I've had the 412 heavy duties on my 2008 Nightster for about a year now. I'm about 240lbs and they were the best investment I've made on it. Paired it with the heavy duty springs from progressive up front and my bike handles and soaks up bumps so much better. I'm sure going with a better/more expensive option would've had some advantages but i see no real disadvantage in the 412 shocks.
I had considered the heavy duty versions, but I thought on a sportster those might be over kill, and the fact I do not really carry passengers. Though, I am a hair over 203 so I wonder how they would have fared on the smaller bike.
@@theorthobiker I haven't had to adjust the preload and my wife rides on the back often so they are definitely overkill but I don't think they are too stiff
In Apr 2022, I upgraded my 2009 XL1200C 11.5" stock shocks to the 12.5" 412 with standard spring. Before the upgrade, the ride was so bad, so harsh and annoying that I didn't even want to ride the bike anymore. With the 412s, I enjoy myself and ride everywhere. It has been 18 months and they still feel great. I'm a bit heavy at 240 lbs and ride mostly on notch 2 of 5. I put it up to 3 if my wife comes with me. A nice advantage of going with the 12.5" is the increased total travel which really helps when you hit something worse than usual. These shocks are in my top 5 list of best mods. Stage-1, shocks, seat, LEDs, Shinko SR777 tires.
put some 412 standards on my 2005 Sportster.....I like them a lot...i wish they were a little softer.....best thing i did was install DK Intimidators in the front forks......my bike feels more Cafe Racer now than a Harley Cruiser.....Love it
They're not earth shattering by any means, but they do make a noticeable difference to the ride, especially if you have someone that can "tune" your front suspension properly
Progressive is very good... if you are of an average American male complexion. Circa 200-220lbs. I went through 412s and 444s which are 3x as much. Both hard as a rock even on lowest compression setting. I am 175lbs btw. 444s are a bit better than 412s and both better than stock. But slightly disappointing for the $$. And progressive doesn't offer custom rate springs any more.
I have the Memphis shades Delray sport shield. I have an older video that covers the install and thoughts on the windscreen. I've had it for a while now and it works really well, Even more so now that I'm sitting more upright and further back away from it. Though I do wish it was a little taller simply to cut out the wind noise in my videos
