Is FFXIV worth BUYING IN 2020? 

regarding the level/story skip for the love of god don't buy that , the story one is made for people that are making alt characters on other data centers to play with friends and not for first time players, and the level skip is made for people that want to level alt jobs but don't have the time or will to level them normally, this game is gonna be a mind fuck if you buy either of those and you'll just waste your time cuz these 200+ hours to get through the story will teach you other stuff like how the game work for example and don't even buy the game just get it for free till you reach level 60 and you made-up your mind on getting to the end to see the rest of the story and engage in the end-game activities

still on the newest expansion and have almost over 300 hours into it
