I know that feeling. I was practically crying throughout. Right now, I'm changing my field, however I'm close to graduating. So, thinking about going for my second bachelors in cybersecurity.

@@xinn3 what was your field?? if you don’t mind me asking😁
@xinn3
@xinn3 3 года назад
@@litmissdiva I was going for graphic design and painting with a minor in marketing. I finished my accounting and art history class last month. After watching videos and reading books about cybersecurity it clicked at the last moment of me about to finish up my undergrad 🙃. And I'm pissed off at myself for it. I dislike like math for the life of me. That was the only reason I walked away from taking cybersecurity. Then, realized the only math I was pretty good at was algebra; the others I was slow,quite slow with it. Take a math classes at a community College it's a tad cheaper compared to college college. The college professors are harder on you than the community College professors (so I heard through the grapevine). If I could start over again at the time i was 18 and chose to go to community College instead, than college it would've been and easy transition for me. My friend did that went into IT and she told me another student friend did the same thing only difference is she got her degree in animation. Had to go back in school went to community College than had to bachelor for cybersecurity. After that got her masters. So, with life you don't know where life can take you. But, since I'm telling you the issue that myself and others before me went through was a struggle. Even when it came with our mental health and wellness. I have given you this small amount information about myself, please don't make same mistakes I made. I would rather go to community College knock those core classes and other class like programing within two year. So, that you're ahead of the game. Once, you finally pick a college that's suitable for you to transfer. Or you can go straight college for 4 yrs. I still say go community College transition from there and be at college for 2yrs. At least with an associate you've already did IT helpdesk (don't stay in this too long, if that's what you want.) Because like I said it will be a breeze for you. plus, less student loans I believe

Sending so much compassion your way ❤️ I am 26 years old, earned a STEM degree right after high school, and then when the time came to enter the work force I felt EXACTLY as you described in this video. It was hard to deviate from that path that I was expected to follow - the path that made sense based on the time and money invested to earn my bachelor's. There's so much pressure coming from family, friends, and even just peers and society. People are so quick to tell you you're crazy and say what they would do if they had your degree. I'm here to tell you that I followed my heart the way you're choosing to follow yours, and I have ZERO REGRETS today. In the last four years I have grown and developed TREMENDOUSLY as a human being. There's so much to learn in school, but school doesn't give you the skills required to be true to yourself - you HAVE to develop that on your own. I'm so glad that you're allowing yourself the space to explore and free lance! If I'd gone straight into corporate after college, I am 100% certain I would have missed out on so much that I value today. Now that I'm 26, I understand myself so much more and am 1000x more sure of myself. Becoming confidently set on a career path happened naturally the more I explored. Once I knew, I KNEW and there was no hesitation. On top of that, I have full trust and confidence that if I want to change paths again in the future, I can and I will because I've done it before. I will never stay in a situation that doesn't align with my heart. Your decision is strong, and it will only make you stronger. Warm wishes ❤️ you said it yourself, you can do ANYTHING you want!

All of those sound truly amazing, I would say pick which ever one helps bring you closer to a job you’ll love. Cyber security is SUPER versatile and you can take those skills anywhere, and I’m sure it’s the same with data science & advertising. Risk = Reward, go with which one brings you more peace (even if it might seem like the riskier option! :)

One thing that I do to feel fulfilled is keep a record of my 1x1’s with my supervisor. I keep a OneNote full of each week’s accomplishments (resume bullets), blockers, and “next steps”. This forces me to keep my own metrics of what my contributions are.

There is plenty of subfields in cybersecurity. You're in such a great spot! I wish I had studied cybersecurity earlier. You can shift to other positions within the tech field. Maybe try web development, UX designer, or software engineering. It's normal to want to switch careers throughout life. We humans change overtime & become more aware of it as we get older. Yes, the degree thing is so true. Majority of my degrees were useless. I mostly did them for personal enrichment, to be keep myself busy & imposter syndrome. Now I'm in a crap load of debt

I started my cybersec internship this month and I know it’s soon but idk if I like it lol. Idk if it’s the company but it’s over whelming! I am considering development over cybersecurity but now I just don’t know! Idk if cyber is for me either tbh! This internship has just made me question everything lol btw good luck with pursuing web development freelance! not so sure now , because youtubers i see in the field say its really stressful on your mental health and demanding just like your saying now, i am currently in a computer programming course and after that plan on getting into information systems security degree, with my future career i want something that is flexible so that i can explore other things in life and not be a robot tied to a desk and most importantly love what i do. Trynna make the right decision before i choose my degree. Definitely looking for a remote job after i am done so that i can have some sort of freedom

Hello, I have several questions I'm really interested in cybersecurity, but because you're an expert in this field, I really want to know more information about it... Does this major have a lot of math? What are the beginnings that I have to do before entering this specialty? I am afraid to enter this specialty and not succeed in it. Is it easy? I mean, is it easy to learn?😭💔

Do you think there is good work/life balance in cyber security? I am majoring in cyber security but am worried theres not much balance and that’s something important to me. Thank you!
@techwithbecca
@techwithbecca 2 года назад
it depends on the culture of the company! It’s important that when you are looking into a potential employer that you check to see if they have work life balance. Calling outside of work hours, sending emails after 5 - that’s culture. Also regardless of where you go, it’s important set boundaries so that you have work life balance. They only have you for 40 hours a week, if they want more ✨they can pay you! ✨
