Thank you for making this! Really helped clear things up, I've always thought math as very difficult but it's been getting easier in the recent years and I would wish to become a chemist in the future so I probably need it.

Heyy. I have maths only for now. I gave M1 and P1 for my AS. I plan to give my A levels on S1 and P3 while also studying the whole of further maths in one year for A Level. Do you think it's possible? I have Chem and Physics as well.

It is possible although it depends to what extent are you willing to sacrifice free time. I would recommend you to go for it and give it your best! It is such a cool subject. Unlike any other stuff covered in school. I have had comments from people that asked me the same thing and managed to study the whole Further Maths in less than a year. Hope that helps! @MarioFabelo
@MarioFabelo Год назад
Just taking it and studying the more difficult and advanced math will significantly benefit you at university if you take any math subjects. My first year math subjects have been so easy thanks to previously knowing many things from Further Maths. I recommend to study the content and, if you can, take the exam. But only by learning the topics you will be greatly benefited!!

The problem is I am doing my o levels/ gcses and I do not take physics, and I believe that subject is very important for further maths. So can i take it if I don't take physics very worried about that, I do take ad maths (getting A's and B's) but in maths I'm getting straight A*'s, which is why my mother is urging me to consider taking it. I think further maths is a very impressive subject and I just may be able to do it but not sure. Thanks for the informative video!!
@MarioFabelo
@MarioFabelo 11 месяцев назад
I’ve heard of some people that take Further Maths and don’t do Physics. Although it does come in handy and the Mechanics content overlaps Physics A Level, I think it is still possible if you’re willing to. Whether or not you study Physics, the Further content is going to be hard so not doing physics will only make it 5-10% more difficult in my opinion. If I could go back to when I was in Y12, I would have taken Further Maths way more seriously. It’s the hardest though it’s the most life changing and the most enriching and fulfilling to work on. I would recommend you to take it and go all in!!! There’s nothing to lose. You only fail if you haven’t tried.

Great video do you think itd be possible for me to do further maths by myself and still get a good grade if i work hard even though i got a 7 in gcse maths
@MarioFabelo
@MarioFabelo 11 месяцев назад
Hi, I think that a good grade in Further Maths (A or A*) is generally only obtained by those that have previously excelled in GCSE. Because you may even get an A/A* in GCSE Maths but then with the jump to A Level some may only manage to get a B/A and in Further that would translate to an E/D. Yo get a good grade in Further you need to excel at the previous levels (GCSE and A Level) and then push super hard in order to nail the Further subject. If you’re willing to take your Maths to the next level and to get real serious then you should definitely do it. At least give it your best before thinking it’s too much for you.

Hmm. If you think anyone properly manages Further Maths you are probably really optimistic. I think the whole point of the subject is the huge challenge but the huge drive that it gives you and how much it humbles you to study and enjoy the process of figuring “big” things out! It is also a really good thing for the next few years; it will give you a chance to see advanced contents covered in greater detail at 1st and 2nd year of university of any STEM course! I would always recommend anyone to take it but it’s true that time is not unlimited

@MarioFabelo 10 месяцев назад
Hi! Further is difficult and heavy workload but that isn’t necessarily bad. It does give you a foundation for the first two years of university level Maths required for Engineering or even Natural Sciences courses. It depends on whether you want to focus on securing really high grades in those A Levels or if you want to take the challenge. If I could I would try to go to Further classes and see how you go about. If you think that it’s not worth the extra effort you just don’t sit the exam but just covering some of the content will be very beneficial for future years! I personally took Further Maths and didn’t really prepare it well as we didn’t have a teacher for Further for most of the time of A levels so we had to improvise it and it was a bit chaotic. However, if you have teachers teaching it or you just want to take your Maths to the next level then it’s such a cool thing to attempt!! I hope that helps in some way : )

@MarioFabelo
@MarioFabelo 2 года назад
Hi Talala! For sure! Hopefully this helps you a bit on your FM decision. Do you have any idea about what you want to study in the future (university)? If so, if it is even slightly related to Maths it will come in very useful both in terms of learning maturity and knowledge. It’s okay if you don’t know what career you want to pursue. I personally still don’t know what course I’ll be studying at Uni and I’m a Y13. However, I do know that it will have something to do with Math because I find it quite challenging, interesting and fun to solve stuff I thought weird or impossible at first. Okay, the first thing is, if you initially want to do it just pick it and I think you could drop it later on if you feel like it is not worth your effort/time. You see, I almost didn’t take Additional Maths IGCSE because I thought “I’m not specially gifted so I won’t be able to do it”. And that is completely wrong (same applies to Further Maths A Level). It is way more about how dedicated and consistent you are than any mathematical talent or intelligence. Further Maths is not as difficult as it is portrayed. It is just an extension to Maths A Level. We were actually talking with my teacher about this today on FM class. The theory isn’t too difficult, you just need to put consistent work, understand all the theory and practice with past paper questions. If there’s something that makes you not want do it, it should only come from within yourself. Don’t let other people, even your loved ones, define your limits. You should try to discover them yourself without any fear of judgement (regret is worst!) and you will see that you find everything easier and everything goes better than initially expected! Hope this helps : )
