Gainesville prepares for its first major storm of the season. Hurricane Idalia is approaching and expected to be a category 3 when it hits land. Gainesville has seen plenty of major storms before but because of our central location in the state most become noticeably weaker by the time they reach us. The schools have shut down for the 29th and 30th along with banks, some local businesses and government agencies. Even Wal-Mart will be closing early Wednesday.
