Kevin, I "discovered" your channel about 2 weeks ago and now that my 2018 M240I is out of warranty, I've been considering a few modifications (tuning, exhaust, etc.) Thank you for your honesty and sharing your knowledge. If anyone is wondering, the M140i stock cooling package with 2 auxiliary radiators is enough to run full throttle all day at the Nürburgring in 35°C weather, with MHD Stage 1. Temperatures will stay high but stable. Power is reduced a bit, but no limp mode. However, it is not enough for MHD stage 2 HPFP, the car will go into limp mode eventually. The main issue seems to be IAT temp, which sits at 60 ish °C all the time. I had AC on though, not sure how much that matters.

The aux radiators have nothing to do with that. Your best bet is an intercooler upgrade and a heat exchanger upgrade.

@@azerty1604 My cooling is 100% stock. The OPF cars came with 2 small radiators. I bought a vented CS style hood though, eager to see if it helps.

For the m340i: Track Package is very good option , you will have bigger front brakes (374 mm) too. If you do not have this option they will be "just" 348mm

not sure how people can get an inline-6(35/40i) and not get the msport package, doesnt look like typical 4 cylinders bmw, better stiffer suspension, better wheels, nicer steering wheel, bigger idrive screen compared to majority of nonMsport and most with msport usually comes with other better packages like track&executive package(head up display) that are rare for non msport

For me I got it just because I wasn’t trying to pay 38-40k for a 340i. But I got paid 32k but also… with taxes and everything it was nearly 40k. Anyways. I did some good changes. Put a KWV3 after market suspension, apex wheels, spacers, and other mods under the hood but I definitely saved myself money from having just a M adaptive suspension on a m sport car. And just adding after market to a base to a base one. I also replaced the front bumper with m sport

A lot of people just don't care. And at the time msport was very common. I'd argue if you wanted to be "different" you just got a sportline with track package. Personally i love msport but difference of opinions

It depends where u are living on my country it's rare to see 35i/40i with M package even the M package come's with the small screen as 320i without reverse camera!!!! Poor option no better suspension or better brakes u get only the M sport bumpers steering wheel That's why I went for the 2017 sport line/luxury 440i even I paid 79k$ for it used one

I went to BMW to get a quotation for a tow hitch. They charge 3k€ and in the list of mods, they change the engine heat exchanger. I have a 340i M-Sport (no adaptive suspensions).

I noticed that on my 18 F32 440xi m sport both of the side bumer grills are covered, even though i have the aux cooler on the passenger side. I also have a 16 228xi and the vent hole is open for the aux cooler. One thing I noticed though is that on the 440 the mesh on the wheel well side, that covers the aux cooler is not as dense as that on 228.

Love the "intro" clips. So for a FBO build you wouldn't suggest upgrading all the coolers? And what about someone that would be drifting?

it's one of those things that you can do but it's not needed for most. same for drifting. i'm a fan of gathering data, then making changes based on that. if you're seeing elevated temps/heat soak when drifting, you can try it. unfortunately drifting means sideways which means not a lot of airflow to the front of the car anyway.

Hey Kevin, I just recently picked up a 440i with full m sport, the big brakes etc but both side grills are covered up. I tried looking it up and it seems like it’s because I have a cold climate version, I don’t think I have any extra radiators on either side. I’m going to pull the wheel liner some day and check for sure tho ✌🏻

Mine is Labeled M Performance down the side of the car. Has all the cooling packages, has the blue brakes, suspension, M Performance midpipe and Exhaust with carbon tips and many more options! Came with the mppsk 380 hp/ 380tq from the factory and it’s Xdrive which is now what the M340 Xdrive comes with. I lucked up and got a unicorn 🦄 mine is the 40th anniversary that literally came optioned out. Even came with the front splitter and lip, and side skirt extenders. Adaptive cruise, blindside etc.

It's good just a bit stiffer than KW and doesn't go as low. So it just depends on your priorities.

So just picked up a base/sport line 2016 340i and plan on doing some auto cross and even some open track day events at Barber Motorsports and Road Atlanta. That being said, what, if anything, do I need to upgrade cooling wise to sufficient for 15-20 minute sessions? I’d just run a Stage 1 tune while out on the track FYI

@kern417 This is kinda off topic, but are you running a stage 2 clutch with the docrace kit or are you currently still on your stock clutch. I have a 6 speed car as well. Also do you know how much the stock clutch can handle HP and torque wise on these cars. I’ve looked at many different forms and can’t seem to find the stock clutch HP/TQ rating.

Oil, cylinder head, and generally everything else that the stock radiator cools. He stated it in the video. It’s just a bit of a bonus for cooling capabilities.
