I like how Once Upon a Studio actually got Aladar's size right. Sometimes, you forget he's supposed to be almost as big as an elephant.
@bobcat24
@bobcat24 7 месяцев назад
Exactly. When I was a kid, I assumed that the iguanodons were roughly the size of a horse, or smaller. Especially when compared to the Carnotaurs. I didn’t realize that they made the Carnos a little bigger than a real T. rex at the time. (I was a kid, so I also sucked at gauging sizes when there’s little to no frame of reference.) Then when I started reading books about dinosaurs, I was surprised at their real sizes.
@jacobcox4565

@@bobcat24 But they kept the Velociraptors the same size as the real thing, so you have these tiny creatures as big as a turkey trying to kill something around the same size as an elephant.

I love how the Iguanadon beak is underneath the lips. The Carnotaurus being oversized was Disney having a “T. Rex” without it being obvious.

The cameo of Aladar at the Disney anniversary truly did touch my heart too bringing back great memories of that movie amongst others. As for the movie I still love it to this day feeling that it is underrated. I wish there's more to be told with this movie and expanded on but I don't want to get my hopes up that Disney will do it well as it currently is. Still it is a timeless classic that deserves to be remembered for all time amongst the other legendary movies of the past.

My sort-of theory for Kron and Bruton's nasal structures is that maybe they're something that only appears on big, mature iguanodon bulls, or even something that's triggered by high testosterone. Aladar, as a young adult, may just not be old enough to have a nasal ridge, but could grow one once he's in his prime.

The attention to detail in this movie is brilliant. Yes, the story is simple but the details in the background as well as nuances in the characters' expressions mean that there's always something to pick up on rewatches that will make people appreciate the movie more. I never realised the scout was eaten alive onscreen until Dino Guy brought it up. They managed to actually get away with SHOWING the scout get torn apart in a children's movie.

Oh wow, I had no idea they took inspiration from parrots for Eema's speech animation for beak! Yes, her name was Eema. I remember being fixated on this movie's visuals during my teens. It gave me the spark to grow my talent and love to add details on my drawings. Especially subtle stylized sexual dimorphism for quick recognision which creature OC of mine is female and which is a male when base animal does not have such differences. I know main Iguanodon characters are extreme and classic example of such stylization, but it was the movement that hit me. Also! The music! Geez, it gives me chills to this day, it's wonderful, especially Baylene's(Brachiosaurus) entrance. I did shameless trace over drawing with realistic Aurorus and ppl loved it. I wanted to honour that splendid nostalgic scene that way. Gosh, I adore it sooo much.

Your reaction to the Carnotaurus preying on the Pachyrhinosaurus was *LOL (😅)!* Thanks for covering this (😊)! I for one feel this is something of an underrated _gem_ in Disney’s library, comparisons to “Land Before Time” aside. Certain character relationships and character development could’ve been handled a little better, but those are minor nitpicks IMHO ‘cause there’s a lot more to the film that _was_ handled very well IMHO.

My favorite was the sassy banter between Eema and Yar when they got lost. If they kept that scene in, it would’ve added more characterization. Which was of the few things this movie kinda lacked. Why am I obsessed and love Disney’s Dinosaur? Happy 24th to Disney’s Dinosaur I practically grew up watching Dinosaur, and it’s where I got my childhood love for dinosaurs. And it’s my all-time favorite Disney film. This is the movie that introduced me to the prehistoric creatures I know and love today. I was only 3 years old when I first watched it and I immediately knew in my young mind that I would love it with all my heart. The animation has to be some of the most gorgeous animation I’ve ever seen thanks to the creatures blending in so well with real life environments. I honestly don’t care about the inaccuracies because the story, music, and characters provided with incredible voice acting always gets my mind off of all of it.

12:22 Speaking of T-Rex, the writers wanted to use it as the main antagonist for this movie but swapped it with Carnotaurus. They wanted something new instead of using the T-Rex, which has appeared in a ton of dinosaur films. Scientists at the time thought Carnotaurus and Igaunodon lived in South America (now we know Dakotadon lived in that region). Choosing Carnotaurus was better because it wasn't popular then. Edit: Dakotadon didn’t live in South America. Only North America.

The Carnotaurus pair that appear in this movie is not accurate to the size of the animal in real life, but dang it, I LOVE this design of the Carnotaurs in this flick. It's because of this movie that Carnotaurus is possibly my favorite dinosaur. Despite the fact that in real life it was no where near the size that the movie portrays them.

The music especially, the desert journey song is like the textbook "on a big walk/journey" song for me (and even my parents lol). Seeing Aladar in Once upon a studio made me so happy, like they included my boy! Definitely underrated imo, and its one of the reasons Iguanodon is one of my favorites.

9:48 It’s fun to see the names of the different species, since there are a few ones that I didn’t know about (such as Longisquama, Notharctus and Talarurus). For some reason, I always thought that Notharctus/the lemurs were ”made up” because, to me as a kid, it felt like they didn’t really fit that well with the dinosaurs. Nowadays I know that mammal-like species existed at the same time as the dinosaurs.

I practically grew up watching Dinosaur, and it’s where I got my childhood love for dinosaurs. And it’s my all-time favorite Disney film. And I also love the film’s soundtrack score done by James Newton Howard who also did Atlantis: The Lost World, Treasure Planet, and the recent Raya and the Last Dragon which I didn’t know at first. I only wished that I saw Dinosaur in theaters. In my terms, theoretically, if Spielberg used the same filming experience like in Jurassic Park 7 years earlier, a few scenes they would have used live-action animatronic dinosaurs with some close-up shots on the characters to make them look more real.

I had no clue the beaks on the Iguanadons were present at all until just now. I honestly do love the movie and do agree that there should've been a bit more character development but overall I'd recommend it to anyone really. Also there's a dark deleted scene involving what I read were Aladar's grandparents who literally sacrifice themselves to the Carnotaurus couple so the rest of the herd can get away.

Dinosaur was the very first movie I saw in theaters when it came out so maybe it has a few bias points from that but I really found it amazing to watch. I also lived in one of the area where the movie was shot, (The sequence where Aladar ran from the raptors and encountered the herd) and for a high school field trip in my filmmaking class, we went out to the area and got to explore the area ourselves so that was very special to me.

Here's something that always confuses me though In the cave scene, while Aladar looks for Bruton's body in the rocks, you see one of the Carno's body laying dead, and when the big one breaks out, you see another dead one's head just nearby Aladar's while he stares at a rock pile that seems like the Carno is breaking out of there when really he's left to Aladar and not far away either it seems It's so confusing, it makes it seem like there are two dead bodies, and two alive ones Can anyone explain?

Sorry nobody answered yet but I will give my two scents... I know what you mean. It does seem weird. My guess is its just the angles playing tricks on our eyes or maybe it was an oversight from the artists. Another possibility is they maybe took another shot out of the film and stitched what was left in there and it creates that illusion but I really cant say as it always confused me as well.

Yes!!! This aspect doesn’t get talked about enough. Throughout my life, I’ve felt like my dad has a lot in common with Kron. Strong leader, but many times can be too strong and forceful. And very short tempered. (Thankfully, dad has slowly mellowed to some extent. He’s not quite as quick to anger as he used to be. Could be due to his age, or experience. But still not a person you’d wanna irritate.)

I agree that Dinosaur is heavily underrated. It’s very creative how they filmed live action backgrounds and animated the characters with CGI, which is a unique choice for a Disney animated film, the soundtrack by James Newton Howard is really epic and dramatic, and the action scenes are quite intense, but awesome at the same time, since it shows Disney was willing push the boundaries of family friendly entertainment. While the story may seem basic and predictable at first glance, it’s not terrible, and most of the characters are still decent and likable (though I’m not the biggest fan of the lemur Zini and his attempts at being funny). I especially like Aladar, Eema, Baylene, Bruton, and the Carnotaurs for what they bring to the story. I also really like how this movie features the clash of two ideologies and how it’s not necessarily one ideology coming out on top over the other, but rather the mixture of both ideologies that determines the outcome. Also, as a dino fan, this movie had a huge impact on me since it introduced me to some of the species featured, like Carnotaurus, Pachyrhinosaurus, and Microceratus. So yeah, while this isn’t the best movie that Disney has made, it’s not the worst either. I think this movie should be given some recognition every now and then, and I give Disney a lot of credit for trying something different with their animated storytelling for this film, so there’s that too. May that one Pachyrhinosaurus rest in peace.

My favourite animation. Period. I would love to see Disney "clean" the noise of the cgi (because as pretty old movie it shows in some more action-packed scenes, cause I've watched it more than a 100 times and I didn't notice the carno eating the scout in the back till now) and release it in a better quality.

I think the iguanadons are onto something when it comes to heard formation. The slowest are always picked off in the back,so bring slow but powerful dinosaurs with you,and the three present are the last thing carnivores would think of hunting a brachiosaurus that could crush them with ease,a styracosaurus that could impale them and make them bleed in seconds,and an ankylosaur that could break their legs and leave them crippled for life

I love Kron's death scene. Not because I hated him or even disliked him. Despite how stupidly stubborn he was, he didn't deserve to die and the little moments of vulnerability he showed occasionally, especially after Neera knocked him away from Aladar and you can see in his face that he's genuinely hurt, made him feel like he wasn't just a one note bully. I do wish they'd kept the deleted scene that showed him going back for Neera when she rushed to rescue the baby Iguanadon but the facial animation, which is excellent in this movie, was still enough to show that Kron wasn't as heartless as he pretended to be. However, I still love the scene because of how brutally realistic it was. Kron had no tragic last words, no time to make amends for his behaviour, and the last thing he saw was his sister throwing herself into a Carnotaur that could rip her to shreds. As far as he knew, Neera was about to die alongside him and there was nothing he could do about it. Kron didn't live long enough to see Aladar rescue her, so his last thoughts would have been something along the lines of "my sister is going to die and it's all my fault!" It took HUGE balls to put such a dark death scene in a children's movie. I commend the filmmakers for sticking to their guns. Bruton suffered a similarly brutal fate and had the most badass death scene in the movie by taking on two Carnotaurs at once and managing to kill one despite having only just recovered from his injuries. When I was a child, I tried writing a sequel where Bruton survived because I'd grown to like him but as an adult, I appreciate that this film didn't water things down for the kids.

You should have mentioned the fight between Aladar and kron. It had its moment. There were wounds to.

They also didn't prolong it anymore than they needed to. There wasn't a single wasted move in that fight. It was quick, efficient and showed that Aladar was faster but couldn't match Kron's experience and brute strength.

@@tomnorton4277 They also used all of their weapons. Kron started with his teeth bitting Aladar, both of his spikes to blind and slash Aladar, and then his tail to finish him off

I was really hoping you'd cover this soon. I know you said it was inaccurate for the brachiosaurus to stand in Jurassic Park and wondered how you thought they could escape the cave in this movie since Bertha couldn't stand to break through and reach the valley. I always wanted Disney to do lion king with dinosaurs and it's close enough with this even down to the music. Honestly this is the only movie I wouldn't mind a Disney live action remake of as long as they have things prehistoric planet level accurate with designs etc.
