Horn's "Naturkraft", Peste Noire's self-titled, and Sale Freux's "L'Exil" are some of my favorites but yeah they definitely don't get the immediate, demanded respect like older GBK, Ved Buens Ende, Gorgoroth etc get
Actually, this is the best time for all metal sub-genres,black metal included. In this century metal has been evolving in many directions the scene is varied, diverse and lush.Plenty of good bands.Asagraum,Cirith Gorgoth, Necrophobic and Taake are still active,Dark Funeral and Immortal are back, you have Mgla,Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult,Marduk,etc....Good time for black metal.
Black Metal and metal in general is doing so well right now! I feel like every new band I discover has something unique to offer. So much interesting things to listen to!
5:50 Yep, I concur. Black Metal was born from the punk movement. Mostly from the UK82/D-beat bands (Discharge, The Exploited, GHB) and Crust Punk (Amebix, Antisect). Sarcofago was a punk hardcore band at the begining. Venom's members never hid their influence from UK82. Bathory - Sacrifice (their demo from 1983) is totally Crust Punk. Hellhammer/Celtic Frost were also influenced by Crust Punk.
Great melodies! I was a death metal guy, joined a death metal band who suddenly decided to switch to black metal after the first record. One of the covers we played was Katharina's Bortgang (or however you spell it) and that brought me around to black metal. Soon after, I ended up writing all the music and the former band leader just did lyrics haha
BORIS THANK YOU as always great video it's great to hear your opinions and the honesty behind your answers keep up the great work and keep moving forward and I definitely understand how weather effects the music we listen to I live in the northcoast of California surrounded by ocean and redwoods and winter has arrived with its dark brooding forces of energy if that isn't black metal inspiration I don't know what is hope all is well for you and Susi take care looking forward to what you have in stored for us .
[from Metal: A Headbangers Journey] “a lot of people have said Black Metal has lost touch with its roots” “who the fuck are they? Fuck them” “do you have any comments about that?” “Yeah I have a comment, fuck You” - Necrobutcher
About what you said about modern horror movies, i really recommend watching Hereditary and Midsommar. Both of them are great. Also ty for your content, i recently found this channel and have had a blast watching your videos.
I have ADHD and I know what you mean about doing things alone. It's because we fixate (or hyper focus) on what we're doing and we don't want distractions taking us out of it. You should get tested!
Hi boris, my favourite item from the website is the " mythology odin wolf stainless steel viking ring " Cool to see i started the same as you. With linkin park and slipknot ! Your content is awesome, cheers from Belgium
I can't imagine starting with such wimpy poser shit. How do you hear about heavy metal without first hearing about Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath etc? I feel like one would have to go out of their way to discover linkon park and Slipknot and that shit, whereas Cannibal Corpse, Deicide etc are right on the surface :S 😂
Maybe my opinion will be unusual, but I think a new age of black metal could emerge from an entirely new approach. Artists find unique & questionable ways to finish their creation but I think the creation of the atmosphere in a black metal album is how the genre can be defined. By contrast, typical musicians will argue that the music requires specific criteria to be met, but is black metal defined by rules or by feel? Perhaps this method will create a lot of trial & error and failed attempts to produce a successful album that an artist or band will be satisfied with. But it is my belief that the successful creation of an album will have an expression or atmosphere that has desirable qualities that capture the attention of people who are captivated by the beauty and the feel - but the reasons will be difficult to explain. Does anyone suppose this might be correct? Or maybe it's not right? Please let me know your thoughts.
Do you think mayhem is a good band to start with black metal im getting in to it I love metal but I want heavy I know I sound like a poser but I need to know a good band to start with
Fun fact, first time i heard Cannibal Corpse was in the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. At that time i didn't like Death or Black metal at all (8 years old) I started listen to Death and Black metal in my early teenage years, but still nothing will beat the classic 80's Judas Priest, Twisted Sister and others. Glad that both my parents always listened to that kind of music and still do today :)
My mother is a 60s kid so even now if we drive together I'll try to put on something she's more likely to know or at least not hate, maybe Razor or Slayer will be as extreme as it gets because she doesn't like death metal vocals, but often I will see her singing along to a Savatage or Saxon or Accept or Ratt song or something. Early TS and Motley Crue are great tbh. Good melodic hard rock/heavy metal. She liked the new Hellripper actually!
I grew up on first wave black metal, then got out of it for about 20 years, Then I started listening to it again. What got me into second wave is Satyricon- Now Diabolical. That's a very easy album to get into if someone is trying to get into Black Metal. Then I went and got into their earlier stuff. I love Dark Medieval times. Then I wanted to check out similar stuff, so I heard Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness, then I got into Emperor. As a fan of Celtic Frost growing up, it was easy to get into Dark Throne. But I would say if someone is trying to get into Black Metal then Immortal-Sons of Northern Darkness, and Satyricon-Now Diabolical(or any later day Satyricon) is a good place to start.
I bought Now, Diabolical based on the cover art alone and liked it as a poppy rock album but as I've gotten older I realized it's fuckin wimpy shit for posers lol. It's like, what I would put on in the car if my wife and kids were sick of my man music
@@icankillbugs Wow, you're so edgy. Are you trying to prove how big your dick is to everyone else, or yourself? Because you're clearly trying to compensate.
In regards to modern horror movies, I agree with you, one exception have you seen Terrifier and Terrifier 2? Excellent creepy cool movies! Thanks for this video Boris 🤘🖤💀
Saw the first Terrifier and it was good beside the acting that was really bad in some parts lol. The gore was awesome! everybody is saying that Terrifier 2 is much better so need to check it out
Cheers Boris..if you get a chance, you got to check out Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. They're a German Polish Black Metal band with a female singer name Onelar. 🤘PHENOMENAL 🤘!!!! Hails from California
Who do you think STARTED this music when you were just a kid? People your age or older. Were you already so set in your ways that you couldn't give new music a chance by the time you reached your teens? Lol. "Extreme metal" genres have already been a thing for 40+ years :S
Hi Boris! Thanks for answering my question. I appreciated it very much! Love your videos! Love what you do! 🤘🥰 As for the little theist and his delusional "truth", my advice to him is, he should read his bible from the beginning until the end, and ONLY THEN, will REALITY hit him like a ton of bricks!!! Also, ...an amazing female vocalist is Sandie 'The Lilith' Gjørtz from Defacing God!!!🔥 Big Hugs!🤘🥰
Thanks for the interesting info in this vid. Q&A's are fun! :-) As for the awesome Gthic giveaway, I'm so impressed with them. That's a mad amount of merch they sell. It was hard to pick one thing, but I'm really partial to their gorgeous forest stainless steel wood rings, and the viking ravens valknut sterling silver ring. Love your content as always Boris! 💀💀💀
Too many good things on the website to just pick one but here's my favorite for now: Celtic Knot and Viking Compass Stainless Steel Bracelet Had a moment of regret when I saw the hair beads cause I was like "oh hey, those would be cool" then realized I just shaved my head completely bald today after having long hair down to my lower back for YEEEAAARRRS....
Nice chat and all, as always, but... it's been 30 years since the whorld is in need of another BLASPHEMY originals studio full length, and all i hear is crickets.
hahaha true! I don't think they'll ever release anything new. It's like Vital Remains. it's years that I'm hearing about that new album going to be recorded soon lol.
@@borist. Indeed - ''you-know-who'' say they're still active, too, but with no news since 2007. Armagedda from Sweden also scored a 16-yr break (though seemingly justifiable due to what one could read on Bardo's gargantuan zine), yet those hiatuses almost make one forget about. If you sum up the time of absence of solely these 3 excellent groups, it overshoots the boundaries of obliveon above 60 yrs and it's insane. Deathlike silence. Post-scriptum - minutes after your reply, my brother tells me Blasphemy shall play the Northern limits of my country (PT) next April. Go figure...
Not into Black Metal ( although I enjoy Black'N Roll ), but always have a good time with your videos! I will disagree with your statement that a band isn't worth the struggle- to an extend. Yes, it is a struggle, it took me 30 years and migrating to Germany to find people I enjoy working with AND get things done ( these two don't always go hand in hand), but it is immensely satisfying! Working with people who aren't divas and their main focus is to do what the song needs, people whose creative differences are just that and not their egos getting in the way, is worth the struggle in my humble opinion! But each to his own and for the record, it never hurts learning to do everything on your own and be independed- it will definitely make you a more well rounded and educated musician!
🤘🔥🖤😍Great video my friend! Don't worry, I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth.😅 You'll have a great time if you go to see Dimmu Borgir.. they're amazing live!
never praised or believed in anybody honestly, nor ever had any satanic lyrics in my music. Nowadays Satanism or satanic symbols means (at least for me) freedom more than evil bullshits.
