Fun Fact: This movie had a budget of 38 million dollars, which is about half the budget of an Illumination movie. The fight scene going to Flip-o-rama both saved a lot of money and was very in-character for a captain underpants book.

Fun fact: Jordan Peele was so offended by Sony offering him the role of poop in the Emoji Movie that he temporarily quit acting (the result was directing Get Out). The irony of him starring in this as Melvin despite turning down the part of Poop is quite funny to me.

The Everything Except Fabric Softener store bit is one of my favorite jokes from the original books. It was born out of a scenario where they need specifically fabric softener to solve a crisis, and they figure "Hey, there's that one super store that just opened up that supposedly sells everything." So they go there and discover that this is what it's called. The fact that they brought that back for the movie despite it having no plot relevance tells me that this was made by the right people.

The funniest part of this movie is how they react to being put in separate classes. YOU LIVE NEXT TO EACH OTHER.

Probably one of the best parts in this movie was how George and Harold reacted to the separate classes thing. They react exactly how fourth graders would and it's written off really well.

I can't believe that this is probably the first kids animated movie that handles potty humor the right way

This movie was the perfect adaptation of the books in my eyes. They made the animation look stylized to match the books and the story feels like a different, but in universe version of the books.

It’s pretty inspiring hearing that Jude and Brens still kept making videos even after their teacher ripped them all up

Just wanted to say something since I’ve rewatched this I feel like Mr. Krupp has read all the comics George and Harold have made in full. During the whole Hypno ring scene, Mr. Krupp becomes animals that the boys name. Krupp would only be able to become those things because he knows what those are. If Krupp truly didn’t really care for the comics, he probably wouldn’t have been Captain Underpants. Probably would’ve just be nothing. But he does become the captain. And during when they’re in the treehouse, Captain Underpants holds the plunger and reminisces about the comic that probably had him beating a robber over the head with a plunger. CU, if Krupp didn’t read the comics in full, probably wouldn’t remember what that plunger meant. But because he did, CU knew what the plunger meant. Meaning Krupp probably did somewhat enjoy the comics. Or maybe I’m just overthinking things, idk. Just a neat thing I thought of.

I’ve always loved this movie, the animation keeps the style of the books and it makes me feel like I’m 9 again and I laugh at immature jokes

Saw this when it first came out and loved it, it captures the childishness and fun of the books so well, even the author considered it an improvement. Also the subtitle “The First Epic Movie” was a reference to the first book’s subtitle, not that they were openly planning a sequel. It did get a Netflix cartoon that lasted a few seasons though

The captain underpants movie is so underrated. It’s gold. And the theme song at the end is a bop

The fabric softener joke is my favorite because it comes from the wicked wedgie woman book ( I think) and it was such a small detail

For the Christmas season, I have three suggestions for MWS 1. The Star Wars Holiday Special. George Lucas tried to destroy all traces of it, but you can find it on youtube. Bonus points if it's the version with the weird 1970s commercials. 2. Elf Bowling the movie. This movie has it all: terrible animation, dated jokes, and Tom Kenny as the voice of Santa's evil pirate brother. Plus, it's based on a video game or something. 3. The Nutcracker 3D. A live action/cgi nightmare with prosthetic work even weirder than the live action Grinch movie. It must truly be seen to be believed.

Also, I know I’m probably not alone in this, but a lot of good DreamWorks movies feel pretty underrated or are not talked about enough, until Bad Guys and Puss in Boots 2. Captain underpants is the most amazing, life changing movie ever created. It turned my life around and saved me from dark times. If you feel that this movie is anything but the best ever made you cannot see true art.
