Who else wants to see Wes Ball make Mouse Guard?

I don't think his problem is he "can't" make the film as much as it is a bigger risk for him to do it without big studio backing.

He is literally working in Hollywood consistently, making hit movies and living his dream as a director. How is that hell? LOL He is no Scorcese or Spielberg but he is doing pretty damn well, more than 99% of aspiring filmmakers. No disrespect to you, but hell to me is chasing views on RU-vid.
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager Месяц назад
It's not that he's not doing well or that he's not getting great opportunities, but it's that thing for every artist who has a vision of what they want to make get snatched away from them and settle for something that exists already. Personally, I feel this too. For contract workers or even people in this industry, you have a vision of doing this one thing but in the end you take what comes available to you. You know it's something 99% of people would die to have, but you still wish you could work on that passion project and Everytime you do, it just doesn't pan out. So while you're successful, you still have that itch. If that makes sense. Sometimes success can be hell, because it keeps you from what you really want to achieve. But that's why it's posed as a question in the title. Is he in franchise film hell? Totally fine if you think it's still chasing for views, it is, but it's also not a title we didn't thematically think through how it pertains to his career.

I am not a huge fan of Wes Ball but I gotta give him credit for finishing his YA trilogy from start to finish which is kinda rare these days to see a YA trilogy being finished by the same filmmaker. Despite that The Maze Runner movies weren't really all that good (I do like the first one tho), I still appreciate Ball's effort. I'm curious to see what he will do for Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes

Love the video! And I love that more people are starting to recognize how talented he is as a director. Especially with his background VFX. He’s always passionate about the movies he’s making. Wes may have not loved the story of the last two maze runner books but I love that he stuck with it. He took it and made it his own. As a huge fan of the books, I can easily say that I also love the movies despite how different they are. Wes really knew the books and the fanbase. He understood what made the books so great and beloved by the fans and expanded on those things. The things the books didn’t do well he changed. So maybe The Maze Runner wasn’t his dream job as a director but I appreciate that he worked so hard on them regardless. He gave the fans a film adaptation that we always dreamed of and still love to this day. For that I will always support any project he works on. The way he still engages with fans and talks about the movies also shows how much he loves the movies and the fanbase. And we love him back. Can’t wait to watch Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes!

We badly need a Director who can manage the complexity of modern VFX-heavy production without this subsuming story and character development, e.g. Cameron is arguably weak in these areas, to the detriment of his films. Hopefully Wes Ball's career arc means he will ultimately become a Director who can successfully bring all of this together.

One thing I noticed about his directing style is that, he often make character feel aggressive toward a villians. Same goes to maze runner and kingdom, not sure it was Fox idea or he’s. What I know so far, when Fox use to make hit movies back in the days, seems like every villains temp to make the hero feel pissed and aggressive towards them.
