Is Compost the Best thing for your lawn? I personally think it is! Compost is a great way to add good organic material to your lawn and strengthen your soil quality. Compost also helps bring grass out of dormancy in the Spring because it is dark and helps hold more heat and moisture required to bring grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia out of dormancy.

Great content. Thank you for your time and sharing the processes. I make my own compost typically for garden beds but now going to top dress with it. In the past I did sifted top soil/sand mix 50/50. For leveling/ low spots. Looking forward to getting my compost on the lawn!

Yes, you can mix both. I have done it many times with no issue.

Not necessarily, but it can, which is why it could be a good idea to test a before and after. I will be doing a soil test soon on my lawn to see where we are.

Not with the Landzie because it gives me a nice even layer. Plus, I level my lawn almost every year with sand so it’s not that much of a concern for me.

Glad I found your channel. I’m here in Clarksville and I have TTTF. I’m struggling to keep it healthy because of the clay soil. Going to aerate, overseed, and put compost down this upcoming Fall.

I struggle with TTTF as well. Seems like a losing battle during the summer months, but all you can do is survive through summer and the other 3 seasons we do alright!

I put down compost in fall of 2022 and noticed my lawn greened up early spring 2023. Didn't do it last fall and now my lawn is slow to wake up this spring. I'm in the Denver area with kentucky bluegrass. Plan on putting more down this late summer.

Sourced locally. Our city (Franklin, TN) produces it from yard waste materials. It is a very good quality!

Not only does compost add OM but it also is filled with the beneficial microbes and bacteria that aid in breaking down fertilizers that then feed the lawn. I don't know who is questioning compost but the addition of compost in lawn care and 12:06 gardening is is widely undisputed.

I 100% agree with everything you said. I think there are few things better for your lawn or garden. I think some people feel it is more work than it's worth, but I would argue the effort is worth it! Thanks for the spot-on comment!

I’m only worried that if you get a bad batch of compost that have other seeds and it is introduced to your lawn and you’ll have to spray more chemicals to kill out those weeds or plants.

@@Moe7133 it’s a valid concern. That is why it’s important to get your compost from a reputable source. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees, just like anything else, but it’s the best thing that I have used over the last several years.
