Good morning Chris and Emily, your breakdown was better than the actual panel lol I have a thought I'd like to share about Toy Story Five. I think they should come full circle and make Andy a Disney Imagineer, creating the first Toy Story movie. I honestly thought they would do that in part four. Also the whole sequel thing in running a tad thin at this point. It's time for Disney to come out with all fresh stories and retire the sequels. Have a great day!
For the amount of money spent on these live-action remakes, we could've gotten two Disney Renaissances worth of 2D animated movies. The original Little Mermaid, for example, cost half the price of the remake when adjusted for inflation, but still made almost the exact same amount of money.
Great point! Thanks for breaking down that math as well. That’s absolutely insane 😳 We feel like the live action adaptions always make a good amount at the box office, but hardly anyone watches them again after. We always choose the originals over them 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheHappiestHourOnEarthPodcast It gets crazier. The Beauty and the Beast remake made over a billion dollars on a nearly 220 million dollar budget, which is in any book a rousing success. But in today's money, the original movie made nearly a billion dollars with a budget of 60 mil. And last time I checked, they're not in any rush to retheme the rides to the remakes. In fact they scrambled to tell people that the Paris Lion King land was based on the original movie even though the concept art featured more realistic drawings, despite the fact that the remake made over a billion dollars with an upcoming prequel on the way. I think that deep down, Disney knows that despite these movies making a lot of money, it would've been a PR disaster.
Your opinion mirrors what I felt, too! A holiday special with existing characters I could get much more excited about. I am least excited about the Snow White live action. I read somewhere that many studios are doing sequel because that's what shareholders will approve vs taking a risk on something new. It's sad how that is potentially snuffing out creativity in films. Great video.
Thanks for the comment! 😄 wouldn’t different holiday specials be so fun? Instead of constantly getting sequels, a 30 minute special would be so fun to watch every single season 😄 And yeah same here! Snow White looks like it’ll be rough 😬 can’t get over the dwarves cgi…. And great point! I feel like they didn’t have to worry about that back in the day. Sad that it’s taken that turn. Thanks again for watching and commenting 🤗
It's crazy to think Disney went so many years without ever making a sequel - guess they decided to try to make up for lost time! 😂 But seriously, would love a 2D film. Even the ones with original ideas tend to all look the same with the CGI. That's absolutely one thing that sets all the old hand drawn movies apart and makes them special.
GREAT POINT! It all feels like it’s in the same universe lol. With 2D animation, you get to be more artistic with the characters. The villains tend to have sharper edges, while the main characters were softer in appearance. So much more expression! 😄
Yes, Disney is getting lazy either that or the funding and revenue may not be there. Imagineers just don't seem as innovative as they were back in the day. Things have definitely slowed down as far as original movies go. 90's kid chiming in 😆I think that theater turnout back in the day versus straight to digital movies viewed from home may play a role and the lack of marketing. Marketing and commercials for the movies have changed and taken a dip imo. ~JT
Great observation! 😄 yeah, back in the day, every movie was a big spectacle. People used to plan their weekends around going to see a huge movie in a theater. With the way technology is today, everyone needs instant gratification with little work. That’s why we’ve gotten more movies on streaming services that feel pumped out quickly 😭
