I think for artists if you can afford, always good idea to upgrade, but if you can’t, whatever that you’re most used to using is always your best tool ❤
I sold my saddle in 2022 and got the M2 iPad Pro. I am very happy with it. I wont lie, it would be nice to have these new features but I can't afford it. You can do art without these features, you can get the same result, just a little bit more work. :)
The layer select has got me excited. Sometimes I have so many layers that it takes second to find the right one, just for a simple change….or I start drawing on the wrong layer. Silly me. Have fun playing, mine comes tomorrow!
So far the best review I’ve seen of the new iPads and pencils… I have a 2018 iPad Pro and I’m thinking it may be time to update… I’m excited to see what you do in Procreate!
My 2018 died a month ago so got my hands on the new 13 pro…..awesome as. Gen2 is not compatible which I was bummed by that but heck I’m glad it isn’t now as I love the pro pencil SO much more. I swear you will go whoa…seriously? This is awesome! The first time you try it. Gamechanger.
I traded in and upgraded my 7 year old 12.9” pro and pencil today! Downsized to an 11” for portability because the 13” was a nightmare to travel with and was so heavy. It was great for art but awful as a tablet because of the size. I’m hoping I don’t miss the extra screen space but excited to try all the new features!
Very exciting things. I love that haptic feature for snapping, that seems like it would be extremely helpful when you need to be more precise. Also that barrel roll, it seems that would make calligraphy even better and easier. Thank you for this update, can’t wait to see what you show us next!
I'm really excited to get the new ipad air 6 with the new pencil pro and even better is i saved up for them both with 500GB to get, man when i het this pad I'm going crazy with my art and drawings and sketches but I'll wait to buy when i travel again
I will be getting my Nano screen review out soon for the Pro. I am just wanting more hands on with it in daily use. So far the screen is amazing and it's crazy how much brighter it is outside.
Thank you for the detailed and clear explanation! For one of the future videos about the new iPads you mentioned, it would be great to know what's the largest canvas size you could work on in Procreate using, let's say 3 layers. Thx!!!
_is it a big difference between drawing on 60hz display iPad Air 13 and 120hz display iPad Pro? It is my main concern since M4 iPad Pro is overpriced for me, so iPad Air 13 would be perfect choice if there is no big difference in terms of drawing_
You will love the Air. Buy what works for your budget. It is a phenomenal iPad. You may want a screen protector and def want a case and the new Apple Pencil Pro.
I was ready to order the Apple Pencil pro tomorrow morning until I heard the first sentence in this video (“upgrade to these in order to use this”) ….i didn’t even think to look for compatibility because my iPad Pro is less than a year old…what a terrible decision from Apple to have in only compatible for the newest iPads, there’s no need for me to upgrade my iPad Pro whatsoever it works perfectly well for procreate and for 3D modeling. How absurd
The new Apple Pencil is not compatible due to the need to change the position of the recharging and pairing induction coil due to the front camera being horizontal now.
Well, these are the same people that didn’t make the iPad 10th Gen compatible with Apple Pencil 2. Instead, they gave us an $80 stylus as some kind of a strange and cruel upgrade.
Lisa, how do you use the Apple Pencil Pro when you do stamp brush in Procreate? I made a signature brush but it spins around and I cannot get it to go down straight? Turning the pencil makes no difference, it goes down where it wants to. I do not see a roll feature in the settings. Please, help!!!!
Hi, what screen protector you're using on your iPad so that pencil tips won't wear out easily and don't compromise on screen clarity and what pencil tips on your pencil (if any) ??
I’ve always used a matte glass screen protector which gives a smooth drawing feel and doesn’t wear down the tips. But on my new iPad Pro, I have the nano texture glass which gives the same feeling, and I don’t feel the need for a screen protector.
Wacom curated one of the first implementations of barrel rotation, years ago, in their art pen stylus but recently had to discontinue it.. I'm interested to see future reviews on the apple pencil and sustained quality and software compatibility.
Can not wait for the Procreate update to come out so it can get to a lot of testing. I am loving the features so far. There has been no announcement yet when Procreate will release their update yet.
Hi, Thanks for sharing detailed demo of pencil pro, it was very exciting to know all these possibilities which I was not aware before watching this video. Keep posting more videos.
@@BardotBrush still waiting for procreate to finishing transferring from cloud. lol. Taking hours but Dreams is up and running. I was a bit miffed I had to buy a new pencil as the gen 2 isn’t compatible but heck when I tested out the pro pencil I was blown away and instantly thought, oh I’m glad the gen 2 isn’t compatible coz I never would have bought it. It’s awesome, cuts down time for sure.
Can we talk about the fact those game changing updates to the pencil aren’t even available yet on Procreate? Might be worth mentioning to your followers
@@Sofianoon thanks for the super insightful advice. Not sure what I would have done without the sage “chill out”. This is what keeps the internet alive and kicking.
Ahhh! I am beside myself. I thought having Hover would change the game for me, but this is a WHOLE new level. I can't wait to paint with it! Very cool to see the Pencil Pro in action and how you're using it
As an artist it’s great to get your point of view on these new devices. I’m upgrading from a 2018 pro 12.9 and use it for Procreate 90% of the time. Do you have the same max layers in Procreate on the Air and the Pro? Is the Pro really worth the extra $$$? Thanks!
I’ll share those details once I find out. I only had access to an early version for this special press demo for testing. I’ll make a video once I can test and verify.
I got the new ipad air and pencil pro but it lags too much in every app, it draws too slow. I heard of a solution by unlinking it in bluetooth and relink it back, but it only improve for a while. Can anyone knows a solution? Appreciate, thanks.
Great video! I noticed some of this stuff like the squeeze isn’t working in Fresco for me. I’ve checked to make sure I’m updated. Did you need to do anything to enable it? Thanks!
Fresco hasn't released their update to support Apple Pencil Pro, so the new features won't work yet. I'm sure it's coming soon! Same thing for Procreate.
I'm right there with you Chris! I wish adobe had been a little more coordinated with Apple so their apps would be updated on launch day for the new iPad pro. Just sitting here waiting to take advantage of the new pencil pro features.
My new M4 iPad Pro 13 should be here in the next 12 hours including the new Apple pencil Pro. Since I do so much photo editing that apple pencil is so valuable in my editing process and I'm hoping that this new apple pencil Pro Works more smoothly than the second generation apple pencil that I've been using with my M1 iPad Pro. I didn't get the keyboard because I'm not a big fan of keyboards but I can't wait just to see that new OLED screen. Your excitement in your video just makes me excited thank you great video
I just upgraded from the ipad mini to the new macbook air 11in. Aside from more layers, what are some of the new features I will have access to in Procreate? I think i remember seeing some differences between the color swatches and maybe between the list of brushes?
I have a video coming out answering this in just an hour or two. The new Apple Pencil Pro only works on the new iPad Air and new iPad Pro with the M4 processor.
I've gotten the 13 inch air with the pencil pro, upgrading from the original 1st gen ipad pro which for me was just stuttering constantly in procreate especially with higher amounts of strokes and things, and generally just getting slower and slower, so really looking forward to when they make drawing with the pencil pro actually doable in it since it currently lags behind in rendering brushstrokes by 1-5 seconds and sometimes just plain doesnt draw without a ton of force. it renders smoothly so it's better on that front but without an update for support i now have two ipad situations that make drawing difficult in different ways but somehow the older one is preferable
I am also looking to upgrade my 1st gen iPad Pro and was thinking of buying the 13 inch Air. I’m so sorry to hear you’re having issues in Procreate! May I ask what they are please?
I still won’t upgrade from my iPad mini 6 ad Apple Pencil 2 because the mini is perfect size to me and even though I’ve done commissions on my mini I love Apple Pencil 2.
Ms Bardot, I can't find the roll option you are showing on 4:21 with my Procreate and my new iPad Pro 13 and Apple Pencil Pro. Are you using a Beta version of Procreate or I'm missing something to activate this feature? I'm running the latest version available on App Store.
It’s not supported yet 😢 All of the sponsored videos showcasing the new functionality did not mention that they were showing a beta version and that procreate has not released it yet.
The Procreate update to support Apple Pencil Pro is coming soon! As I mentioned in the video, these are all beta versions I'm using. Until then you can test it out in the Notes app. Try out the squeeze menu and the highlighter or fountain pen to see the barrel roll feature.
The new Apple Pencil Pro only works for the new iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4 Check out my video that goes over compatibility! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-521R6Xn2jA0.html
How are y’all finding the money to buy new iPads every years? I got the M1 one in 2021 and as an aspiring pro artist i feel so bad, i need to keep it for at least 2 years more
I also used to feel pressure to get the latest and all that, but it's easy to go on yt and see people doing amazing art work with a basic ipad or just budget samsung too. Is it something we want sure if enough budget why not is it something we need definitely not.
Definitely don’t feel pressured. I had my last pro for 7 years and only upgraded because my Apple Pencil 2 conveniently broke 2 weeks ago and my charger port stopped charging my iPad properly. I traded it in because by next year, it wouldn’t be worth anything to apple. Use yours until the wheels fall off.
True. Don’t feel pressured. A lot of it is bells and whistles but there are professionals working with the previous models. A couple of comic artists I follow do it in iPads with the pencil 2 or older.
What about animators. Suppose i want to do animations in dreams with slightly more tracks then usually needed. Is the Ipad Air 13” with M2 chip enough to handle the lot of tracks like 60-80. Cause M4 would be too costly given that i also need larger screen size. Please help me, i need suggestion on this one.
I just bought the new IPad Pro M4 with the new Apple Pencil Pro and in procreate how do i make that hover shadow appear when I have my pencil near the display or how do I find the barrel roll setting? Update: I just realized she’s probably using a beta version of procreate and the roll feature isn’t even out yet :(
Depends on which iPad. The nano you do not use a screen protector on. I don’t like the paperlike they scratch, wear down nibs. I prefer a matte glass screen protector.
@@BardotBrush, me too. I tried a bunch of paper-like protectors, and besides the issues you stated, they also add an ugly, grainy effect or other artifacts. I ended up using PenMat from PenTips, but some other cheap magnetic matte protectors are decent, too.
You should be able to create some cool stuff where one the brush dense and then when rolled can be dry. I can’t wait to keep experimenting and creating some new tools.
I always get excited about how Procreate grows and develops. :). I have autism that limits making progress at technical skills, but Procreate for me has always been fun and intuitive. This new Air is so worth saving up for; being able to use the larger screen size in half the time it takes to save for a Pro., that is so much more attainable.
I just got my Apple Pencil pro yesterday and none of these features or options to change them is available on procreate. There’s no update available either?
I have a new iPad Pro 13 inch and the latest updated version of Procreate, but none of the pencil features work on Procreate. Am I doing something wrong ??
Just went and ordered your book - saw a review of it on amazon - looks amazing!!! TFS! Now I have two things to look forward to this week my new iPad Pro and your book!!!!
It's called Drawing Digital! Hope you love the book. www.bardotbrush.com/book You can order it on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. There is a French and German version out now too!
@@BardotBrush thank you so much for your quick response ! Is there any chance I can get it as a PDF ? Cuz the shipping is a little pit pricy in order to be delivered to my country 🥲
I personally love the 13" its the size of a pice of paper for drawing space! If your budget has space for it and the Apple Pencil Pro I'd say get the 13" Air or Pro! The Air is such a great value. The Pro is a heavy workhorse for professionals.
Hi Ms Bardot, one of disappointing things for me about the old ipad Air was the lack of the hover functionality, it was only for the ipad pro. Does the new Apple pencil pro have full hover functionality on the new ipad airs like the way the Apple pencil gen 2 had with the old ipad pros? Some confirmation on this and I am going to buy it within the week!
I guess it depends on how Apple implements the barrel roll. Affinity does support rotation so if iPadOS presents that in the same way that Wacom does, for instance, it might Just Work. Otherwise it’ll hopefully be in the 2.6 release (2.5 might be too far in the beta cycle to add). I’m getting my new iPad Air this week so I’ll be excited to test it out!
@@benjfischer I’m sure they will include it. I use the iPad version more than the desktop version these days. Definitely going to be investing end of the month.
I have an M1 Pro, do you feel like there is a big difference between it and the M4 Pro? At this point I'm undecided! Kinda waiting to see what Procreate says they will be doing so I can make sure and get the one that's best for it! 😂
Great question. If you are a working professional, the new Apple Pencil Pro is worth its weight in gold. You will also see a big jump in the amount of layers if you jump from the M1 to the M4 with at least 1Tb of storage due to it having 16 GB of Ram. I always say you want to look at your budget and do what is best for you. I will also be doing a review soon of the nano with the OLED display. It is really a beautiful display. Hope that helps. I want to know more questions you have as I will be coming out with a full iPad review later.
Oh, I hope this will inspire you to make new brushes again! But will we have to but you new IPads to take advantage of the brush updates? Plus ça change...😅
I will be working on brush updates and new brushes. Maybe even a new free set too. Know that some updates would only be for the new functions of the Apple Pencil Pro. That doesn't mean I won't be coming out with new sets that everyone can take advantage of too.
It came early! Yay. I’ve had it for about a week now and I am loving it so much. The screen is super clear and I also love the Magic Keyboard. Haven’t really tried out the pencil yet but you can be sure that I will soon. :)
Am I missing out on something? Just got my new iPad Air and Apple pencil Pro so was trying the barrel roll in Procreate but can't seem to get this working
Can those roll and squeeze features be turned off as I’m disabled so I have to hold my pencil differently to most people and would be accidentally triggering them constantly.
Hello! I just wanted to ask a question and I would like to know your opinion. What would be better to choose ipad air 13inch or the ipad pro 11inch (256gb both)? I mean air has bigger screen than ipad pro 11inch but ipad pro 11inch on the other side has promotion, face id, 120hz display... Whats more worth it in your opinion? Is the 120hz big deal or rather choose 13inch air for bigger screen? Thank you so much in advance!!
I am a huge fan of the new Apple Pencil Pro. That is your biggest requirement in a new purchase as an artist. From there I’ve always been a user of the larger iPad screens. I do this because it’s the size of a piece of paper. It’s very familiar to draw on. With that being said the iPad Air 13” plus the Apple Pencil Pro is a huge value and great iPad combination. If you are working on animation or this is your only professional art tool the Pro may tip your choice. It’s def about how your budget is too. If I was just getting started today, iPad Air would be the first one I’d get until I was in a work environment where I needed the Pro.
Sorry i didn’t read the full comment and reply from the content creator. I need to get to sleep and in a rush. So the iPad Air 13 inch isn’t actually 13. This is a thing people brought up that apple just said as a gimmick or to get more attention to the iPad Air
Do you tjink the ipad air 5 will be a good purchase for someones first time using an ipad? I dont want face id, and dont need all the fancy pro features
I think the new iPad Air M2 with the Apple Pencil Pro would be perfect for anyone wanting to learn digital art. In the end your budget will drive what is best for you. Any iPad you can learn digital art on is an amazing iPad. I loved the previous version of iPad Air (gen 5). It was and still is a great tool to learn art and Procreate. For value the new iPad Air m2 makes a huge leap over the gen 5 as it also uses the new Apple Pencil Pro. With a keyboard it can be used as a computer replacement for most use normal use even.
I have spent the last couple of years getting everything Samsung. I do my art digitally on a Tab S8 ultra 14-inch with the S Pen Creators edition because I saw the nip on the Apple pencil and preferred it to the micro nip on the s pen. I saw these new iPads with the nano finish and the Apple pencil pro and think I might want to switch. Also, I wish Procreate was also for Android another reason for thinking of switching, I never used anything Apple but am thinking of switching. Thanks for the video
Will the new M4 iPad Pro 13 came in today with my apple pencil Pro and boy that new OLED screen is beautiful compared to my M1 iPad pro. But the new Apple pencil I do like the squeeze feature because it gives you that little click feeling when you squeeze it enough to get the features to pop up. I only did a few Import and Export tests from both of my iPad pros. Both have one terabyte of storage and 16 gigs of RAM and the new M4 iPad Pro 13 Imports 125 photos raw 2 minutes and 20 seconds faster an exporting the 125 images and rendering them to jpegs it was a 3 minute and 30 second difference between the two so right there for me it's totally worth it
So awesome to hear about the performance! The haptic feed back is great. Excited to keep seeing how everything is developed for the new tools in the Apple Pencil Pro.
Help!! I got my iPad Pro 13 today and my pencil pro doesńt work with procreate. On the gallery allows me to preview but on the canvas the squeeze doesńt show anything. It works well in notes where it shows me the pallet . In good notes it only show undo and redo. But procreate …nothing. What am I doing wrong?
My jaw DROPPED when you said the new Apple Pencil had Find My! One time I lost my pencil, and I couldn’t find it for days, until I found it magnetically stuck to the top of my freezer (???)
Depends on your budget. If you can afford the Pro it is amazing! The extra power is great for animation. 1TB or more gets you the most RAM which means more layers!
My Apple Pencil pro doesn’t work I’m so disappointed 😞. The squeezing feature doesn’t work, do I have to activate something else? I already pair it and it vibrates but it doesn’t work. Same with the barrel roll😢
for the ipad pro, do you need to use face id to login to it, or does a passcode still work? Some features are new to the pencil pro, but I have had pressure, rotation and tilt (and more) in a Wacom for years now. It does look good though, thanks for the video.
uhm, how can you make that rotation work ? maybe there's something wrong with my pencil pro or with my ipad pro itself? (yes i do have the 2024 ipad pro) when i connected my pencil pro for the first time i didn't get an introduction/tutorial what so ever and the rotation just doesn't work.
Procreate hasn’t released the update to support Apple Pencil Pro just yet, but it is coming soon! For now, you can test out roll and squeeze using the Notes app.
Can someone pls tell me how to use the apple pencil pro functions on procreate Im pressing but not any functions can be used I can use the apple pencil pro functions on other apps but in procreate it doesnt work Cna someone tell me how to turn on those functions Its not under settings in apple pencil pro
Procreate will be releasing an update to support Apple Pencil Pro. They haven't said when yet, so hang tight. If you want to test out the roll feature, for now you can go to the Notes app and use the highlighter or the fountain pen.
PSA these procreate features are not yet supported. Just got my new m4 pro and Apple Pencil today and was disappointed to see that the squeeze gesture and barrel roll are not rolled out yet in procreate. Not sure if this creator was given access to a beta, and it’s not clear when they are going to release these features to the App Store, but as of right now it is not supported.
The Procreate update to support Apple Pencil Pro is coming soon! As I mentioned in the video, these are all beta versions I'm using. Until then you can test it out in the Notes app. I know it's hard to wait, I'm excited for everyone to try these new features!
Hi , I just got the new m4 ipad pro and pencil pro, we are having terrible lag on procreate, my daughter draws a circle and she is done before it even starts drawing it. Have you heard about any issues like this?
@@BardotBrush Thank you for your response, I'm using 5.3.9 build e5135bcb94. I tried to forget and re-pair my pencil, no luck. I moved everything over from an old ipad 10.5, I hope I can uninstall without losing my gallery, I'm thinking maybe a fresh version of procreate might help, probably not though. No lag in other apps, just on the procreate canvas.
I’m having the exact same issue… 13 inch m4 iPad Pro + pencil pro. No lag on my iPad mini + pencil, but pro+pro is Struggling currently… I’ve seen this issue in a few different places so far… fingers crossed it will be fixed in an update soon!
