Even if Brockman could jinx the Celtics by taking a photo with the trophy, what are the odds that no other Celtics fan between now and the finals obliviously takes a photo? If I'm going to entertain the idea of sports superstitions being real they can't possibly extend to fans because the numbers are too great. The hockey team raising the conference trophy? Yeah, that could make some sense because there's only like 20 guys that can activate the jinx. But if you think that your team will lose because you didn't wear your lucky socks, you're not taking into account the thousands of other fans with similar superstitions and the likely possibility of at least one of them would screw up.

Minus that part at the end, I'm with Brockman on this one. In the past I've been more vocal with my excitement about the B's and C's play-off runs only to end up heartbroken. This year, I've been *mostly* silent about it (the Celtics losing that game to Miami made me sweat for like an hour, ngl) and it's paid off so far. Hopefully it'll stay this way until the end and...Yep, that's as far as I'm going to go with that statement because I don't want to jinx it.

The idea of a trophy jinx only exists, because respecting the trophy and what it represents is considered good fandom. It's not about whether you think you can LITERALLY affect the game. It's about keeping the mystique of the championship.

Rich "superstitions are dumb" Eisen is the reason the Jets have had a historically bad run. Rich is the source of all their misfortune because he hasn't been sitting on the right side of the couch while watching. Rich how could you?!

If Brock man takes a picture with the Larry O'B and the Celtics wash out after an amazing season, he's gonna spend the whole off-season thinking about why he did something to change the team's fate. Part of sports superstition is having an excuse for if something goes wrong that involves you, and I'm on the side of Brockman on this one.

Excellent point by Brockman pointing out that religion is superstition. Plus, I hate anyone telling me I have to do something, I don't care what your reason is, if I offer you something and you say no.....we move on, I don't need to badger you into doing something you don't want to do, regardless of if I agree with the why. Personally I wouldn't take a picture with the trophy because it's not for me. Cool to see, but that is for the guys who put the time and work into earning that photo. Just a hunk of metal to me.

Nobody is superstitious until the ouija board comes out. Rich doesn't understand bad juju, taking a picture while unworthy is how curses start. If Celtics were currently defending a title, it's kosher. Since they ain't, don't touch it, don't think about touching it... Don't even look at it.
