Alcohol opens doors to sin. Just keep it closed and don't keep stroking the doorknob.

Look man, I've got my convictions about it. Consuming alcohol would make me feel bad in my walk with Christ. There's a bunch of other drinks out there in the world than for me to turn to alcohol. I'm not trying to act better than anyone else. It's just a line that I'm not willing to cross

+Karlo Patalinghug Actually, I did not know that at all. I drink regularly and have zero conviction about it. I'm also responsible with it. I enjoy beer/wine etc, and I use it in moderation. If it is ABUSED then yes, it can easily lead to sin. Not trying to debate with you, just pointing out the inaccuracy in what you said. Cheers.

+regul8or its cool man i get you but hey as christians, we are in the likeness of God, pure holy and blameless. "So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to-the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires. Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God's likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy" -Ephesians 4:22-24 ; let us be more like Christ and not like the world. we are a role model to the unbeliever. do not be deceived; live according to the spirit, not the desires of the flesh. THANK YOU! I'm guilty of it too, but it frustrates me when legalistic Christians say alcohol is bad in every context. Like you said Jeff, consumption of alcohol is only a sin when we get drunk, disregard another brother or sister's struggles over it, or when we make an idol of it(as with anything else). I have never drank because two of my family members have had alcoholic tendencies, and I'm afraid I might also have no control over how much I drink. People need to get a grip and crack open the Word to see what it really says.
@jes202
@jes202 8 лет назад
We are not all legalistic. What some of us are is wise. We are not letting a door open to the enemy. We are not giving the devil a foothold to our lives, to our marriages, to our families. My heart burns and cries for purity and righteousness. It cries to please God and it cries for revival. But yes it is true ALCOHOL IS NOT A SIN, if you want to be technical and if you want to be a "theologian" but the whole point is, if it's going to lead you into sin.. WHY EVEN DO IT? God is looking for a spotless bride and He's coming back for it. Idk about anyone else but I want to go to heaven doing everything I possibly could to get myself there NOT just barely making it there.

It's really weird when people try to compare WAY two different things to try and prove a point. I know you're trying to justify drinking and that's okay. Im not giving you my opinion I am simply stating what God says is pure and right. I am finishing what should have been mentioned in the video. I respect Jefferson but I cannot agree to this. When you are an influential person, you are to be careful to what you say.. I know he meant to say the right thing but in all honesty, he should've talked about a spotless pure bride. He should've talked about how real spiritual warfare is. He should've talked about slamming doors shut to prevent the enemy from destroying everything. We need to stop trying to figure out a way to compromise with sin and to jusify why it's okay. I'm not saying this to be right I'm saying this because my heart breaks for people. I'm passionate for Gods kingdom. I cannot Just sit back and let people get mislead (even if it wasn't Jeffersons intentions) I crave to see people set free. I crave to see people experience the real true God. I crave to see people on fire for God. I crave to see people say, "wine what? WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS STILL?" Because we need to get to a place where it's not about justifying our flesh but about DOING EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO BE spotless. To stand before God with pure hearts.

50 reasons why I don't drink: 1. I can't be sober-minded if I'm not sober. 2. Alcohol has an assignment: destruction. 3. Alcohol is a depressant. Anything that depresses should be avoided at all costs. 4. I don't want to make my brother or sister stumble in the name of exercising my "Christian liberties." My choice to drink could lead to someone's demise. 5. Alcohol skews my judgment. 6. Alcohol leaves me worse, not better. 7. What I do in moderation, my children will do in excess. 8. Even the unsaved know I shouldn't drink. Bible in one hand, beer in the other-any lost person could point this out as a confusing contradiction. 9. Alcohol doesn't bring others closer to the Lord when they see me drinking, but further away. 10. Alcohol doesn't bring me closer to the Lord when I drink, but further away. 11. I want to be fully awake and ready for the return of Christ, not drowsy, sluggish and fuzzy. 12. Show me a family for whom alcohol has made a positive difference in their lives. You won't be able to. 13. I have never heard anyone say, "Wow, that gin and tonic made me feel so Christlike!" 14. I want to avoid all appearances of evil. 15. Alcohol makes it much harder for me to practice the fruit of self-control. 16. Alcohol causes me to lose my filter. 17. Alcohol is a legal mind-altering drug. 18. Alcohol is addictive. 19. Alcohol is a numbing agent for pain and sorrow only Jesus can heal. 20. Many regrets are associated with alcohol. (I can give you a whole bunch!) 21. No one has ever said, "If only I had taken a drink, things wouldn't have gotten out of control." 22. Alcohol causes me to act in ways I normally wouldn't. 23. Alcohol kills brain cells. 24. Alcohol is a counterfeit and provides a false peace. 25. The Bible says that no drunkards will enter the kingdom of God. Being drunk starts with one drink. I don't want to see how far outside the lines I can color when eternity is at stake. 26. Alcohol is a waster-money, gifts and talents, destinies and so on. 27. Alcohol leads to really bad behavior. It is a factor in 50 percent of violent crimes. 28. Alcohol distracts and derails you from living the victorious life for which Christ died. 29. Wisdom is the principle thing that I need to pursue at all cost; alcohol makes me stupid. 30. Alcohol has ruined many, many marriages. 31. The only influence I should be "under" is God's. 32. The Bible tells me to be alert; alcohol delays my reaction time. 33. If I don't start drinking, I'll never have to stop. 34. Alcohol severely tarnishes my testimony. 35. Don't want your teenagers to drink? Yep, same reasons apply to you. 36. God is holy; alcohol is not. 37. Alcohol and prayer don't mix. 38. Alcohol and Bible study don't mix. 39. Alcohol lowers my resolve to resist temptation. 40. Alcohol = Brokenness (broken lives, health, dreams and so on) 41. When the world sees us drinking, it sends the message that Jesus isn't enough. 42. Moderate drinking? How about moderate pornography or moderate heroin use or moderate lying or moderate adultery? 43. Christians are called to live a life of total surrender and separation from the world. 44. Alcohol makes me forget. It can make me forget that I am married, that I am saved and so on. 45. "I don't get drunk. I only have one or two drinks." If they didn't affect you, you would drink soda. 46. I should never look to the glass or bottle for joy, which can only be found in the Lord Jesus Christ. 47. Alcohol fills my mind with impure thoughts. 48. If it could hinder my faith walk or love walk or dishonor the lordship of Jesus Christ, I need to forsake it. 49. Alcohol doesn't help me run the race that Jesus has marked before me to finish with more accuracy. It does the polar opposite. 50. For any argument that tries to justify Christian drinking, there are at least 50 other reasons not to. The writing is on the wall. It's not God's best for Christians to drink. -Jamie Morgan Pastor of Life Church (Assemblies of God) and the Life House of Prayer (24/7 prayer). She graduated with her Master of Arts in Practical Theology from ORU and is pursuing her D.Min. at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

You lost me at the first point, because a glass of wine does not make someone drunk and not sober. Also Jesus Himself drank wine in moderation. The Bible says drunkenness is sin. It even says a little wine is good for people. Obey your own conscience, but Romans 14 says you are not to enforce it onto others or judge their freedom. Also I barely ever drink alcohol because I don't really care for the taste. But even if I never drank it again I still stand by what I said based on Biblical principle.

I turn 22 this year and this has been a big thing I've been questioning. I grew up in a church that believes it was okay as long as you don't get drunk, but then we moved and now I go to a church that is against it completely and I haven't had alcohol since I turned 21 just because I wasn't sure where I stand. I really loved the whole money, sex, and alcohol aren't bad but it is the abuse of those or love of or done when it shouldn't be that makes it sinful. I loved that. I still am no sure what to do about it since I am a member at a church that is against it. but thank you for this!!

Alcohol is one of the biggest killers in this world. Why would we as Christians want to be anything like this world. Don't we want to look different than regular people. Not speaking biblically but logically. Alcohol has always been a gray area so why don't we stay away from it. Alcohol leads to so many bad outcomes. Maybe not to you but think if a Christian sees you that struggles with alcohol. I think it's on you if they fall back into sin.
@jacobkrupczyk9993

+Jordan Braaten You are definitely correct. The Bible does say that we are to be careful with what we do because there are things that aren't necessarily bad, but those things could cause other Christians to slip in their walk with God. Having said that, I still don't think it is absolutely wrong to drink. As Jeff said, he likes to have wine when he's having a nice dinner with friends or something like that. I'm sure he makes sure those people he has over are okay with drinking it before he brings it out. It's one of those things that Christians just need to be careful with and thoughtful of others around them.
@kevinpalomo4069

@JordanBraaten
@JordanBraaten 8 лет назад
I see where each one of you are coming from. I understand that alcohol abuse is what kills. Do you think that the people starting off with a glass of wine said "one day I want to be an alcoholic and lose my entire family or kill someone in an accident". I don't think so. All I'm trying to say is it starts somewhere. Why let Satan have a cracked door into your life. No one plans to abuse it that's why so many stay away from it. if it's such a touchy topic why do we even put ourselves in the situation. I understand he says he is careful who he drinks around but he might not know their inner struggles with alcohol. I DO NOT judge those who drink. Honestly to each their own. I've been on both sides of the bottle. But as a Christian I want to be an example that I live my life different from the world ☺️

I like how you address that specific issues are more gray than many Christians make them out to me. While studying Bible and Communications at a Christian College, I have come to learn this truth. Personally, I stay away from alcohol, not because I am under covenant at my school, but because people in my family have abused alcohol. I would rather avoid the temptation altogether, than finding out whether or not I would have a problem with it.

Last night after church, my friend and I sat in my car and had a long, friendly conversation. Friends, at times, just need to talk about everything almost. For him, he had a ton to say about his dad and how he would go from woman to woman and one night stand after the other. Then we got to a point and he said last weekend, after his school homecoming, he went to his friends house and they got completely wasted. I tried to explain why getting wasted was no bueno. His excuse was "it was so much fun." Thanks for the very insightful video. Truly does explain right from wrong when it comes to alcohol and how I can defend drinking is bad at many points.

I absolutely loved this video! Not because it reinforced my belief but because you didn't do the old conservative route but instead you brought something new to the table and offered up a different way of looking at this issue. I agree on every front especially the one about us helping our struggling brothers and sisters and not flaunting our "Christian Freedoms" (which is a new concept that I've never heard of before!) God bless!! 🙏 😄

1 Peter 5:8King James Version (KJV)8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: If you bible says to be sober I guess I don't understand how that makes it okay to have one drink but not the whole bottle. To be sober to abstain from alcohol. Vigilant to keep a careful watch. It is scientifically prove that even one glass of alcohol can decrease rational decision making and impair judgement. So as Christians who want to be obedient to the lord why even play the line risk losing our ability to be sober and vigilant?

@@joselinmartinez3266 Yes it did. The Pharisees thought he was a drunkard because they heard he drank alcohol, which implies the alcohol was the kind you could get drunk off of. Paul himself implies the same, and says it is possible to get drunk on wine.

I loved how you explained it, Jeff! A brother from the Church asked me about this the other day. Personally, I don't drink but I don't think that drinking in itself is a sin. Getting drunk on the other hand is because, as Jeff said, we as image-bearers of Christ and for me, to show that you're drunk to your brothers or sisters in Christ might make them stumble and that's a sin. Also, when you let unbelievers see you in that state, they won't see Christ in that. It all boils down to being responsible with who you're with and for what reason it is that you're drinking. I definitely don't condemn our pastors who drink wine or anything, neither do I condemn my friends if they drink beer with their family or during family gatherings. It's not like they get drunk in clubs or parties.

hi jeff, would getting a bit tipsy from time to time without getting totally drunk lead to ungodly actions?
@TheCaseyVoss
@TheCaseyVoss 8 лет назад
The Bible instructs us to keep a sober mind, I don't believe getting tipsy would be God's will for you. And it would be VERY HARD for anyone to get tipsy and not be tempted to continue drinking. I know the question wasn't addressed to me but I wouldn't recommend it. God is fully satisfying if you make him the center of your life, trust me, you don't need that buzz to have joy. God bless!

@candiegirll
@candiegirll 8 лет назад
So real talk here. The bible says that alcohol makes the heart merry, and that is good, right? So the making of the heart to be merry... Is that the Biblical way of saying buzzed? Like just slightly relaxed and effected? Why else would it say, "makes the heart merry"? That refers to your mood and a change in your mood, so wouldn't that be in the family of terms like buzzed? This isn't from a perspective of a person who WANTS to drink or needs an excuse to. But honestly, if that's what that means that could put a whole different perspective on things like that that effect your mood. Not that we should be searching for things other than God to be our core source of peace and joy, but isn't there a deeper truth there? A freeing truth that doesn't have such a turned up nose at things like that? The most important thing (after excepting Jesus) is glorifying God-loving Him, and loving others. CONTINUED...
@candiegirll
@candiegirll 8 лет назад
Is it possible that realizing that God doesn't condemn things that make the heart merry (not belligerently drunk and out of control, but merry) could resonate with people in a way that leads them to Christ? Maybe if we "take God out of the box" so to speak, His true nature (the things that actually MATTERS to Him) could be shown.

I was addicted to drugs for two year and put my family especially my mother through so much. they never knew where I was, still my mom never gave up on me. it's been almost a year that I have been sober, but now I am struggling with being able to forgive myself for the pain that I have caused others. hope to hear from you soon. thanks

I struggle with understanding the bible and grace because I grew up in a religion that wasn't for God so it is difficult to adapt to freedom when I've been judged my entire life so far. if you have any feedback to tell me on the matter when it comes to religion to those who have come out of religion into grace, I would love to know what you have to say. thank you

I haven't finished the video yet but I just wanted to comment that I think drinking alcohol isn't a sin. it's when you drink to the point of intoxication and acting in a violent, belligerent, or dangerous manner. It's okay to have a little alcohol, but in moderate amounts. I think all it comes down to is keeping healthy and being a mature, responsible adult.

+MJ Tacloban I completely agree with you.....many like to think that just because your a believer that you can't ever drink. My wife and I enjoy going to dinner (date night) and having a drink with our meal. We have even had lunch or dinner with our church friends doing the same thing. I've never thought that it was necessarily a bad thing but it becomes bad when you get to the point of calling a cab or you need to have a DD with you. Moderation is the key!!

Great words, I agree. I feel like I am at this state in my growth that I will not condemn disrespectful behaviour at all. Not in the school yard, not in my house, basically not in my presence. Over the years I've experienced so many uncalled for judgements, even when I walk down the street and someone looks at me and feels immediate judgement and to categorize me, keep a distance, or being cold (for the artists to understand). This world of worlds, artificial and mean breeds contempt for people who they meet during their inbetween spots (sidewalk, park, grocery line! basically the coldest place in your local city.) when all I would've settled for was a smile. But regards to drinking I do feel stronger in my authenticity I allow God to come into my heart, when I allow myself to stand still in greatness, calmness, serenity, divine. And to support my friends who do not want to drink with an alternative choice of beverage (first you ask them = to help create new pattern pathways, that's what friends are for) and because it is a very rebellious move to say "(I know myself more than you do, so) no thank you" or "Maybe later I'm just going to look for my friend." Give people the space they crave. Nobody can live your life greater, more passionate, deserving, limitless, trusted life better than you can. I have so much to offer this world, and I can't believe I let those shaddy moments kept me in hiding. Wow. so as I write this I feel the need to come to a closing with a prayer I will do in my own time. And reiterate that I thank you for your message. Such as it is, O
