Yay for Final Fantasy VI. I can see why you get burned out by this games at some points, it´s worth grinding trough those. This version has QoL features to make the grind less.
@@GenesisVII As for the sentimental aspect. I was born in 83, grow up playing my uncle's childhood Atari, and NES. The SNES was my first console. Original GB being my first game system. I just remember the marketing for FF IV being so badass as a child. I didn't even know what an RPG was. That same uncle and I were both introduced to The FF world with IV. We spent hours and hours exploring and grinding through the game. We unfortunately never beat it but remember doing it for the first time in my late 20s. I've played all the versions over the years. Love them all! I still have my original copy of FF IV in my collection. It will forever be my favorite of the series. Also have my original copy of VI. Thanks for asking!
I still haven’t done 5 yet 😂 but I’m hoping to get back to it next month. Luckily I know that game like the back of my hand so I can pick up whenever, wherever lol. 6 is a hell of a gem too. Such a wonderful game and gotta agree on that ATB. I crank the speed all the way up because it’s torturously slow! Great job on another plat!!! I feel like a cheater when it comes to 7. I literally just have to play disc 1 as I’m only missing the Best Bromance.
I don't blame you, Zelda, Diablo and then FFXVI!? I have no idea how I had the time hahaha. And I'll tell you a secret, I only need the Complete the Game trophy, I managed to do all the hard stuff on my endgame file. So I've decided to play through the story one more time just so it's fresh on my mind when I get to recording the video
@@GenesisVII at least you have to play through the whole thing haha. I’m platinum after disc 1 but that’s because I play it so much and hate being mean to the ladies. 😂 For real though, I even put TOTK on pause to do early access for Diablo. I’m never finishing any of this any time soon haha!!
I'm currently 20 hours in and I've got to be honest it does feel like a bit of a slog. It's not a bad game at all, I like Locke and Celes' dynamic for example, but I think I personally don't like that there isn't a clear main character to point to. I plan on finishing it but I think I just over hyped this game and it ended up harming my experience.
As a longtime gamer at age 41 now that’s been playing video games since 5 years old, I have played most video games from their inception, games like Super Mario Bros. Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Metal Gear, Castlevania, Contra, Ninja Gaiden, TMNT, Maniac Mansion, Double Dragon, Metroid, Ghost and Goblins, Final Fantasy, Star Fox, Street Fighter, Final Fight, Mortal Kombat, Mega Man X, Art of Fighting, King of Fighters, Secret of Evermore, Super Mario RPG, DooM, Mystical Ninja, Shinobi, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Clock Tower, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Tenchu, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, Max Payne, Far Cry, Grand Theft Auto, Batman Arkham Series, Red Dead Redemption, and finally the current day FromSoft games library such as The Dark Souls Trilogy, Bloodborne, Sekiro and Elden Ring. I have played them all, and so many of their prequels, sequels, spinoffs, remakes, remasters, and continuations of every single franchise that I mentioned, as well as many other games in between that I could not mention because I would probably be here all day lol 😆. Quiet or not know franchises like Lufia series, Y’s, Rushing Beat trilogy, Manhunt, No More Heroes, & many many more. After everything I have played and been through throughout my life, I will always put Final Fantasy VI as the greatest video game that I ever played and is my favorite of the entire FF franchise, I had the most memorable experience when I first played through the entire game back in the late 90’s, it was an experience where I didn’t want the game to end and I grew attached to every single character in the game, even the minor characters such as Siegfried/Ziegfried, Bannon, the Opera House director, that damn Octopus Ultros lol 😆, and even Gau’s supposed mentally ill father who just straight abandoned him 😔. I love the mysteries of Shadow’s nightmares and dreams and of course all the hidden secrets throughout the game that you can discover if you explore long enough like I always did whenever playing the game. I also always look forward to start up a brand new record whenever returning to play the masterpiece of a game all over again. Now this is my opinion and I will probably never play another game in the future that would top the experience that I have had with Final Fantasy VI and the other 4 video games that are in my top 5 favorite and greatest video games of all time. Super Castlevania IV is my number 2 spot, and my 3rd is Mortal Kombat II (Arcade and all systems ports of it). Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty is my 4th. Resident Evil 1 OG/Remake is my 5th. Bloodborne is my 6th. Ocarina of Time is my 7th Mega Man X2 is my 8th Max Payne 1 is my 9th Silent Hill 1 is my 10th
Yes, yes it is overrated. Final fantasy in general is overrated. It is really frustrating experience to deal with all random encounters and item management in FF6 is confusing. Generally FF4 is better than FF6. You can escape more easily, you don't have so much choice with who will have what summons so you always know who does what. FF4 also seems to have less random encounters and story was more relatable to me. Also many skills in FF6 is just gimmicks. Swordtech is somewhat lame because you end up using 1st and sometimes 4th. Lore and Rage seems to overlap with other magic just the name is different, but isn't any stronger. This game is a mess. I also don't like characters all that much. FF4 had way better characters and I liked twin mechanic.
You know…..I absolutely love this series. That being said, EVERY GAME can be a slog. Like I love them all, but I almost have to force myself to complete them. It’s weird.
The music in this one always gets me, soon as I hear that theme tune! I am shocked u said u liked 5's better, I need to go listen to 5's now because I can't even remember the music in 5 but I can never forget it in 6!
Yay for me, the best final fantasy in my books. Even with my childhood memory full of pain where I was sat on a fole out bed and jumped as i got a decent ammount of magic points for the first time. Bed folded back up and bonked me in the head!
If you never played FF6 before I don't recommend the PS1 version while the CG cut scenes Make Terea, Celes, Lock, Edgar, Sabin, Shadow and Setzer look awesome the load time is atrocious and to tip it off they fixed some SNES bugs but acquired PS1 bugs. Play the SNES or Pixilated remastered. I know the one for G. B. A has like an extra dungeon and some other content like that, but the sound quality gets diminished and the colors are not as vibrant airship moves slow as molasses on that one.
This game was great for 1994 standards. But in 2024? Not so much. I tried to replay it lately, and I was amazed how I was able to beat it when I was 10 years old when it premiered. The plot is silly, predictable and cliché, characters are flat as my chest in 1994, mechanics for most of the characters (like bushido or paint) are pointless when you can just easily brute force most of the fights... I tried to wear nostalgia glasses, but unfortunately without any success. I just don't feel any pleasure replaying it. It's still cool as a piece of gaming and franchise history, but it simply cannot hold a candle to the multitude of modern games. If you are a fan of modern FF games - try it for education’s sake. If not - don't even bother.
I just started VI yesterday after playing through I-V pixel remasters in order and the first thing that came to my mind once I got into a battle was “man this seems slow”. Definitely took me by surprise but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. First time playing VI so I’m just excited to see if all the hype is real!
I was so happy when i found they actually removed the all of gau's rages abilities achievement, that originally appeared in original steam version in this pixel remaster 🙏

Oh. And one more thing - as a teenage girl gamer, FF X-2 was a groundbreaking experience for me. Plying as a team of female only team of badass warriors was a cathartic experience. Most of you guys won't understand this, but for women it was a huge milestone in gaming history.
I played IV, V and VI back to back a few years ago and felt like IV is peak characters and cast, V is peak gameplay and VI is trying to put all of that in one game but falls a little short of the prior to in each category. I like this review you do a good job highlighting the parts of VI that are a little less than the predecessors.
You said you're going to go through all the mainlines apart from 11 but does that mean you're doing 14? I feel you might be stuck there for a while! Great video as always, managed to finally get my FF5 plat and now I'm 8 hours into WOB in FF6.
Yeah it's the long term plan, I play a lot of FFXIV, as for trophies it's all the crafting and gathering stuff I need (This is a task in itself lol) then I'm about 77% for the 300 FATEs trophy. Doable, but like you said it's gonna be a while lol. Grats on that 5 plat!
Congrats. Also, did you get the master gambler trophy naturally or with autobattle? That’s the one trophy eluding me. I got the 3rd 7, once, and the game blipped it to a diamond!
Grass so green! I enjoyed the extreme difficulty, side missions, and bonus content in T-Edition. It’s hard to know if it’s better to continue with it or just go for the platinum when the time is right.
Nice timing. I just got it a few days ago to relive what I remembered was a long time playing FF6 when I was about 8 or 9. Playing through I realised I just about got to the Phantom Train and then must've quit due to not having access to guides. These old games usually get on my nerves with slow battle animations, too many encounters, and lots of micro managing, but this game doesn't suffer from any of that. It's impressive that if someone was looking to play a top down RPG in 2023 I would suggest a game that came out in 1994 and wouldn't worry about retro jank or aged gameplay.
Really enjoyed this series! I'm going for Platinum in all the Final Fantasy games too, so far I've got FF4, 7, and 8 Platinum Trophies. Working on FF1 now! Question: How you plan on doing FF9? That one has.....some rather difficult ones to put it lightly. XD
Awesome to hear! Ahhhh FF9 haha. Well I'll be playing through it twice , once where I'll be getting all the main trophies, included those toughies (Can't wait for the stress!) then I'll do a Ex 2 run, with boosts lol! See you in a year hahaha
Managed to get 6th plat 2 days ago. Those games are still amazing but those plats man, especially V and VI, they werent great. Glad I can now replay those games without worrying about the Bestiary and Chests
Explain to me how I didn't get the 100% chests trophy despite following a missables guide? I know damn well I grabbed every chest including one off dungeons and temporary locations. This is the last platinum I need and I'm bummed out I'm gonna have to do a second playthrough especially since I got punished for destroying a boss too fast so he didn't summon a small enemy for the bestiary. I had no issues platinuming FF1-5 in one playthrough but FF6 I miss an enemy and a chest which I have no idea where it could be.
I missed one enemy and I didn't even know how, lucky for me I had various saves across different points of the game. The enemy I missed was Bit? It spawns after hitting a part off the Air Force boss
Traversing FF6 is definitely different. Def has iconic areas, but you’re right about its exploration. Since the story is more on rails wanting to tell something very specific (albeit amazing), it makes the world feel smaller and less vast and wonderous since it’s more story focused than gameplay focused in a relative sense.
there’s no trophies for it as of right now, so I assume it wouldn’t be touched in a platinum series, but if a remaster came out, then that wouldn’t be an issue
This, but even if it doesn’t come out with trophies I eventually want to play everything Final Fantasy and more. Only cause it’s not on modern platforms doesn’t mean it’s off the table! 👍
Oddly I remembered the first half (before the World of Ruin) being longer: the buildup to it that is. I guess after going through so much of 1-5 it just felt like I got to it sooner is all. Although VI was 100%d more quickly than V (not having to master job classes helped) it doesn’t shave off the fact in terms of story and characters it’s the best out of the entire Pixel Remasters. So with the Pixel Remasters done that means I’m going off to other things right? Wrong! I suddenly have the urge to go through 7,8,9,10,12 and maybe even 15 again! XD
I really disliked 6. Basically It felt like the SNES wasn't powerful enough for the ambition the devs had. I'm sure at the time having your party members reshuffled every story beat and seeing a handful of custom sprite emotes of them waving their left arm and looking wide-eye'd was mind blowing, but the whole time I wished I could go back to 5 again where the gameplay was the star of the show.
