IS ETSY REALLY WORTH IT? | Pros & Cons of Etsy vs. Website - Should I Start an Etsy Shop in 2024?

I set up my website first and it was easy, the Etsy shop seems far more challenging. Not the actual shop setup but getting it right with the photos and the product descriptions, shop rules, introductions this part has been overwhelming.

I used to have an etsy shop a long time ago and ended up closing it because I got busy with my regular job. I've been considering reopening one but I keep hearing how the fees have increased and that just stinks. Would it be beneficial to maybe have both a website AND etsy to help gain some traffic and just include a business card with your website info and social media's to help sort of drive traffic to your website also?

I have had a small business for 3 years now and I started with my own website. But if you do everything on your own, including the design of the website and all the tech stuff, its insanely time consuming and frustrating. (A lot of people use shopify but thats just too expensive when you start out) If you really build a website from scratch, its soo much work. Most is also really expensive, you either use a website you have to pay for every month or you build it on like wordpress but need to spend a lot of money for plugins. I started to really actively use Etsy about a month ago and I just took down my website, at least for now, because it was just too much work and mentally exhausting with fixing errors and maintaining the website, without knowing much about it. Now being just on etsy , yes its a lot of fees but the whole process has taken sooo much stress away from me. *_*

I have my own website but I don't have the commercial tier so I'm not selling anything on it right now. It basically funnels people into my teachable classes and operates like a blog (when I actually write something) and a gallery. I wouldn't have a hard time at all setting up 'listings' there, I just get overwhelmed with the shipping services that are available now. I have the Dymo printer and have been using it for years, but need to research which shipping service would be best for me. The Etsy fees are making it more tempting for me to just pay the difference for making my site commercial. :/

I started an Etsy shop this past Wednesday night and they have already permanently suspended it. Please keep in mind - I had TWO listings. I have NO idea what I did "wrong". I submitted an appeal and whomever responded said my account was permanently suspended and they went on to say, "While we’re unable to provide more information about the decision that led to your account suspension, if you believe this action was made in error, please respond to this email.". I replied to the email. I am shaking the dust off of my feet and moving forward with someone else. If they open my shop yeah and if not, no biggie. I am glad I am seeing how they are now and not 3, 6, or 1 year plus down the road with a ton of listings!

My etsy was closed as soon as I opened it! Don't really know how to get started now so I'm researching other platforms to use or creating my own website but etsy seemed great for just getting initial notice so I'm bummed:(

What is web builder do you use? Woo commerce?

I want to start my own site but nit sure where to start! 😩 i need to just start but i need help cause i have no clue and want to make sure im doing it the correct way!! Any suggestions please!!!!

Just getting started in this stuff...can you use etsy to help drive people to a website? IE have your Url in the description or would they ban me?

@amymakesthat if you don't think Etsy is great place to start, and I am too fearful to jump into a website yet cause I don't have enough inventory.. what are suggestions for another place go sell?
