If Discord were a little bit considerate and want more people joining Discord, they could make Basic Nitro with 2 server boosts and for Premium Nitro with 4 server boosts since we are paying much more. For me sometimes Basic nitro keeps me happy just so i can use emotes & Stickers anywhere at all.
Remember the boosts are only free for the first month, so if they did give 4 free boosts, they'd get a huge bump on their charge for the second month onwards
@@MaahirMomtaz12 No, the free server boosts from Nitro stays for as long as you remain subscribed to Nitro. I know this because I bought Nitro. So if anything, a whopping 4 free server boosts is a steal and means it only takes 3 users with Nitro and 1 with Nitro Basic to boost a server to level 3.
I'd definitely consider basic if they also added profile banners and gif avatars/banners to it, but as it is right now it's not worth it just for emotes.
Thank you. I was about to buy basic, thinking it at least came with a simple, non-animated banner (it doesn't specify anywhere). Now I know I'll be staying away from it.
While I don't use nitro features much (except the two server boosts), I'm in the "contribute to keep Discord free and ad-free for everyone" group. I pay for nitro mainly because of that. And I do use Discord quite a lot, even if most of what I use is free.
That's a good way of doing it, and if you're, as ntts said, an adult with a full time job and aren't fighting for every cent, hell yeah dude. Go and have fun, its your money.
Unfortunately I don't see this working out for them. Someone new and young will come onto the scene for gaming voice/text chat and they'll go silently into the night, just like any other start up
Everything NTTS just mentioned makes a lot of sense just in general - supporting a platform to exist because it has no ads, and just generally for the emojis and no-headache uploads makes a lot of sense. The only thing I'd change is the thing about regional pricing on Discord: I'd highly recommend against buying from other sellers unless you know the person insanely well (like, in person) or if you know what your doing and in general can get it for cheaper (because it's pretty easy to get the Turkish (TRY) plan if you know what your doin'). Nitro is pretty handy, but only buy it if you can afford it; there's zero point in supporting a platform if you can't fund yourself!
Nitro Basic is just fine for me. All I wanted was emoji and stickers. What they did by adding Nitro Basic was exactly what I've been wanting them to do for ages, which was separate the features that actually cost them a significant chunk of money (HD video streaming and larger uploads) from everything else. I always hated having to pay for full price Nitro when the only Nitro features I use are the ones that cost them nothing, and Nitro Classic somehow didn't even have those things. Before Basic was introduced, I tried the "free Nitro" plugins, but they kind of suck since you can only send stickers/emoji as image embeds, meaning only in channels that have embeds enabled, and only one per message. It's worth $3 to have a better experience.
In Russia I can live on this money for two weeks! Before discord removed the ability to buy nitro, we still bought it on GGsell, Plati Market and other sites, since it was cheaper. We didn’t have regional prices, and on similar sites people bought subscriptions with us from their Turkish or Argentine cards, where there were regional prices. I don’t understand how you still pay discord such a huge amount of money for this shitty subscription.
honestly, i wish theyd just make profile customization free. like i dont care about server boosts or whatever i just wanna have a literal BANNER without breaking out my wallet. Its why ANY OTHER social media wins over discord tbh bc why am i supposed to pay to use a static image as a banner. Hate to say it but tumblr has more customization for $0 (especially on desktop since it allows custom ccs coding for your page)
One thing to keep in mind for "us older folks" too, before Discord yeah there were free things like AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Skype, etc. but a lot of people used Teamspeak or Ventrilo. That cost $3-5/month minimum unless you already had your own VPS or dedicated server cause you're a nerd, then it was free but only cause you already pay for those. Discord replaced the need for TS/Vent, and for most people it's a much better option. Plus it was universal. You didn't have to swap to/from multiple clients to game with friends. Nitro could be a little better/cheaper (RIP Classic Nitro) but it's really not that bad. The micro transactions are whatever, literally just cosmetic things not anything necessary. I appreciate their business model.
Why did Discord beat Teamspeak though? Because they were ✨free✨. Someone young and hot and full of startup investor money will come onto the scene when Discord starts taking a nosedive in profits and completely pull the rug out from under them. It's unfortunate but it's become a pattern in the online/PC world in the last 20 years
@@jamesbradley2468 Discord is still free to use I don't think Discord will ever be not free to use, I would expect to see ads on the platform before they went that route Mainly because I know people would jump ship immediately, I would personally go to a self hosted alternative like Revolt
I got it during the last 1 free month of Nitro promotion with Epic Games, and I've kept it since then. I really like the profile customization features (especially the server profiles), and the 500MB file uploads come in handy. So for now, at least, I'm definitely keeping it. As long as my dad's fine with continuing to pay for it, that is. I also have Vencord, and 2FA for both my accounts; the other being without Nitro.
Not really. If you can afford nitro, then nitro is better. But if u cant then yeah vencord is better. Bu the best combo is vencord + nitro (talking about other vencord features).
I was a Nitro sub since its launch in 2016 and the only reason was customisable nametags. But, when Discord stopped it, my Nitro subscription also got cancelled
as someone that shares game clips often, posting a youtube link when the file is too large is honestly a better option than buying nitro. All I care about is emoji use...nitro basic covers that, so basic is for me. Thanks for helping me decide NTTS!
I have a month free and its not worth 10 bucks, 5 sure id honestly buy that, but 10? discord thinks they are a streaming service with thousands of tv shows
After like 2 years of using Discord and I got to try Nitro for a month, it really isn't worth it for me. The only thing I really cared about was the emoji everywhere, and the free boosts honestly. I'd love it more if the Nitro basic also gave some boost discounts as well, since the price of a boost being that close to a regular Nitro is just a blatant rip off. In any case though, this is basically just a how to spend your money anywhere kinda video lol. If you have any sort of care about your spending habits these tips should come naturally to you overtime
You're awesome dude haha, had me grinning the whole time. Very informative, you're thorough with transparency, and you're funny. No wonder you're about to hit a million subs Thanks!!
I've had it for a couple years now, and it's really only useful if you're running a server. I run a server for a music label so I'm constantly sharing and uploading big files, so that's really the only reason I still have it. Everything else is purely based on aesthetics and pretty useless. I also want to keep Discord ad-free, but with all of rhe microtransaction garbage they've been pulling lately, I'm less inclined to keep my subscription
Discord should make a tier that you choose what features you want to use, and adjust price accordingly. All I want is HD Streaming and 500mb uploads, but Basic doesn't have that and I don't care for any of the other features on the regular tier. Like I'll pay $5 a month if if that's all I got, sure. $5 is a good middle ground between the two current options.
As someone who is playing a video game competitive, its pretty important to have good stream quality to show your raid what to do. Also having improved audio also makes stuff a lot better. 10€/ month is not that bad, when you are working. Other people spend hundreds of dollars for their car every month. I pay 49€ for my train ticket. Its all about budgeting.
Except mono audio from your microphone needs only like 24kbps quality... after going above that you will hear hardly any difference. With stereo you might benefit till 96-128kbps. Music is different from spoken voice...
Honestly, the only reasons I want nitro is for the larger upload size and custom emojis, however I do not want to have the nitro badge of shame on my profile so I can save the 3$/mo
The only feature that I (un)fortunately need from Basic is the extra servers I could join. A lot of information is compiled into most discord servers than websites, and while I am mixed on that, it does mean I need to join more servers to access said information. Add that in with servers I already use for friends or games I do enjoy, and emotes of course, then its easy to reach that 100 limit. If Discord bumps it up for everyone, I could easily toss Nitro away, but alas.
I've got regular nitro because the cost isn't a concern to me and use vencord and vendetta for the features and seeing fake nitro stuff implemented better in my clients. Seeing all these videos talking about them is a bit concerning though, I've been banned off of plenty of other platforms for using modded clients and it's usually better when things stay less known to the general public...
I'm in the boat of both "I like features" and "I like supporting Discord". The emojis and stickers are nice Nitro features, but for me, the real goodies are the higher server cap, the longer messages, and the bigger uploads, since I roleplay, write, and buy/share a lot of art; Discord is basically file storage for me. And I just like to support discord because it's one of the few freemium apps out there that doesn't sell your data, and that kinda makes Discord a sort of relic among bigger tech companies.
I use basic. If I ever need to upload anything over 50 MB, so, like 3 times per year, I upload it to one of the billion file hosters like gofile or my personal VPS. For screen share, there's a plugin so you get actual proper bit-rate - 10$ nitro screen share often enough looks like hot garbage without client mods because it's 1 to 4 Mbit/s. I care about the upload limit increase, 50 MB is enough to work with more often than not for me, and chat/emote perks, but not the boosts or customization
I created a post on the discord reddit only a week ago, asking this same question. I don't know if it's a coincidence that this video was made not long after, but thank you so much for making it! You did a great job explaining the benefits and drawbacks of nitro, and I feel like I'm able to make a much more informed decision with this information.
While it is true that not that many people use Telegram from all over the world, but as a Russian I can definitely tell that it's been really popular in our country for the last few years.
If you want nitro for cheaper use a vpn to change your location so then you pay in the different locations. Thats how I spent less when buying nitro for someone (i was trading it for something) here is what I would have paid if I stayed local currency vs when I switched it: nitro is £9.99 in england which = $12.49 USD Switched to US using vpn and the price went down to $9.99 which = £7.99 Paid less for the same thing
Most people are watching this to actually make a decision and choose what to buy but I'm just here because I need to watch all NTTS vids. its like muscle memory when I see the video.
every time i see people stream on discord with the HD stream, i just want to lower it to 480p, not because high quality is bad, but cause the HD stream is pointless there, the only thing HD gives there is lag and slowdowns for when you are doing multiple things at once, and worse of all there's no "adjust video settings" options there, if the one streaming has nitro, everyone must see it in HD or you dont watch it. so in short, dont get nitro if you want to do streams 🗿
I just wanted to mention this: as someone who actually buys Nitro for about $4 cheaper every month, it is not done via hacked accounts or scamming in any way. There are legitimate services that offer it at the Turkish Nitro price. It's obviously not a gift, as those are still full price in Turkish lira, but they provide you with a card that you can use to buy the Nitro directly from Discord. So yes, there are ways, and you aren't necessarily harming anyone by purchasing this way.
Nitro (full) is just overkill for my needs. Nitro Basic however, is one thing away from saying yes, that thing would be "8 slots for a custom soundboard" if only because I could see it being really useful for D&D sessions.
honestly I dont understand why people hate on nitro or people who buy nitro, isnt it just supporting a good chat platform which allows us to vc with out friends?
i just wanted free emojis everywhere and the profile colours. came at the bonus of seeing deleted messages, pinning group dms and an inbuilt translator when i got vencord. definitely a win since idrc about the rest of the fancy nitro stuff
Another thing about nitro is the gifts you recieve! I got Xbox Gamepass for free for 3 months thanks to discord nitro, and a bunch of other subscriptions. So in the end, I really think its worth it.
I don’t understand why the cosmetic stuff isn’t a part of the cheaper package. Most people aren’t going to use a lot of the other features and the cosmetic stuff is a huge selling point
no, anyway has anyone else not changed their username? i still have a tag and i intend to keep it that way, and i also dont _want_ nitro, but im interested if they still let you change your tag. id imagine no, but i cant check
I really wish they would just have nitro custom, where depending on how many features you want, you pay more up until normal Nitro. This would legit make them so much more money, as people would be whiling to pay for it, as they just select what they need.
Dear NTTS, I watch all of your videos but I have to suggest changing the title of this one. I scrolled past, read it "Is discord nitro worth it?" said no in my head and almost scrolled past it. Maybe it's just me but I still felt it was worth the note.
The thing about Discord is. . . I have an artwork of 57.8 MB - but that's already big enough to break Discord regardless of Nitro. It might be uploaded - but you can't load it in the app.
This video not gonna get u in trouble? (the section talking about the mod/fake nitro cliant) Like, its kinda the equivalent of making a public youtube video advertising a specific pirating websight and saying to use that over netflix and stuff; even tho its illigle. Like, this kinda stuff is what you share with friends, not really public youtube videos on a pretty big channel. (I mean no harm in this, I just feel it could get you in pretty big trouble)
for me full nitro is worth it. there is a lot of servers where i send assets, models, shaders, etc etc for unity and blender. so being able to easily post them, send to friends is just perfect for me. literally only reason i buy nitro and i personally think that its worth it
Fake Nitro does not work as it states, I had my friend who tried to use the modified client of discord with Fake Nitro perk enabled and tried to steam with higher quality but in reality it's only accessible to those who also have the modified client. (Assumption) Please note that neither of have any connection issues. Although sometimes the yellow exclamation mark does appear. (I use unmodified client of Discord)
I know from using it myself that Fake Nitro quality steaming does work(or atleast used to). I have actual nitro know so i dont use it anymore. You should see the selected Quality in the top right if you watch a stream. The Yellow exclamation mark also appears when the streamers hardware cant keep up, this will likely not be noticeable by the streamer because discord seemy to uses low priority so the stream will be the first thing to get reduced cpu time.
lol I remember one of the reasons I wanted Nitro was because of the better streaming, yet any time I streamed above 720p, the bit rate would be awful and no one would benefit from the extra quality. I had a good internet connection too, it was like 300 mbps both upload and download ('cause fiber) and my PC was connected via Ethernet. Had Nitro for like a year and saw no benefit to it. Some of my friends have Nitro and whenever they stream above 720p, it now just slows the stream down a bunch so I ask them to turn down the quality. Maybe it's just me, but it really makes me wonder why there's an option for high quality streaming in the first place (that you pay for) when it doesn't work most of the time.
for me it is definetly worth it. it's the only social media i use besides youtube and reddit. the free stuff you get is also nice. such as 3 months of Xbox Gamepass for nothing
(2:35) "you get 2 months for free", so how do I get these 2 months for free? By paying? Then it's not for free, is it? How can you call it "for free" if I have to buy 10 months of it first?
I bought discord nitro a year ago, and i still currently have it. Since im probably on discord more than a discord mod, I don't really regret it, especially considering ever since i got discord, i havent sent a single file under 8 MB. and i send a lot of files. This is just me though
