Next up in our putter series is a straight fight between a Scotty Cameron (£400) vs. a package set (£40) putter to see which one is better.
Donal put the two putters through the following tests.
Pressure putting, 8x putts from around the hole, all 4ft.
Three putt avoidance, 3x long putts to 3x location around the green.

I initially didn't like my SC Newport because the face felt stiffer and clickier than what I was used to (a soft Odyssey insert). But once I learned how to hit the centre of the face more consistently, I love it. I get that buttery smooth feel others talk about that always perplexed me. I've come to realize that putters with soft inserts try really hard to hide your mishits, which is fine for a weekend hacker. But the SC Newport forces you to become a better putter, otherwise you probably won't ever like using it.

Used Scotty Cameron's are always a good purchase. People tend to look after them really well considering the price.

£500 driver but people spend £100 on a putter which you’ll use for around 30 shots per round 🤷🏻‍♂️

Actually no. Best thing to do is look for an older used putter that is balanced. You can find a ping or odyssey putter for $30 used, you’ve scored. The putter is not going to do the work for you.

Buy a used 1980's Ping Anser (Scotty copied the design) and save yourself $350.

You don’t have to spend enormous amounts of money on a putter. You simply have to buy a mid range well balanced putter. You will use it the most out of any. Three words to live by. Practice practice practice
