Actually, Martinet also voices Maio’s dad, which just shows that he can do subtle if he needs to. I think the difference is whether the writing/casting is made with both in mind. Jeremy Irons is very classically trained and the Lion King is very shakespearean. Iirc, Hades was rewritten to better fit with Woods’ interpretation, also he did mention an audition. It feels like, nowadays, celebrities skip the casting process and go straight to the pay negotiations. I also think it matters whether the voice provider actually feels a connection to the character and I fear for the most part, this is just another high paying job to them.
Hey this is a real good video. I've always thought being a VA would be really fun, but it sounds like they are encountering some unfortunate circumstances. Either way, good work!
Thank you very much! If it's your passion, I say go for it! There's still a ton of work for voice actors, and they're slowly working on studios giving them more big budget roles.
In 1989, Janet Waldo was replaced by pop starlet Tiffany as the voice of Judy Jetson in Jetsons the MOvie, all because Universal wanted to use Tiffany's celebrity status to market the movie. Google this controvercy and you'll see that this has happened prior to Aladdin.
Very well made video! Sometimes the celebrity casting is just off. It's fine if the actor actually suits the character, but for example I felt like Princess Peach's voice was WAY off, I liked the movie but her voice took me out of the atmosphere of it, you know? She sounds like a modern grown woman, not a princess in a pink dress (albeit a badass princess), her voice did not match her movements and facial expressions. Chris Pratt did a better job with Mario, but it could've still been an actual voice actor
Thank you very much! Agree on the Princess Peach point, I think Jack Black did the best out of that voice cast. Hopefully everyone streamlines their acting for the sequel.
I like this. It's a very levelheaded take on the matter and doesn't try to go all absolutist. Actors with big names shouldn't be passed up because it's "not fair" but studio heads letting their blatant bias show doesn't help. The Cartoon Cipher has some aspects to this with his video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xESTunkEtec.html
@@TheReviewDesk i’m not just that, but they also get the voice actors from the original series. I mean, just look at one of the tick-tock‘s of the Japanese live action death note
Funny how you bring up Transformers the Movie (1986) because the new TF movie coming out this year, TF One's voice cast is nothing but celeberties, and I think they're awful. There was even controversy when the Latin American dubbing cast was revealed, with Megatron being voiced by a singer with no voice acting experience rather than whoever they had for the trailer.
