lot of overhang not only would it look weird but also risks bending your chassis once it’s loaded up with gear.
@jamesandchloe4954
@jamesandchloe4954 Месяц назад
Thanks, sorry meant the width. You have 1775 and it looks about right. We are having one fabricated from scratch and seems that everyone heads towards 1850 wide. We have settled on 1500 long, looks perfect. Do uou have a part number for the hayman reece bar?
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels Месяц назад
@@jamesandchloe4954 ah yep, so width is fine, it sits out probably about 3 cm but lines up with the body in sections looks fine and not out of proportion. Try this when you search for the towbar: HAYMAN REESE Tow Bar + Wiring Kit MITSUBISHI TRITON MR 18-23 NO-STEP 03268RW Sits up nicely but need a drop hitch for a caravan or trailer.
