Mike the trick to amazon flex is to wait until closer to the shift start time before taking a shift because that's when I've extremely often seen $30/hr or more in the payouts. Also prime now delivery shifts are much easier as you just deliver groceries that have already been bagged up for you and you also get tips as well but it follows the same concept, the closer it is to the shift start time the higher the pay will likely be. So basically it just isn't worth it to take shifts days in advance cuz the pay will likely only he that $18/hr or so
When would you say is the best time to select the shift? A day before? An hour before? Are you not competing against others who may take the shift? I am just signing up for this now in case the other delivery apps are slow on certain days of the week.
PRO TIP!!! If you look inside the bins, there's a bigger barcode, that if you scan it, it scans the contents of said bin. Only problem that may arise is the count, so I scan to get the amount of packages, and as I put them in the car, I count. Because 1 time I had a extra package...
Never do a $54 route. Definitely never schedule them in advance. At least in Dallas, if you just wait until an hour before you're ready to work, the same 3hr routes are usually paying $76 or more instead.
Wow. I think that little nugget of information at the end really changes the equation in a lot of markets, if not all. You sign up for the evening shift, get stuck with a package, return centre closed, you have to return it next morning out of your own pocket. Wow. That could be a deal breaker
I turn my availability on for instant offers while I dash the lunch shift, 11a-3p and it's pretty consistent, it's usually Whole Foods blocks, which are very lucrative because of potential payout, got $90 in 2 hrs. I don't camp out at Whole Foods either.
@@BPrincess no but you have the option to not work that far from home. With flex you don't have that option lol it's not the same so bad comparison bud
I find it much easier to first somewhat alphabetize the packages by street name in my car, though even then it can be a little frustrating finding each one when I need it. Sometimes it’s because an Amazon employee would kind of label them wrong, such as marking a plastic bag as an envelope or marking a small box as a large box.
@@kasheem1747 Sorry I just saw your comment! And Amazon flex is usually only 2-5 hours per block and I’ve gotten no more than 40 something packages per block. I almost always only do one block a day since that’s usually what’s only available in my city and I do food delivery, too.
8:27 just gotta mention you and your bro have great energy and positive vibes. Looking forward to your next RU-vid videos about gig work. I work at a call center now and I’m not sure how much longer I can tolerate angry customers. I’ve really been thinking about just doing gig work FT in Southwestern Connecticut. I’m a single adult male, I think I should be fine. It seems like every W2 job just sucks the life out of me, I can’t stand for long periods of time and call centers are just the worst, but I can deliver food all day no problem.
I only do routes that at least pay minimum 23 per hours, and I have been very lucky so far just waiting at least 45 Mims before a route target time to get the big money block...I actually just finish a block which was a 4.5hr for $115 , got to DC and they gave me a 4 hr route which I actually got it done in 3hrs that's close to $38 an hour...its all about the waiting game and refreshing like crazy.! Lol. (DC Springfield, VA)
@@mikeohara1055 Hey Mike, sorry just to clarify I meant DC as an (Distribution Center)...don't get me wrong I do get WashDC routes and I hate it like the plague...always issues...mainly due to having to deliver to apartments which alway cause me trouble and waste time. The actual route I was referring too was a nice suburban area in VA...so it sucks when i can't pick my destination and only by a 50/50 chance I don't get WashDC
@@brandonohara4122 Well if for example its 75$ an hour and you dont like the job but you like the job at 45$ an hour thats better because you dont want to do a job for the rest of your life that is boring!
@@brandonohara4122 Oh but Amazon delivery is a job though! I have a parttime job that I work 2 days a week but my side gig would be answering surveys and making extra money!
Flex drivers are owner operators using own car, own fuel, and accruing wear & tear on said car. It's improper to calculate earnings as pay/hour. You calculate pay/mile. When you do it that way, you may come to find that Flex is not worth the effort, as did I. If you're making less than $0.60 per mile (measured from the moment you pull out of your driveway to the moment you return there to park for the night) then run for the hills.
@@rhymelcraig7975 I haven't punched in yet until after the commute... so why would they pay me? As owner operator, I'm incurring costs the minute I turn the ignition, thus require operating cost pay. Business 101.
First person that I’m able to take information from a lot of people updating us on these gig apps live states away atleast for me so hearing his experience from such a close location gives me a full insight if I want to do it or not
Damn, I had it in my head that Amazon Flex payed like $87 for a super far Address or like $53 to a Skyscraper Apartment and stuff. I didn’t think it was Hourly Pay. 😮
With the hourly rate: Do you then need to cover your own fuel costs, insurances, superannuation? If so there doesn't seem to be much money at all to be made doing this
I'd never ever accept block lower that 24 per hour, usually get more than 30 per hour at morning and around 25-28 at the day. Usually make 210-230 for 8 hours and many times complete block 20-30 minutes before end time, and average fuel per block is about 4-4,5 gallons on my car. So, it's not a bad job, sometimes it very interesting, sometimes trouble and nervous but isn't boring
Interesting video. Thanks. What about the expenses involved like fuel, wear and tear on a vehicle, vehicle insurance, taxes etc. Driving twenty five minutes in my vehicle would probably cost too much. Fuel prices are up, going up. I'd assume there must be a make or break between vehicles with good miles to the gallon and others that could lower income with independent contractor expenses.
This is what all these delivery drivers don’t realize! Stop and go driving kills a vehicle and puts it in the shop more often. His route should be atleast 100.00
In my experience, the warehouse that you deliver from is very important too. I have about three in my area, one is great, one is alright, and one is absolutely horrible. At the worst one, not only did I frequently get damaged packages, but I also got routes with directions that were extremely bad. Unprofessional staff, and their mismanagement would often cause me a late start of upwards of 30 minutes. Meaning I’d be finishing later than expected. The great warehouse however was very professional, good routes, never gave you more packages than you could deliver within the time period, and were extremely helpful. They’d also let us start as early as possible so I appreciated that. However that’s apart of the problem. Of all the gig apps out there, this one feels the most inconsistent. I never know what kind of service I’m going to get. Personally I’d take almost any app over Flex which is a shame, because I like the concept and find it somewhat enjoyable when everything is working correctly. Things just go wrong so often it doesn’t feel worth it.
I saw that a lot in SD when I first started, it got better and Flex has reserved offers now which can help mitigate bots. My question is why even have a bot when you could possibly make more money elsewhere?
I drive for Amazon and live 3 minutes from the warehouse. I am waiting to get on the flex app but I am hoping on my days off from a full shift I can deliver packages in my car once a week at least to get some spending money. There are tricks with the flex app like if you see you have a business you can skip your deliveries and go to the business first. If you are having trouble with the pin at an apartment complex put your phone in airplane mode with the bluetooth on to complete the delivery.
YO this is literally perfect for me because you're in Pittsburgh and so am I!! 1. Can you do a video where you do Amazon Flex for one week? 2. I'm a college student looking to do side gig jobs for my income until I graduate. Due to the schooling I'm in I cannot do a full or part time in my second year. Is this job worth it? 3. Can you do a video explaining how to do your taxes on these kinds of jobs @ the end of the year? Thank you for your content!! It literally helps me!! lol
Hi Marisa, check out this playlist for more on finances and taxes regarding gig work: ru-vid.com/group/PLIhOSERQjj-bZPPB6WYm99R3_G90fLbbv Generally I would recommend food delivery as a side hustle over Flex
thanks for this very informative video was very enjoyable , my question to you is what are other app gigs out there besides amazon flex and Uber ? if you have a list i'd appreciate the input . Thanks again
Hey Mike, over here in Canada I was told by Amazon rep at the facility that we get 24 hours to return the package so if i have shift next day I return that day but the Driver support team tells different thing and they kind of want you to return asap
Just went to Amazon warehouse to pick up for my route with ten other cars and we waited but no one came over and we all got paid and went home. Also the size of your car determines if you can get a larger route. Not guaranteed but it gives you the option that a car doesn't get. Back to the paid to go home. You won't get your pay in your account until 30 min after your shift was supposed to end. Example mine was 3pm to 7:00 pm (4hr block) but the pay won't show up in my account until 7:30 pm. Though I still won't get paid till tomorrow but thought I'd let y'all know.
I forgot to add that you have to wait 30 minutes before you leave and you have to call support to get the "okay" to leave and still get full pay. They'll send you an email and once you get it you're good to go.
Orders go so fast you got to be on it, did 2 Amazon fresh blocks today 4 hours total and got done an 1 hour(half hour each block). I’d like to get a prime now, those go up to $91 with tip.
Dang, that station setup sucks. The one I go to doesn't match the block times (but you just tell them if the block is longer than your shift to get a different route), they're so busy they just give people whatever. I had a 5 hour logistics block the other day at $155.50, got assigned a 2.5 hour route, finished it in 1.5 hours. It was same-days from the day before that never got delivered, so everything was "late" before I even scanned them in. Does anyone actually call the customer for late deliveries like the app says? Or just deliver them anyway because there's no way in hell I'm taking this package back to the station...
The $15/hr is the base pay when delivering from Whole Foods. There are also tips, but from what I hear they are not the same quality tips as food delivery.
You didn't mention overhead gasoline tire wear engine wear once those are factored in for low pay of $18 once that math is figured in with vehicle cost is it really worth being contract worker ?
For that kind of money using your vehicle your getting ripped off and your going to realize that after fuel cost and wear and tear on that vehicle. One trip to the mechanic will wipe out a months income! That trip should at-least pay you 100.00 using your vehicle. Package handlers get paid 20.00 an hour and they don’t use their vehicles. Oh yeah you’ll have to replace that vehicle sooner due to torturous stop and go driving. Your not making money friend it just seems that way for now.
It sounds like the shift was sabotaged from the start with the package included that had specific instructions to be delivered during business hours. With your shift starting at 5, that package should not have even been included with your lot. However, before driving 25 minutes back to the warehouse and completely out of my way home, I probably would have called the customer to see if there was someplace I could have left the package in the building, since you said there appeared to be cleaning staff present who might have let you gain entry.
It’s the night before my first drive…you made me feel really comfortable. ?? If I see a block that starts at 8:00 and I don’t see it until 9:00, can I still claim that block?
I can't find the flex work in wa state . In tri city area. However I've seen the cars and people doing it last year around Christmas time . How do I get connected
I did Amazon Flex 1 time....and I was over it. Lol The Distribution center is 45mins from where I live. So that's 1 1/2hrs of travel JUST to get the packages and get back to where I live to deliver. So nan.I'm good.
flex shifts in my area are $63 for 3 hour batch. Ive done about 6 of them and I always finish early. I think doing flex in rural areas is easier than doing it inside cities. I couldnt imagine having to do a route in a busy downtown area lol
Amazon is a car killer if you do AF full time, you must live within 10/15 minutes from the warehouse in order to take the best blocks, if you don’t you are dead and no worth it
I picked up a block and I was the only one in line. I was like uhhhh.. well it turned out they had 3 undelivered packages that needed delivered. So yea I got paid for a 3 hour that took me less than an hour. Only thing that irritated me was 2 of the packages were right next to each other but they had me deliver one then go across town and deliver that one and literally go all the way back to where I was to deliver the 3rd. Still though wasn't bad. I too have had blocks that sent me down dead-end roads. Especially in the country! As flex really picks up here in erie there are tons of blocks that are going for near 100 for 3.5 hours
You gotta keep calling back til you get someone in support who will do it, they say they have to be hiring inthat market. I transferred from Denver to Houston, took about a couple of weeks trying to get someone to actually do it. But then it was almost instant.
These llc people took over the flex app here in ct and it’s terrible people are quitting these logistics teams everyday like crazy they hire and fire people everyday it sucks I’ve been waiting for my flex opportunity for years now
Question to all you guys. I do Amazon flex in Tampa FL. It's super hard for me to get a block. I heard plp are paying some apps to take the blocks for them. It's that true. If anyone pls let me know. Thanks.
I just refresh the app a few times out of the day and will get some blocks. Theh all pay $18 an hour and I'm going to the nearest warehouse to tampa in seffner
Had my first AF package delivery shift today, not sure how I feel about it. The main issue I had was the app, which wasn't working properly at check-in. The attendant did me a favor by checking in the packages since I wasn't able to scan them, but he didn't get all the packages. I didn't find this out until the end of my deliveries, though, which added about 35 minutes to my delivery time. I ended up finishing a half hour late, and had to return two packages because a business closed at 5. Also, a lot of miles to get to and from the delivery area. I'll probably do a couple more shifts when I can, but the jury is out on this gig.
Thanks for sharing, the rep actually said I ‘didn’t have a QR code’ for my route so he scanned it manually which was new. Typically the Flex app will say you haven’t scanned all your packages and wont let you start so that’s unique.
Thanks my friend money is important I'm 62 it will be to stressful for me I rather not do it thanks so much you saved me a greater deal of trouble God bless I rather do my food delivery Uber / four dash or menu log / grub hub it's menulog in Australia for bless you are a fantastic person 🎉 happy new year
