I’m buying my 4th Range Rover this weekend. It’s an svr. I’ve had every toyota, a Chevrolet, mercury, and other cars. All cars break and is a line that they don’t. They do. My current car is a Range Rover with 105k miles. Never had a single issue with it. It isn’t 1994. They don’t break that much and if they do there are plenty of shops that fix them. I’d rather have a used $60,000 Range Rover than a new $60,000 jeep or $80,000 pickup truck any day. There’s no comparison and if you just want a point A to point B vehicle they make those. They’ll break too just like all of my “unbreakable” Toyotas that broke plenty.
Well said I love my honda and was highly pressured by family to only shop Lexus Toyota and honda and honestly I haven’t had the best luck in terms of repairs with my honda accord coupe. Point being all cars break down and if you can afford certain brands why not!
RR's get a lot of complaints about reliability, but the vast majority are for the massive amount of luxury features and off-road tech they have. I have never met a person who had engine or transmission failure in a Land Rover because the engines are Ford-derived V8's and V6's and the trans is ZF---the best in the world. All the air suspension, wade sensors, cameras, etc. that is the kind of stuff that may give you headaches down the road; however the car will never just die on you unless you abuse it. These are 100K+ cars and they can drive through water almost THREE FEET deep while coddling you in insane luxury. IF you pay the money to keep them in top shape, they'll last decades. Don't cheap out-----leave that to Kia people.
Its true. Theres not much of a problem on the engine and transmission department.....its everything else. I own a 2104 RRS V6. Never had a problem with it. Had to replace the rear diff tho as this year's rovers were dreadful when it comes to that rear diff leak. I wanted to make it last quite awhile but screw it. Im shopping for a 15/16 SVR below 100k miles. First thing ill do is get that Crossover pipe changed
I live in a town where these things are everywhere. Many, many of the owners are my customers and let me know they are in the shop...a lot! Many get traded for other high end vehicles that they claim are more reliable. While I don't own one I see many of people I know in the shop for reliability issues. I'd still love to have one. They have a really cool factor and people who can pay for it don't really care what the reliability is. I'd buy one if I could afford one...and deal with the issues...
I have a 2016 SDV6 (306hp) and was thinking about upgrading to the SCV8 or the SVR (2016 as well). Do you think the SVR is more expensive to maintain than the SDV6. I know the fuel-consumption in the SVR is insane, but other than that?
Great review Ben! I’m on my second Range Rover Sport SVR (both 2015) and both are totally rouble free and truly amazing vehicles! A great comparison to the TRX I had in so many ways!
To answer the question in the title, it really depends how much money you have and how much patience/time you have for inevitable problems. If youre an old rich retiree with multiple cars, sure why not...
Know which rovers made a dent on the reliability department? Its mainly the deisel engines. I own a 14 range rover sport v6 petrol. No problem so far except that rear diff leak. Had to get it replaced, but it was covered by a third warranty.
You talk a lot of crap, just like all the rest of the people who would love to own a Range Rover! I am on my 2nd SVR and gotta tell you they have been 100% reliable and trouble free! Are they perfect,no but then there is not a vehicle out there that is!
I did 54k miles in mine. I bought it brand new in 2017 average 10,000-11,000 miles a year. I daily drove it everywhere. Only needed a service every 5,000-6,000 miles. I tuned my 620hp and it was still reliable. I'd buy a higher mileage one if the price was right
If u got money to spend on repairs, then buy it. It's a fun car. Of course fun comes with a price. If it didnt, everyone would have one. They look good, drive good and feel good. Just know that parts are made to break on em. Spend ur time and replace with OEM parts. Ull be less broke and more happy in the end.
How do you know they aren't reliable? Because you "read" it somewhere? Man, think for yourself for a change. I'm currently on my third Rover Sport since 2014. All bought used with over 80,000 miles. I've never bought a warranty. The worst experience I've ever had is a dead battery in my first and third Sports. They are completely reliable.
@@carycoller3140 me too. 2014 range rover sport v6 tho. Got it when it had 82k km. Now its at 120k km on point. Shopping for a 15/16 svr now. The one problem I had (which is mostly isolated to 2014 models) was that rear diff leak. Forums did suggest to get the rear pinion seal replace, but I just had the rear diff replaced instead of just the rear pinion seal. All covered under third party warranty
@@SkynetTeamDREADWING That's what's up 👍. I get so tired of reading comments that Rovers aren't reliable from people who've never owned one, probably have never sat in one, and probably definitely can't afford to buy and maintain one.
@@SkynetTeamDREADWING I'm also hunting an SVR. I can find one, but dealerships are grossly overcharging for them. I'm probably going to have to go private party purchase.
Still have my 4.2l V8 Supercharged Rrs and it's been amazing which is why I've struggled to decide what to get next. Bulletproof engine, only issue I had was waterpump. All other problems were associated with age/use or heavy driving. Only negative is averaging 12mg but I knew that when I brought it.
LMFAO That's not oil, hear the crackling and popping? You're seeing the feature work as should, it pumps extra gas into the exhaust system that intentionally doesn't burn up, it enables the popping and banging people typically associate with Exotic cars.
Dont buy anything used before 2015 u might be unlucky with crank shaft issues like myself. 2 RR's i bought used less than 50k on the clock both clunked out big loss of money. Turns out theres communities online of people this has affected. Anything 2016 onwards i believe is safe from this
Range Rovers are “project cars” so to speak. First they are the manufactures project to make complex. Next they are the dealerships project to get running. After that they are the customers project to pour money into to keep running.
As much as I’d like to take the plunge on one I see too many in my city with the suspension on the ground and for sale cheap which lets me know all ain’t kosher . I’m sure there are some that are in great shape n are reliable but I need Honda Toyota reliable in my vehicles . I don’t care if the engine and trans are A1 who wants to have a luxury vehicle with electrical gremlins and defects
Most cars nowadays can go 100k miles with no problems. It's when they get past that point they start to have problems. The people that can afford these new, don't care about the issues. They get a new ine to drive and a loaner if theirs breaks down. But the vast majority of Land Rovers, Range Rovers, Discovery's, etc.,al. are leased anyways. Off lease they were still lasting for 3 or more years. Technology is why people get out of these usually, they want newer.. These newer ones have not really had the reliability issues like the older generations. All the electronics are the newer ones are what is going to kill resales. But how much is this one? I bet it is priced significantly higher than an off lease F-150 Lariat or King Ranch or Ram 1500 Longhorn. So M you get a vehicle 3 years newer, still a V8 and better Technology. Especially in the Ram. Although trucks are still extremely high right now.
100bands fine that trash these good security detail care the 5layer kevlar window and reinforced door panels out plates on the bottom help from a ied occurs the Russians love these things shipped to africa too do all that I'd gr the supercharger one never know you have to bug out
Brad Hills…..you must be living under a rock buddy! These newer “British cars” as you say are not the ones of yesteryear where they suffered from poor quality and reliability,(like the old Lucas electrics) but all are built solid and with excellent quality! Get out of your shell and just go try one…..you will be surprised!
