I really don't understand why they limit the lots so much, straight away for me if they doubled the amount of lots available it would make this game much more appealing!
All the empty spaces I see for each world and the neighborhood traits makes me think a massive update is storming, adding more special lot types or spaces. Since at this point it's a waste of graphics resources just for shells and skyboxes.
@@emilykennedy2260 for the content in it I guess I don't think they would make a another extension where u need to purchase a previous pack to play another pack :) just my thoughts
I hope this becomes a new thing. For us who have to spend way too much time looking at loading screens, it would be fun to have something to laugh at while we wait :P
There could be so many lots in this city! Such a shame. It would be more appealing if there were more lots available, I don't even care if it is an empty lot. I want more space to build, that's why I build mostly in Newcrest.
@@jocelyns6078 11 lots, 4 apartments. Remember, we had 80+ lots in Sims 3 worlds. We don't even need that many, but there is no reason why EA couldnt give the team enough resources to add more lots to the world. We could at least have 20+, like Windenburg. Anyway, Sims 4 is all about little resources and huge profits, and I blame EA for it, not the developers.
@@beepbeep-m6m I personally think I like the small spaces and worlds. Besides if we want another space then we try another world in my opinion. I feel like Ea feels as I do
I agree it's disappointing. I expect each expansion pack to be better then the last but this one isn't very appealing. I do like that there are some new things and the dirty world that you can clean but I feel there should be more.
James is like the Gordon Ramsey of The Sims. It’s gonna become iconic to have your builds roasted by him 😂😂 James please make this a thing 😂 “Ah Classic EA build”
Love it when they Call me Big Papa - 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Ok relax. I’m just referring to how he always goes hard on the EA builds, I like Gordon but the good news is, that’s my opinion and you have yours ✌️💋😎
I know LilSimsie has been critiquing EA's new worlds and builds for a while but I would love if James did too. Not just because it's hilarious and a nice world overview; but because then they might step up their game, rather than thinking no one cares because only LilSimsie complains. I admit, at the end of the day they can easily be replaced but it shouldn't have to be that way.
I really dislike the amount of decorative lots. It makes the actual lots look so out of place even if they are the same style! Also the wide distance in between each functional lot in each neighborhood doesn't feel right. It makes the neighborhood feel so dead and lifeless even with sims wandering around.
Honestly, if they left the lots empty but made them playable, I would have been over joyed to build houses on all of them. It’s just is really disappointing to see so many houses I can’t use...
personally, I'd kinda prefer it if a world was just houses and zero community lots. That's kinda closer to real life. Not all communities have shops/bars etc. Somtimes you need to travel a little to get to those places
Agreed, also the decorative houses in the Station neighbourhood look very odd to me. They look like townhouses yet they're all separated. And I think it's to make that one starter house fit into the neighbourhood more, but it just makes the whole neighbourhood look very strange to me! Maybe this is a thing in the US and I've never seen it because I'm not from there, but it looks so strange to see skinny townhouses (in particular, the type with that roofing) with backyard space in-between them (not just to the back). I have seen them with garages in between but that's different to what we're getting. However, if places that look like that do exist; feel free to educate me and send me a link of what they look like irl! Maybe it'll help me not find them so strange looking. Btw, I like James' idea of having a group of rental properties that have set outside look (and therefore can be townhouses up next to one another, or flat units with garages separating them) and work like apartments inside. Would help make some worlds look more realistic, with more homes that fit into the neighbourhoods around them. Probably less taxing too; allowing more homes but not all are fully customisable on the outside. I'm fine with that.
Honestly, I really love that he gave Kayla the shout out here and Deli last video. Sometimes the Sims community gets really toxic but seeing the Game Changers support each other and highlight each other's strengths is really refreshing and appreciated.
honestly that lot with the crane looks like it was build by you (with some stylistic changes of course), I'm impressed with the amount of detail and creativity in this one also, where I live, these apartment buildings are very common, you see them everywhere so yeah, looks pretty boring, but accurate for some places
It actually seems accurate that like, the super urban neighbourhoods in City Living get the tall and modern looking apartment buildings, but the "smaller town" of Evergreen Harbor gets the 3 story bland apartment buildings :D
It drives me crazy that all those “decorative background” lots in this game if it was The Sims 2 would be totally customizable livable lots :/. We have little lots, ok but why tease is like that :/
Omg same also miss an open world where u could explore to your heart’s content, now it’s a loading screen u look at and hope it buffers quickly. ( I have crap internet) 🥺
James being so baffled at the ultra bland yellow/white apartment building has me convinced he'd have a whole whiplash if he ever saw what kinda apartment blocks the majority of people in Central/Eastern Europe live in lmao
I mean nowadays a lot of them are being painted in a more vibrant colours (at least in my sad post-communism country), but yeah.. (My block used to be faded yellow, now it's grey :)))
I think they look quite pretty when they are renovated and vibrantly colored, like many are in the Czech Republic nowadays for example. Also, they are really space-efficient compared to apartment buildings with only two floors. In Germany it's actually quite fashionable to live in such a large post-communism building, it's what the young hipsters in Berlin often do, as it's much cheaper than in the downtown area.
I 100% started laughing when you started calling for Kayla, James. Great walkthrough of the world, I really enjoyed hearing your pros and cons for everything.
Me too i love that they added it its really cool, tho i wish they've added one more or made them bigger as in wider like at least 3 apartments ... Because dunno for me they look like apartments from anime :D dunno why it just gives me that vibe so bad and i love it i wish wed have more related to that items too tho maybe someday will get city with that type apartments, japan or korean style vibe from anime that be cool. My country doesn't have that style apartments so maybe that's why it looks to me like anime one :D
@@tabytastick yeah, Kayla does it a lot, but usually the problem is that EA builds are humongous and very bad in terms of colours and shapes. Furnishing is not the worst problem
2:02 If I am not mistaken the only world that doesn't have a bar is Forgotten Hollow. Which is kind of a shame tbh because I think it would be so cool to have a secret vampire bar or something.
I want an apartment lot type. It would be so cool to have that. I get the roommate thing, but I would also like it if I could set up like a mobile home park or something with the tiny living stuff available. So, apartments lot type.
So true!! I feel like we were cheated out of that for strangerville!! Not every house has to be shiny and new! And not every sim I play I want to be a gazillionare. Give me some lived in homes and some cute trailers/rustic tiny houses.
@@chloe-anne5253 yeah not being able to custiomize appartment lots is a trash move by EA, The Sims 3 is by far a better game in terms of features, but is terrible in terms of optimization.
I feel like I’m the only one who loves the door with the weird frame 😂 I think we needed more interesting one tile doors. Think about the tiny houses! Entrances to fancy containers! Garden houses for modern mansions! Idk I really like the door.
Yes! Nice little tiny-intricate doorways are just cute and adorable. heck, they even scream "witchey" more to me then those great big things we got in realm of magic
I like it a lot too, I think it would look great as an exterior door, but wish they added it with and without the frame so we had matching internal doors
9:09 lol “this is what I expect from an EA build.” I’ll never understand why EA doesn’t pay super players as freelance lot designers when they’re coming out with new packs.
@@tabytastick Not to speak for unpaid work, but I doubt they would have to offer much for simmers to want to have their builds in official copies of the game...
Whenever I download lots from these players they are super expensive and lots of freemove placements so when I’m playing a story line I either have to make my sim work for ever saving money to move in or just move into an unfurnished house which takes away from the players hard work. So when I do use thejr lots motherload or free estate is being used. I like the ability to move into a house within a reachable budget and then decorate it accordingly to the sims personality without any cheats which I find the challenge more fun.
@@ella_komiya but loads of simmers has done those sort of lots as well - lilsimsie has plenty of starter homes and renovated builds with EA's constrictions. I doubt builders given the chance would have any trouble making starter homes more appealing than those EA is providing
I feel very belittled by the lot control. Like i get it, people overwhelmed their systems with lots, but why does that have to be a problem for every single player? I hate Sims 4’s babying.
“I’m excited to see what Kayla does for this lot. Kayla, you gotta fix this. I’ll leave the fixing to Kayla.” Hahaha! I love how lilsimsie is The Sims community’s official fixer-upper.
I got a teeny bit less excited when you said the water wasn't swimmable in this world :/ Old quarries filled with water are the best swimming spots in my country! I guess I'll have to put a pool on the quarry lot, then :D
I actually wondered if it was because in many places (not all), quarries are extremely polluted and potentially toxic. If you had sims swimming around in them, it might encourage people to swim at their local quarries without learning whether that's actually safe or not.
I mean if the team put some effort into what they're designing he wouldn't have to spend so long pointing out the numerous flaws. It seems like with Sims 4, they do everything half-way, get bored, and move on.
I love the new apartments! The outdoor corridors are so true to life! I’ve been hoping for apartments in worlds other than San Myshuno, so I’m super excited. I know I’m going to play in those lots A LOT going forward
It’s so funny hearing people say that, I will in Quebec where it’s -40 in the winter which lasts like 7 months out of the year so outdoor corridors are unheard of here!
Why are there so many decorative lots!? They're completely USELESS! I miss the Sims 2 worlds in the lots aspect and I miss the Sims 3 world in the aspect that we could move around in it and that Cars actually had a function.
Stettafire The Sims 3 is on Steam, not The Sims 2. TS2 is not purchasable on Steam or Origin which is frustrating. Seems there's guides to get it to work on newer systems just fine though if you have it. I know Plumbella has far more issues running TS1 than TS2 btw, seems the latter runs fine for her.
Man why couldn’t we have more lots? Like all those deco tiny houses could have been perfect tiny lots to make the world feel more alive and full. And way more realistic middle low class suburb. Lol why is the old mill the only good lot they have ever built lol Edit: correction. The crane lot is the best lost they ever made. Who ever made those two lots did a great job compared to pass lots lmfao Would have genius to add like a townhouse rental system for those deco lots like you said have apartments/townhouses that you can’t change. I don’t think performance is really an excuse.. like who is running games on low end anymore. Low end barely exists now a days lol. Unless your running something from 2013 lol but yeah reason I say they should have implemented townhouse renting system in those deco houses is because people are gonna be mad about apartments being in this pack just you watch. Someone’s gonna be pissed they paid for city living
even on my parents’ old computer from 2009, i could run the game fairly smoothly!! I understand they’re trying to make the game more accessible, but if it can be run on that computer, it can be run on even lower-end ones as well!
Rosie Rodrigues exactly like I have multiple computers because I built them. And my beef cake runs it at 300fps. My shittiest computer and laptop can run at 60 which is the desired mark for any game.
Actually, I appreciate that they make the game accessible to everyone. I only have three expansions and one stuff pack and sometimes Sims 4 freezes and is slow. I couldn’t play the game at all if every pack had like 30 lots and lots of objects in each one.
You know what's funny, my PC is from 2012. It has Windows 7 still (shhh, I love Windows 7 ok? One day I'll move forward when it becomes an actual issue for me ... but still working fine so far). But it's somewhat a gaming rig. I say somewhat; I got it because I was fed up with how Photoshop ran on my old PC while using lots of layers. I was like PLEASE GIVE ME LOTS OF RAM, and a half decent graphics card. Anyway, runs TS4 perfectly on all the highest settings! So it really makes me wonder what the fuck some other people's rigs are, especially when I've seen someone say they have an "old gaming pc" yet can only play on medium settings. I couldn't be bothered arguing with that comment when I saw it the other day, just scrolled past like "suuurreee". 😂 If you're PC is so old it can't run most recent PC games on the lowest settings (lower settings are there for a reason, TS4 even has a laptop mode (which does affect the graphics) which is very nice of them), maybe it's time to move on? Consoles move forward eventually (games only come out on the new ones), so do phones (no more updates, and so apps stop working because they no longer support the old hardware ... happened to my old iPad) ... if things aren't able to run, then I say maybe it's about time you update your god damn PC?! - sigh - Sorry ... had to make that rant.
I love how all the sim youtubers like each other and know what they like to do in their games. like James mentioning Kayla here and she recently used his pack generator in a video, and of course, James and Deli are really good friends, they're all so cute
it looks like an old train station to me. The building shape with the roofed platform and the old railways next to it give off abandoned train station vibes to me.
I live in Portsmouth, England and we have a Promenade....I can tell you it looks nothing like that luckily. But I’m glad to see my city - as a port and the home of the Royal Navy - get a mention in a sim build name
it baffles me how the sims is being produced by a million dollar company and they still can't be bothered to look for an employee who is at least a decent builder
If everything was pretty they would be taking away half the game play. Some people like to play in crap houses to build them nice themselves, and loke to see the change. Sort of like how this pack will be.
Watching this in 2022 and I'm really happy they had actual simmers build the lots for Snowy Escapes and Cottage Living. I do hope they stick to this for whenever the Sims 5 releases. Or another world for the Sims 4.
When I saw the exterior of the crane lot, first thought was that EA finally hired some community builders. It's exactly the kind of starter house I would expect you to build in a shipyard, lol
that one house with the weird roof and tall walls seems like it was just put there to tick off Kayla tbh, it looks like they put in everything she'd nag on xD
My issue is how can you give a new world and really slack on amount of lots. Maybe give an option to add more lots if ur spec can handle it? The struggle for this pack for myself is how to move to this new world (or make it replayable) instead of just putting a community lot in windenburg instead. Also we need to be allowed to make our own apartment lots, i think that would be a cool feature, especially to make up for lack of lots of a world, if i want to go crazy and have a 3 floor 5 apartment lot of laggy craziness let me do it 😝
i really think this game needs some sort of update that adds some extra detail animatuions to the game like sims2 had and to add the features of the expansion pack sto the other worlds, even if only the basegame worlds, like the ocean swimming and this clean/dirty can that be added to other worlds?
Okay those apartment complexes remind me so much of the high rises we have in the Netherlands. There are so many design elements and architectural features, like, I can finally recreate my childhood home with ease?? Man, this pack. I love it. Really feels like home
MORE APARTMENTS! city living is still my favorite pack. I’m honestly excited for this pack, I prefer more realistic play over stuff like magic and vampires.
Finally I can say it. Happy you like the crane lot. I also saw your comment under my video. But so much was going on at the time, so I didn't respond right away. I hope in the future more simmers from around the world get to create houses for the packs. Would love to see one from you for example.
Why did James change his name from The Sim Supply to James Turner? What was the catalyst for him doing so? And why the heck are EA refusing to acknowledge his name change in the first place? What the hell happened?
When there's missing objects, I just assume it was content that was meant to be in the pack, but taken out in the final cut. Then, EA rushes to send it out to platform simmers, not going through and fixing their mistakes. For a $20 pack, you can afford to spend an extra 20 minutes checking lots...
I feel like crying when I'm looking at those builds. It's good that we can just change them all and forget about them, but... EA, all of us paid hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars for all the game packs, HIRE SOMEONE WHO CAN BUILD WITH THAT MONEY
I like moving into crap EA houses and making them nice through game play. If everything was nice half the game play would be gone. Just make your own nice houses.
glorybr just because Kayla happens to like them doesn't mean that other people are going to. She's not the "one all, be all" of the Sims 4.. And there are definitely more talented sims builders here on RU-vid 🤷🏻♀️
@@tabytastick true, but the thing is, not everyone is a talented builder. If you can build, you can change even nice looking home into something better, but if you can't and for some reasons you don't have an access to the gallery, you're stuck with an ugly building... :(
@@tabytastick Isn't the point of buying the game is to have it ready for you? Why is it the player's job to make it better? That's the weirdest excuse I've ever heard
Again, SO GORGEOUS! The neighbourhoods have so much personality to them, and don't look like a super generic suburb. I'm a sucker for apartments so LOVING THIS. Now, can you imagine being able to set the number of playable lots in the configurations, so people with slower computers could set it to a low number so the game runs better, but people with beefy computers could get more lots?
The eco part of this could have easily been added with island living. Why introduce off the grid and other options with IL then add more on a seperate pack? Could have been combined! They just want to pry more money for each individual pack
This world reminds me of my in real life hometown. Post industrial. Converted mills. Some abandoned areas or more rundown areas. Lots of brick structures. We even have a large quarry too so honestly this world makes me feel a little at home :D Especially considering I don't live in my hometown any more it'll be nice to get a little nostalgia even if it's not exact! Definitely excited for it!
I can't get over how perfectly the craft pack we voted on and this eco lifestyle pack work together. I can really see my game being inriched by them both in a combination. Love it!
I like the idea of a coalmine patch vibe like the quarry nieghborhood. Patches are common where I'm from and you never see them in games/TV/movies/etc.
What I noticed with the second set of apartments you showed is that everything in it looks to be basegame instead of furnished with items from the pack, in fact a lot of them are looking like they are furnished basegame instead of items from the pack. I've noticed this with a lot of the builds in the last couple packs, most notably the bar in Realm of Magic. I know you hate that one and its fine, but they put a bar in a world that is geared toward magic and the bar is ENTIRELY basegame rather than using anything from the packs. Whats the point of furnishing lots in an expansion with only basegame items? They did the same thing with a house in Sulani, it was built to look like it belonged but all of the furnishings and inside walls were basegame. That sort of thing bothers me in that I expect the "starter house" will still have items from the new pack, and especially the bar that they feel the need to place in every neighborhood.
The bar is on the highly poluted area.. maybe that's why it's so 'bad' and 'empty'. Once it get's better, maybe... so does the bar? If the environment can change when the polution does, maybe the buildings too?
Even though they're not playable, I really love how there are so many suburban houses lined up like that - Oasis Springs is the only place that really has anything like that, the give and take being that they're all playable in Oasis Springs but also there's a lot less houses to look at in the world. I like how realistic it looks for a very middle-class style.
i have a challenge for you. the bunker build challenge. it is basically what it says build a bunker house. RULES: EVERYTHING BUT THE ENTRY OF THE BUNKER HAS TO BE UNDERGROUND. You can only use bunker like doors and stairs. You can only use small TV 's. FLAT ROOFS ONLY. No windows. No lamps or hanging lights. You CANNOT USE COUCHES. tables for 2 only. No stoves only microwaves. and well i think you get it by now. :) happy building. Oh and ya and your sim must survive in your bunker for a month(30 sim days) with limited money(you choose) and without exiting the bunker. You can build with infinite money.
The multiple lot thing would be really cool thing to use for bar lots. They could have spas and gyms and what not as an option that gets unlocked with each pack
