Is CCTV putting innocent people behind bars? 

I’ll be completely honest, the system is bias when it comes to people of colour so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s innocent, hope he had it easy in there

Juries are something else. There is an arrogance that takes place in jury rooms. How else can they confidently put someone away for 18 years based on a grainy photo?

There's something especially disturbing about the idea of an innocent person being locked up. Imagine what that would do to someone, not to mention all that lost time and freedom. Horrible.

The system is corrupt, feel bad for this young man and his family you can clearly see it isn’t him

These CCTV images should only be admissable as proof of identity if the image is clear. If a business wants their CCTV to be admissable, then maybe they should invest in CCTV that doesn't run on a potato.

There are enough ways for the legal system and police to make mistakes, without adding another hi tech one. 🙄 As an artist I can see the pictures don't match the convicted man. There is something racist and wrong here. I'm European but because of my artist eye, my superior skills say this is wrong. To win an appeal he needs to prove where he actually was during the crime events. It's so wrong. 😠

To be honest if was told to look at Asian men on cctv I would not be able to tell them apart. They need people of that ethnicity to help with the identification.

As a East African I can see that two guys look nothing alike skin tone hair texture but I can see why white people can get this wrong. I made a similar mistake with two Asian guys I used to work with I thought they were the same person

It's clearly not the same person. It's an issue even if this is not the only evidence.

Liban Yaryare was the worst of the gang of over 20 who carried out an attack on a member of a rival gang in a park in Leicester in 2015. He stabbed the victim & was convicted of attempted murder.

There needs to be a thorough investigation into the police officers who were involved in this case, and they need to be held responsible for putting an innocent person behind bars whilst knowing they had the wrong person, I hope he gets released soon

this is just facial recognition.. what about other evidences? were those other people his friends? did he know the group of people? what were their statements? if he says its not him, than surely the sudanese community will be able to tell who that person actually is from his accomplices. did liban not have an alibi when the crime took place? i'm sure all of this have to point to the suspect before any conviction in court is made.

Every practitioner must adhere to the Forensic Code of Conduct and as you can hear from Professor Tully, in this case, it looks like the integrity of this case may have been compromised. Remember, the 2nd policy in the Code of Conduct is to 'act with honesty, integrity, objectivity and impartiality'. Have they followed the policy?

He was in a gang convicted of fraud a few years ago too, he was given a 3 year sentence. Any other crimes? Were the people involved in those fraud crimes also involved in this too? Does he usually work or not? Channel 4 please be more truthful and reveal past crimes, if the others involved in the crime that day were also the same in the feature gang? Portraying this as a random innocent working guy who doesn't commit crime being wrongly identified and convicted purely on bad quality CCTV, that's not it is in this situation, right? We need more police and better youth work opportunities that work together to direct young people away from crime and into jobs. And skill opportunities so they can improve. Tories sacking 20,000 police and 30,000 support staff has caused enormous problems.

Were the parents asked... "does your child have this coat?".... "Do you recognise any other children or kids in this photo?".... And THOSE actual questions should indeed be taken into literal part of the situation as well. As well as the actual child himself. Prove of where he was, and was not etc. If the juries are now conclusive.. or have strong conviction point. Normally, this kind of situation, should be adjourned... and thrown out of the court. And then a new jury... or very specific juries are asked ? (And by that, we mean to bring in somebody that have an analytical minds as well as quite emotional types. Both types of citizens needs to be part of this when they have the discussions.)

No , if the person leading any form of investigation and analysis of CCTV is worth there salt then they will be able to use CCTV evedence correctly in the first place.

I'm sorry, but this is nonsense. The individual referred to in this piece would have been convicted on the basis of multiple threads of evidence. An attack was organised, hence phone records would have been examined, locations would been tracked etc. This film seeks to give the misleading impression that the individual in question was convicted solely on the basis of a blurred CCTV image.
