Having a positive attitude helps a lot. I like to fill my tires with confetti. That way, if a tire happens to blow out, it is still a good day.

I like your videos. A lot of people making videos on youtube and don't have a clue what it takes to be an O/O. As a 15 year driver I'm always looking to fill my brain with more knowledge. I constantly come across a bunch of BS. All of you new truckers should watch and learn. She's not covering every intricate detail but it's good information. I took something from it.

Thanks for taking the time to put this out. I've enjoyed your past videos; helpful info and funny rants (LCVs). This video has the reminders I need as I am looking to make the change. Thanks!

Corey Etheridge Good to hear Corey. It's a big step to take. Do your research and don't jump till you're ready. It can be a rewarding career, if done right. Yes, love doing the rants and raves. LOL

The only Thing that concerns me is how Many Say that you MUST buy/Finance A NEW Truck.. This Is where I disagree.. If You Know How to turn A Wrench and know what you need and what to look out for.. I see No Problem at All Buying A older Truck..Plenty of O/O Run Trucks that are 90s and Older.. And Make Money doing it too. I feel That Even Trucking has Taken hold of this "Must be new" Fad..

I think that's a righteous statement. I'm thinking about class A. Been driving class B local. Problems with the new trucks is awful. Had a dealership tell me that the average over the road truck is in the shop, 2 to 3 months in the first year. That is awful! How can anybody make money like that? In the next video on this. He says he would put a rebuilt old engine/tranny in a new truck. He's being nice. Trying not to be rude about the new trucks.

Debating getting my CDL next summer or maybe even this winter. There are a few O/O in my area that make good money and home every night. That would be nice one day.

IN terms of money, I wonder which one is more profitable? Have you been able to do both? work for a company and be an owner operator? Would you buy a used truck? 2013-14? Excellent video. Thank you very much.
@SmartTrucking
@SmartTrucking 8 лет назад
+E Galindo I have done both and these days for the most part you're better off as a company driver. Profitable owner-operators are becoming a thing of the past. Dave

Basically I would like to get into A lease to own program and put money away for the maintenance of my truck, I don't make much now after the collapse of the oilfield industry so I can get by on 1000 a week and be happy my truck note and bills are paid. I would do this for as long as it took to own the truck or cash out with money saved in my personal savings or maintenance account. Then I would drive my truck home use it for security on an end dump or belly dump and work locally and be home every night, I would pay off my trailer then purchase a flatbed because we all know rock hauling is seasonal so in winter months I would hire a broker. I wouldn't do this with the intention of getting rich I would do it with the intention of making a living.

I don't know much about owner operating, but would it really take years to learn? I want to work in oil and gas since it's the field I know so I'm going to give it a shot after working for a company maybe 6 months only. The less bosses the better.

Any advise on how to get my CDL bcse my class A was suspended over for not paying a speeding ticket 1yr 1/2 ago and now Prime denied me saying my driving record has to be clear over 3yrs. I've already got a owner operator that wants to hire me as soon as I get my CDL but I need to get my license any advise appreciated Love. Thank you

Being a O/O isn't that great in these times. years ago was much better. the companies were around along time had great names, and great people whom ran them, owned them, putting a truck on then with some of those companies was ok. but now... wow its hard... there is no money left.. aftr fuel. home expenses, truck payment, house bills, food, gas, just everyday living you must be able to make ends meet. truck payment 1500.00 + 6000 fuel+house payment 700+house bills 500+food 300+ food on the road 600+ tires twice a year 8000.+ repairs 5000 on hand... or have a GREAT banker.... its not fun...anymore I got rid of mine in 95 when I was shorted 6000 on my check when I lost my great Load broker... my heck was 23000.00 and I said that's it... NO MORE

I'm wondering if this would be an easier task if I took a lesser mode in the trucking industry for example dump truck instead of regional tractor trailer driving as I do now for a company.Been a company driver for 20yrs feeling a little bored and somewhat stuck.Can't see myself going into my late 50s and 60s taking orders

The only thing holding me back at this point,and it might be a stupid reason, but I want to find a reasoned vet of the trade to putt around and follow. Does that make scence, or should I jump in with 2 feet and pray.

Thank You for taking the time to make an excellent video. You don't show monies being set aside for big repairs or other surprises. That comes out of your net, then? I actually make more driving for a company. Therefore, something doesn't add up. The company isn't losing money by paying me what they do. Please explain the disparity. Thank You

Ken Companies aren't paying owners the right / fair money for the loads we haul. I've been doing local container work for 3 years as an owner op and I can tell every load is about 100$ short and it gets worse once you drive out of the 100 mile radius.

I have a question. I have been out of driving for about 6 years and working as an LEO for almost 5. I have thought about getting back into driving but as an Owner Operator instead of a company driver. In your opinion would it be best to purchase a truck separately and lease on with a company to start out or is leasing a truck with a good company the way to go? Any other ideas or concerns? Thanks again
@SmartTrucking
@SmartTrucking 7 лет назад
I wouldn't recommend being an owner operator these days but if you gotta try it I would not buy or lease the truck from a carrier. Dave
