Got to love shortgame vids with James and Chris. Applied Chris' "3 putter practice swing to guage speed" preshot routine and my speed control has improved no end.

After having played with a Scotty Studio Design 1.5 Blade for the past 20 years or so, I thought I should try a more forgiving mallet. I ended up purchasing the Phantom X 11 just a few weeks back. With some good practice, I now have this putter doing a really good job for me. It has very good balance back and through the ball, with a great feeling, and excellent forgiveness. The longer alignment aid on top greatly helps in lining up the putt. Just for a comparison, I went back and tried my original blade. For me, there's only one way now - I'm a mallet guy.

I love the look of the 5.5! I just don’t think I can’t get rid of my select fastback, it’s from 2014 and I can’t imagine standing over a different putter. That 5.5 is pretty tempting now with the mill face!!

For over 20 years I’ve used my ROSSIE. Since I made the change to softer balls I have lost the feel in the putting stroke. Just recently I lashed out and got a SC FLOWBACK 5. It’s similar to the ROSSIE. Slightly bigger, heavier and I can feel the ball come of the putter. My distance control is better and I’m holing more putts. Very happy ..

I really like the look of the 5.5 and 7.5. Just never found a mallet I actually make more putts with than my Newport. Squareback 2 may be the ticket as I have found success in the past with an original Circle T Notchback.

Do love the Phantom series……after 20 years with my Newport Beach - just picked up a Phantom 5 after falling in love with it at my local course pro shop. Definitely can see and feel the roots in the Newport. Enjoy it mate !

From the video the roll of the putter looks amazing and no doubt the feel is even better, good video James 👍🏻 What’s your thought on one of the ones you was using then and the Toulon you have been using? I love the odyssey Toulon putters love the looks feel and the shaft colour. Might sound far fetched but the cleveland Huntington Beach soft 11 is one the best feeling putters I have ever used and costs £100😳

Great video, and those Scotty's do look amazing. Still using a SPIDER EX, for which I have no complaints, but may look to upgrade this summer once prices stabilize.

Might have to check these out, I didn't care for the last lineup due to colors. Ended up retiring my Scotty Newport Oil Can, switching to Cobra Stingray 40. Wonderful feel imo.

Out of that range I'd probably lean towards either the 7.5 or the 11 myself as well. I do however absolutely love my 12.5 that I'm currently gaming. I picked it up a few months ago, sent it to the Scotty Cameron custom shop for a bit of custom paint work, new grip and a few little tweaks to the specs, and now the only decision I have to make is whether I want to will it to someone, or just go ahead and have it buried with me.

When you say you live the feel and sound of these putters it's relevant to know what ball you were using, can you tell us please. A srixon ultisoft probably feels good putting with a solid block of cast iron 🤔

I went with the new x9, coming from a Futura 5s. Impossibility hard decision, tried the 5, 7.5, 9 and 9.5. Switching from center shafted - this is my first heel shafted putter in my last 5 Scotty’s. Firmer feel than the Futura and nice feedback for an MOI mallet. I’m happy that nuke green paint fill is gone, these look like a Cameron should IMO. Bonus with going heel shafted is I can finally get cool custom shop headcovers 😎

These are def some of the coolest Scottys in a while. Still love the gentle “ting” of my old school Futura! (tho it has recently been replaced with a Spider ARC!)

The phantoms x lineup has always been milled face, no inserts. I think the difference from before 2020 release, is they now use 303 stainless steel for the face with a mid mill for a softer feel, and space grade aluminum to help Scotty put the weight in the spots he wants it for higher MOI

If only we were able to blank off all branding and test these blind, I wonder if some of the cheap brands such as Ben Ross would more than hold their own. As putting is so much a feel thing, it’s what works for you. I have always played with blade style, and just find mallet heads too much. I know you will use a putter more than any other club but £300 + for it I just cannot handle.

Just bought the 12. Am I 6.0 handicap but have always struggled with putting,. Hoping to get some more consistency and hopefully get below a 5.0 to end the season.

Bought the 5.5 last year, which I do really like, but if I am being totally honest, I miss my Toulon Vegas H7. Not sure if it was the stroke lab shaft or the face of the putter, but there is something about the feel of the Toulon that I find unmatched. Sorry Scotty, but hey, you have my $$.

You are putting so well with the single bend Toulon at the moment, which is very much the same at the Scotty 7. I totally understand the preference in looks of the slant neck on 7.5 (I agree), but would you not keep the single bend as it might actually suit your stroke better?

I played only Scotty Cameron from when I was a young teen with my new port 2 pro platinum until my 30s. I switched over to odyssey and am much happier. I have a Toulon Atlanta and I just got from my wife a new Daytona. Very happy getting to odyssey and away from Scotty Cameron

They’ve chuffing velcro’d the headcover again haven’t they!! Wants wrong with putting a magnet on them fgs!? A minor point I know but winds me up that a putter of this class comes with an opening that’s going to wear out quicker! Hate Velcro lol

Loving this lineup. Yeah the aluminum in the 12 wouldn’t be my pick either. My LAB DF 2.1 is 100% aluminum and that’s one thing I don’t like about it besides it looks like a branding iron!! The feel isn’t there like a milled stainless steel face/head. I like the 11.5 the best. Haven’t tried any of them so that might change once I roll them

I’ve been gaming a PLD Anser 2 for most of the year, but I just couldn’t get the face twist under control. Got the Phantom X 12, and what a difference. The four footers aren’t nearly as scary. Shame though. The Anser 2 is such a pretty putter. But Titleist… seriously, can we put some magnets in the headcover 😑

FYI....you mentioned that in previous generations of the Phantom 5.5, there was no milling. My 2021 Scotty Cameron Phantom 5.5 is indeed milled just like the 2022 model. In fact, there is no difference looking down at the club and probably performance. However, I cannot state that unequivocally as there may be subtle differences in MOI......better or worse. The main difference is when you look at the sole of the club. Looks like the only difference may be cosmetic.

I agree. I just custom ordered a 2021 5.5 2 weeks ago. And was upset to see a 2022 model but as you said it’s mainly the bottom plate that’s changed. And the new grip is ugly anyways.

Love the video but hate the look of all those putters. My eye just can't adjust to a mallett. Blades are my weapon of choice. I don't know why but I do terribly whenever I've tried putting with putters styled like the ones you've showed today

I’m not too concerned with the price of a Scotty. It’s the most used club in your bag. If a putter gives you more confidence and you think you roll it better then go for it! Although this mentality I’ve developed after taking up golf MAY be the reason I’m broke now… 🤔

Scotty’s are a whole lot of money to still 3-putt. The course record holder at my local club plays an original ping anser 2, Wilson harmonized wedges, ping eye 2+ irons, and TaylorMade M2 woods and driver. He’s only been golfing 2-3 years and bought everything second hand (obviously). Just another example that you can’t buy a golf game

@@donjacobson818 yeah I agree. He’s not too social though and really didn’t talk to the other guys when we played together. He explained his journey and his weekly routines and it’s stunning the amount of work he put in. It’s really no surprise at how fast he progressed. He’s got an infant now though so he doesn’t get to play much anymore. Makes me feel a lot better about myself though. I only started in August 2021 and I’ve reached an 11 handicap and shot under 80 twice. I only just started taking lessons though since I reached somewhat of a plateau.

Ive got a 21 year old putter and average 24 to 32 putts per have tried a scotty cameron and what do you know 24 to 32 putts per round. You know what I discovered it was actually the guy using it.

Well it must be nice to be able to afford a Scotty Cameron - here in Canada they'll be close to $540 . Cant argue with performance but like the $600 + new drivers, we'll have to pass. Thought you were really liking your Toulan putter ?? Not that they're any bargain either.
