The number one reason most businesses fail is lack of education. If affordable, an MBA can save you a fortune in losses.

I disagree 100%. When all else equals MBA gives you an edge. Before I got my MBA my coworkers around me we all had Engineering degrees then when I was the only one I got my MBA I became their bosses. True story

Also, it matters where you apply for your MBA. You do not need to go into tons of debt to have an MBA. It all depends on the school, and there are affordable MBA's out there.

Hi, I noticed that your comment is 2 years old, and I hope that by now you have successfully completed your MBA. I am currently working as a consultant with Deloitte, primarily focusing on the technical side. I am considering pursuing an EMBA to enhance my career prospects and improve my soft and presentation skills. Do you think it would be a good decision for me?

It’s tough. Ken’s point is it’s still largely on you to move up is true, but having credentials and education isn’t completely disregarded. Also the good and reputable certifications are always as simple as completing an online course, and some require OJE before being issued.

When Ken said “If it’s between you and a colleague, their not gonna chose you because of your MBA..” That’s just not true. That’s one of the biggest reasons to get an MBA is to move up the ladder. In reality having that MBA would set him apart from that colleague thus not even making them equal anymore.

Debating getting an MBA. I ask myself "Is it worth it in the long run" all the time. I make 160-190k a year with a high school diploma but I also work 100 hours a week doing an unrewarding job. I've thought if I can just keep this up for 7 years and keep investing it all I'll be a millionaire by 2030. However I get no fulfillment spending 100 hours a week in a prison. My passion is Finance, economics and business. I acknowledge If I went into business It would likely take some years to get back up to the same income I'm already making at my current job. (On the bright side the government would pay for my MBA)

It was Ken who said an MBA is not the best way, not the caller. Ken took all of two minutes to give this young man life advice knowing almost nothing about him. Make no mistake about it. The MBA is the great equalizer in a world of haves and have nots. If you have the same experience but no MBA and the other person has an MBA, unless its driving an ice cream truck or some job that requires no real business knowledge, the MBA will get that job over you 99 times out of a hundred. When real, high level business knowledge is part of the positional requirements, you are at a great handicap without an MBA. People who give this advice almost always do not have an MBA or understand anything about an actual MBA curriculum and what it entails. It is the knowledge that drives the business world. You can't equate a truly great MBA marketing class under the tutelage of a first rate professor to an online marketing class. There is no comparison between the two.

I don't buy what you are saying. A MBA degree teaches you how to be a leader, how to be an effective critical thinker, how to think outside the box, how to work as with a team and so much more. It is totally worth it and also specially if you want to become a boss, manager, supervisor, or any high position in a company having that MBA will get you there but a 4 years bachelors will not. Don't be scared of debt. We are all in debt.

Im late to the party, but i would like to add my two cents to this. The value of an MBA depends on individual circumstances rather than a uniform circumstance. There are a multitude of reasons as to why people go and get an MBA. However, to determine whether it's an appropriate decision is based on the individual's goals. It does make a difference in terms of opportunities if a person received their mba from a top program. The value of an MBA is very high if the person goes to the most elite schools in the country. Second, having an MBA can definitely bump up your earning potential provided that you attend a reputable business school.

And most MBA program aren’t cheap which put more burden on your student loan some even reach six figure. And if you really think employer going to pay you six figure salary with an MBA degree with no experience? Even lots of billionaire doesn’t have one nor some even have a college degree.The professor is saying you need an MBA to be promoted because you paid the school money for the program but probably doesn’t know how to apply in the corporate setting.

This question i wanna ask this person. Giving the advice. Will you hire a person off the street with no college degree. Or will you hire someone off the street with a MBA. If your answer is you will take the guy with the MBA. Then why are you telling him its not a good idea. It pains my heart why people always try to down play education and college degree. Yes you can make a living without it. But guess what, your a slave to that company because you cant really leave or do much

What jobs do you look for after an MBA?
@ShacklefordR
@ShacklefordR 3 месяца назад
man, that's a loaded question! I think there's couple of different factors to consider. So anecdotally, I went to a run of the mill state school where my alma mater's business school had lots of 20 somethings complete their MBAs because it was a part of 3+2 program (students who were enrolled in undergrad for business/ finance walking away with BA + MBA after 5 years). In an ideal scenario, the pathway is taking on couple internships during undergrad years (seen some going to Big5 accounting or brand name consulting, or Fortune 100 / tech) and then doing an MBA summer internship, then transitioning into a full time position right out of school (may be going in as 1-2 level higher than off the street entry level, but below a mid-career level). Another path is folks taking a break in their career (this may be a way to avoid "career gaps" in case of layoffs, etc) or an Executive MBA (accelerated part time - weekends, hybrid learning) for mid-career folks. This can be a huge value add if you're an engineer / technical looking to transition into a leadership role, or mid-career non-tech Fortune 500 specialist looking to add in additional schooling. My two cent is that an MBA is a cherry on the top of a cake that is your professional experience. It was never meant to replace the cake itself, it's just a complementary.

Unless it's from a top-tier school, an MBA isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Mine was the biggest waste of time, energy, and money in my lifetime bar none. And it was a dual major program in business analytics and operations management. Sounds good, but no employer finds it attractive. Certs even seem to yield a higher ROI.
